nothing at all
Obviously you have something against freerunning, but if you didn't what would you have called it?
In other words, is there something it could have been called that you WOULDN'T complain about, or did you just come in here to troll?
alright ive decided parkour is cooler but it sounds nerd and shit to say like i know
this one kid he's a huge nerd and likes anime he and his hxc stoner friends like to
go out and do parkour and call people and tell them they're doing parkour or some
shit it's really fucking gay
uhm well parkour is cool alright. needs new name though that isnt so foreign
Who gives a fuck if you jump down 5 flights of stairs or if you do a backflip while jumping off them. It doesn't fucking make a difference aside from the fact that one is more shiny.
It's like OSX and windows.
Same shit, one's flashy, the other dull.
Parkour > Free running.
I've got all the vaults pretty damn smooth (I'm best at speed vaults because I'm tall and can do them over a lot of higher obstacles) but I'm too nervous to use kongs in practice at the moment.

nope
I like paid running better.
I thought that this stupid internet freerunner fad had ended when people got bored of Mirror's Edge.
I have no especial disrespect for the activity itself, but christ do some people ever fanboy it up.
Thank your for wording my thoughts exactly
i hate people who do this, the people that do it in my town trespass in buildings and private spaces, they disturb the peace and are overall douchebags.
Just seems like a fad sport, on of those 'look how cool I am' sports that people get into to be popular. I prefer Sports with a point to them...
well, as a dedicated Parkour practitioner of 4 years, I can tell you anyone who rates themselves "pretty good", is usually, pretty shit.
that's parkour though, not free running.
Just seems like a fad sport, on of those 'look how cool I am' sports that people get into to be popular. I prefer Sports with a point to them...
I can climb over a 10ft wall in seconds and vault over anything lower than 5ft without even having to slow down. If anything has a point to it, parkour does. I have made myself more useful. Where you may kick a ball around and do some sport specific shit in whatever, football, tennis, skateboarding, I will be able to get from A to B quickly and efficiently without fear of injury because of my practice.
Now really, do you think Parkour has no point?
If I trip on the street, I can simply land on my hands and go straight into a roll, avoiding injury.
If someone pulls a knife on me, I have a higher chance of escape.
If a fire starts, I have a good chance of survival.
If a zombie apocalypse happens, I'll be kicking ass while you will get ripped to shreds taking 30 seconds to climb over a 6ft fence.
yeah man i do free running :P bit late post but still
I hate people who go
"hurdur lets do fre run pakkour"
they run up to a wall and kick it like a child
then they see somebody doing conditioning and practicing seriously and they go "hurdur u amaturr"
[editline]30th December 2010[/editline]
I've been conditioning for around a month now. I can monkey vault my wall and scale my garage without ladders and shit. I haven't had a chance to practice anywhere else because of snow and ice
for parkour I mean
in my opinion free running is either:
1. little children sat there screaming "LET'S PLAY NINJAS"
2. parkour with unnecessary shitty flips added in
Out there somewhere, a free-runner is dorkishly humming the Mirror's Edge theme to himself.

no thats inspector gadget get it right
Fuck why is everyone so against free running?
I thought people were all for it.
Fuck why is everyone so against free running?

little kids and breakdancers ruined it
I prefer parkour because you don't look like a queer street dancer when you do it
We get one of these threads every few months, gets fpers all hyped up on it like 'shit imma climb some junk right now' then they realise how much effort it takes and go back inside

telling it like it is
I remember a few years ago I tried it because of an fp thread and just thought "i'm not tall enough"
my height raised though and after seeing videos of people doing it I realized I could train it up as a sport
so that's what I've been doing since late september
if i had a place to practice parkour i wouldnt be here when theres daylight
i still would be here everyday

Nice, hope you keep motivated at it.

I have
at the moment I'm excercising ERRY DAY (2 sets of push ups, 2 sets of squats, 2 sets of lunges, 2 sets of forearm curls and bicep curls and 1 plank) because I can't practice outside
I can eat a shitload of meat as well because I'm skinny
I'm a free runner. Its fun as hell.

Free Running is the art of Parkour.
you are fucking wrong
free running and parkour ARE TWO SEPERATE THINGS RUN IT THROUGH YOUR SKULL
[editline]30th December 2010[/editline]
on a less angry note to people who are training like me:
record yourself doing moves that you can't seem to get the hang of because then you can see what you're doing wrong
I was practicing kongs but I kept on hitting my feet against my object
turned out my legs tucked up but then fanned out to one side after going through my arms
[editline]30th December 2010[/editline]
and because of that mistake I got a really fucking irritating cut-graze-skin-peely thing on my shoulder

yes well done, freerunning is adapting your own style with flips n stuff... its not the same as parkour, parkour is using your environment from point a to b as fast and safest you can....freerunning is just adapting to your environment n stuff, i did parkour only until i started to trick, then realised that its better doing free running :)
A couple friends of mine used to do freerunning, it was fucking awesome to watch them do cool shit in the air
not something for me though
i drive everywhere because im normal
parkour is using your environment from point a to b as fast and safest you can.
No it isn't, parkour is about moving your body in a fluid way and staying in motion, of course getting from a to b in a fast way is part of that but it's not what parkour is about.
I tried it for a little while, the I ended up in hospital for a few months. Never again.
I tried it for a little while, the I ended up in hospital for a few months. Never again.
Don't blame free running, you probably made a stupid mistake
I always thought parkour was getting from Point A to Point B in the most creative way possible. But apparently that's free-running and parkour is getting from Point A to Point B in the fastest way possible.
I'm glad that's cleared up.
Also, does that make traveling by plane a form of parkour?
Since it's getting from Point A to Point B in the fastest and safest way possible.
Right, Tracuer/Free-runner of 4-5 years here, the first thing I'm gonna say is take "I'm fairly good at it myself" out of your OP
Try not to rate yourself, it makes you look like a douche, say something like "I've been doing it for so long and people say I'm really good"
