Is that a fucking Starcraft health bar I see at the bottom?
damn right, Starcraft applies to every war movie. No matter what.
Yes you bastards, we had a war with the North, that's why it's called the forgotten war, no one knows it >:|).
You know what, I wrote a 7 page paper on the Korean War, so this is a ridiculous statement.

This is a Korean version of Saving Private Ryan or any famous War films. This film is based on the forgotten war(Yes you bastards, we had a war with the North, that's why it's called the forgotten war, no one knows it >:|). It's about two brothers forcefully enlisted/conscripted into the South Korean Army to fight against the communist North. The older brother enlists and goes into dangerous missions to earn the Medal of Honor to have his youngest fragile brother who has a heart condition go back home. But complications and tragic-ness arises.
I saw this film. It was pretty good but I had four big problems with it. First two being the biggest ones. 1: It was overly dramatic, now when it started off, the dramatic scenes were perfectly justified and really helped to create an amazing atmosphere. But after the 4th time it started getting very worn out, after the 6th we groaned and by the 8th, as sadistic as it sounds we started laughing. (we being me and my friends) 2: They played that one song to many times. Each time the long stretched out drama scene started so did that song. Near the end we started mimicking it and groaning. 3: The English dubs. Holy shit. Talk about sounding exactly the same and ultra corny. 4: LOOOOooooooonnng film is loooooong. Those aside the action, acting and overall directing of it was great.

I much prefer North Korean movies to be honest.
like what?
like the part where they were saying stuff but i had absolutely no idea what
I've watched sooo many Korean Dramas I thought I was the only one here that did... I've pretty much seen cancer in every thinkable locations by now haha! I haven't seen too many K-movies though but the ones I have seen were either horror or romance. Not too many action films though, just a few. Even though I'm fluent and can read Chinese, I find myself watching K-dramas and J-dramas more often nowadays since they have English subs.
The first time I saw Oldboy I was not impressed. Not that it was bad, I just felt "meh" about it. I've seen it several times since then. Now I really like it. I think it's a movie you shouldn't go into thinking "everyone says this movie is so awesome I can't wait to have my mind blown...". That's my mindset when I first saw it. I'd recommend watching it with a 'this sounds like it could be interesting' attitude. My Sassy Girl is Korean right? I liked that one. It's the kind of chick flick I can tolerate. The girl is hot and it's funny enough to pass the time.
1: overly dramatic? it's a story about 2 brothers thrown into the korean war, what do you expect.
They could have done it without shoving it down our throats. There are other ways of getting the stress and tension across without dragging the scenes out so damn long. As I said, after the 4th time it gets worn out and unnecessary.
2: it's supposed to be a sad song, and i'm pretty sure they only used that song 2-3 times.
Try more than 5 times. Let's see now with the scenes I can remember off the top of my head, Beginning scene with the old man [sp]looking at the shoes his dead brother made for him[/sp], them getting drafted, [sp]Sister in Law dying an almost comically stretched out death[/sp], Older brother thinking his younger bro is dead, [sp]Older brother getting killed[/sp], younger brother reminiscing how things were before the war and finally credits. That's SEVEN times and probably more. As I said, there are some scenes where it is PERFECT and really tugs on the heart strings but then there are others where it's just annoying, because I heard that same song like from another scene 20 minutes earlier.
3: don't watch it with dubs, you never watch anything with dubs.
Heh, that's true. As I said the first two were my biggest complaints.
4: it's 2 hours, it's not that long.
The stretched out drama llama scenes made it feel like three hours., I'm really sorry but that's how it felt to me.
Silmido where can I see it it sounds bad ass
One of my favorite Korean dramas is Sarinui Chueok (Memories of Murder) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memories_of_Murder It's based on a real series of murders during the 1980's, which still remains unsolved. The Wikipedia plot pretty much gives away the ending though.
