Everyone here is entitled to an opinion, sure there are people who would rather have the children put down but don't forget everybody here has a different mindset to one another. Arguing about it would just make you as stupid as those controversial abortion activists, lets just settle it by saying this is uncomfortable to watch okay?
I'm all for putting them down if they are in constant pain, otherwise I really dont know what side to pick in this argument, mainly because alot of other things factor in.
When I was a toddler, I was diagnosed with severe autism with little chance of improvement. So did my parents throw me under a bus? Fuck no! They raised the shit out of me. And look at me now. I'm almost a normal functioning individual, going to college, working part-time, living the American dream. I'm not saying that those kids will recover. My point is that my parents didn't give a crap that I was probably going to be a goldfish for the rest of my life; I was their son.
Are you trying to liken Microcephaly to autism? You're a fucking idiot. These children are missing parts of their brain entirely and have severe brain damage. Keeping a baby with microcephaly is fucking cruel.
I'm sure you'll find it pretty easy to kill your own kid.
Those are not kids. They are husks, with the bare minimum required for their bodies to continue to function with the aid of others. There is nothing there. There are not people inside those bodies. Killing them is akin to euthanizing a dying animal.
They're deformed, probably can't walk, unable to communicate, and will most likely be unable to lead normal lives. That's no way for someone to live.
I say what I am about to say well aware about the danger in dehumanizing a person, or to denigrate them as less than a full person given histories of violence which befall people when this process occours. That being said, in this instance where such a denigration may prevent a life (whatever its value) from being lost, maybe desperate times call for desperate measures. Maybe they won't live ordinary "human" lives, but if we are willing to think of them as another type of human being - perhaps not "fully human"or even human at all, why come to the conclusion that they should die? They don't seem to be in constant pain or misery, why kill them? Let them experience whatever it is they are experiencing if it isn't negative.

I felt like i just walked into 4chan /b/, I feel sick.

It is possibly unethical to keep these children alive just as it is unethical to keep what commonly would be refered to as someone in a life long "vegetative" state. To say whether or not they should be euthanized is not my place as I am not a licensed doctor who specialises in this field, but forcing them to live in what appears to potentially be a state of anguish is wrong if it is so. We see a problem arise though in their inability to communicate pain or consent, much less communicate in any form. It's a very complex ethics debate and I am not surprised that people feel so charged over it. Those who dehumanise these children sicken me, they are not sick animals to be put down. The debate of euthanasia is one more complex morally than that. Is it morally just to willing force someone who has the great potential to be in extreme pain and/or suffering yet is unable to confirm this state to live or die? To dehumanise them is to say we do not even need this debate as there is no ethical issue with killing what you would refer yo as "husks", another way to say "sub-humans" really. To pretend to hold the ethical high ground while dehumanising the subject is ignorance and hypocrisy at best.
I'd rather my kid die than he be born as a blank goldfish doing nothing but eating and shitting, unable for rational thought or even small discussions.
Sadly I had a cousin with this condition and most don't even get to physically eat, they have a tube attached to their stomach and "Food" is injected into the tube.

From their blog;
Five and ten years ago, our family was forever changed. We were blessed with two precious daughters, Claire & Lola, both of whom happen to have primary microcephaly. In our daughters' cases, the condition is autosomal recessive, meaning the chance of recurrence is 25%, or 1 in 4. We submitted DNA almost ten years ago to try to isolate the gene(s) responsible for our daughters' diagnoses. Suffice it to say, we are STILL waiting for results (and recently sent more DNA to the UK for further testing focusing specifically on the microcephaly + dwarfism link). To complicate things further, our girls have additional diagnoses such as dwarfism, epilepsy, spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, reflux, and more. I don't often mention or focus on these characteristics because to me, they are just tiny pieces of who our girls are, and they *certainly* do not define them. They are SO. MUCH. MORE.
http://www.thehartleyhooligans.com/2011/09/yellow.html [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] I can only admire their will to raise them.

came here to laugh, left feeling bad
I think it's microcephaly; were it Anencephaly, they wouldn't have survived for that long. They're basically a pocket pussy that barely has enough function to survive. [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] However - Parents choice, it's not like they will even notice how incredibly disabled they are or if they even are aware that they even exist.
It's referred to as Anencephaly, essentially they are born with the majority of their brain/skull/scalp absent just got that from wikipedia though so i could be incorrect a tiny bit here :(
How do people seriously fail to distinguish between microcephaly and anencephaly lmfao let alone ignore the fact that these kids are like 10 years and the oldest anencephaly case died around like 1 year of age
As long as these kids aren't in constant pain or something then I don't really see the problem here
Are the children even conscious?
No sane parent would put their kid down, period.
If your child was in a vegetative state, where they consciously are no long there, but could live functionally for 10 years, what would you do? [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] I'd like to also sort of point this out, from their blog.
I am a real-life, damn near Snow F’ing White (super pale AND gifted at dwarf wrangling) from Kansas who blogs regularly about my kids’ antics, my husband’s sketchy facial hair, and shitting myself.
human plants.
As long as these kids aren't in constant pain or something then I don't really see the problem here
See here is the problem though. How do we know they're not in constant pain? They can't properly communicate it, much less consent to anything at all. Is it morally just to assume that since they cannot properly communicate it, that their condition is likely to be sheer torment on the chance that they truly are in such a state?

The first video. Is it even alive?
So if you read their blog it says the pregnancy and birth were normal, so they had no warning that this would happen. Also, the doctor warned she may only live a year or so. What do you want them to do, euthanize her? They probably wanted to give her a comfortable life until she died... which obviously hasn't happened yet.
She was diagnosed at 3 1/2 months of age with MSG -- Microcephaly with Simplified Gyral patterns -- by Dr. William Dobyns (then at University of Chicago), a leading expert on MSG and other similar conditions. This genetic condition is believed to be autosomal recessive, thus having a recurrence rate of 25%. ... We were heartbroken initially, as we were told that our daughter might not live to be 1 year old. We still vowed to make our her life (and our lives) the best we could and enjoy every moment we'd have with her.
The second birth had a 75% chance of being normal. [editline]24th March 2015[/editline]
The first video. Is it even alive?
Microcephaly itself is just a smaller radius of the head/brain, often resulting in mental retardation of varying intensity. They can be fairly on par with others, but just have a smaller head. Or they can be a severe case like these girls. However, as the blog states the girls also have other ailments such as cerebral palsy and cortical visual impairment -among others- which also contribute to their appearance. (which is probably more to do with the cerebral palsy, really) So the girls are essentially blind, mentally handicapped, and physically impaired. This is Microcephaly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlitzie
Oh I know the girls are real. I meant the first mario one. Is it a doll or no. I cannot tell. I hesitated to ask for fear of looking dumb, but in the you tube comments. there were about 20 other people wondering the same thing.
