• Corporal Punishment?

i used to get the odd slipper whack if i was a little shit when i was younger. it definitely sent a strong message and taught me not to do it again and i'm grateful for that. so yes i think corporal punishment should be allowed, although sometimes parents go over the top.
I probably wouldn't hit my own kids, but I'm saying that it's not always a horrible, horrible thing. It wasn't in my upbringing.
Beating your kid multiple times with this because they asked for a dollar aint horrible! :downs:
How is spanking a naughty child disgusting? And how does it make it so you don't deserve kids?
Its different in some cultures. Personally, I wouldn't beat my kids. I don't believe in violence, and I find it unnecessary and crude for dealing with this kind of problems.
Most of the time I got beat I deserved it.
1:15am man, I don't read that much now.
It's 1:15am here too bro
You guys need to distinguish between punishment and abuse.
My parents hit me when I did wrong. They only used their hands, never some other instrument. I feel that if a parent uses their hand, and doesn't go beyond one or two smacks, there's nothing wrong. But if they use some kind of tool to injure, like a belt or worse, or hit more than a couple of times where the kid might bruise, that is not alright.
Doing anything like that to your kid is fucking disgusting and anyone who does it is a sick fuck who shouldn't have kids. If your only way of telling your child not to do something again is to physically hurt them, then just dont have had a child in the first place.
Also didn't read OP.
Oh yeah eh, of course if you got it yourself you are most likely inclined to think it's okay, as it was defined as normality to you, then you are also very likely to pass the suffering on to your own children, this is why it is enforcedly illegal to beat children in many countries, the parent's are simply completely incapable of seeing the wrong in it without legal "encouragement". Please realize and distance yourself from this phenomenon, see through the veil of your own perception before taking a stance.
You guys need to distinguish between punishment and abuse.
I asked for a dollar and was made to take my shirt/pants off so my parents could whip the everlasting fuck out of me with a horse whip. How is that in any way justifiable as punishment? You are an idiot.
How is spanking a naughty child disgusting? The ones that look up to you for an example, and to look after them and you hit them because you can't find any other way of telling them they do something wrong.
If you have to use violence to raise your kid you're a terrible parent. Why is it okay to hit people as long as they're children?
I don't really have a problem with it if the kid deserves it and it doesn't get out of hand. I'll try to not do it if I ever get a kid though.

Problem is: It normally turn people violent, and pherhaps even cause spousal abuse. It's not the penalty itself, it's the founding on a pscyhological profile.

I simply said that punishment and abuse is different.
How is spanking a naughty child disgusting? And how does it make it so you don't deserve kids?
Maybe because you're hitting a child? That's pretty fucked up.
Facepunch seems split on the issue!
How is spanking a naughty child disgusting? And how does it make it so you don't deserve kids?
Hit them once a month if they did something bad, ok, hit them twice, maybe, but everything more is just child abuse.
Problem is: It normally turn people violent, and pherhaps even cause spousal abuse. Half the world is not violent.
I thought this was about some crazed ex-Marine that punishes people :v:
Yeah so you see, parents stopped beating their kids and now they've become the way they are today.
And only easy slaps if at all.
because you're harming your own offspring ? why do I have to explain that to you ? When they realy do need a spanking it does teach them as long as you don't go overboard with it.
I'm quite sure there's more parents out there who use corporal punishment more than they don't. Half the world is not violent.
Except most of the world is pretty violent. And in fact, the countries in which it is more common are usually the more violent (e.g. middle east)
Maybe because you're hitting a child? That's pretty fucked up.
It's not because you're some serial child beater its a disciplinary action.
Facepunch seems split on the issue!
A huge portion of FP are still minors. So I'm guessing a good portion of the "no" votes are angsty kids who dislike being punished by their parents regardless if they are right or wrong.
