I'm quite sure there's more parents out there who use corporal punishment more than they don't. Half the world is not violent.
If they hit their kids they're violent.
Have you ever raised a child? When they realy do need a spanking it does teach them as long as you don't go overboard with it.
The only thing they learn is to do as they are told, which is completely fucking useless outside of the middle ages. And the military. In the modern world you don't want to teach them to do as they are told, you want to teach them to think critically and take a moral stance of their own.
I'm quite sure there's more parents out there who use corporal punishment more than they don't. Half the world is not violent.
Well, I got exposed to it, but not very often, but it caused me to be alot more violent during my younger days, since "It's okay since mom did it." Before you judge me, I was below the age of ten at the time.
Have you ever raised a child? When they realy do need a spanking it does teach them as long as you don't go overboard with it.
jeling at them in a proper way solves the same purpose because they become scared anyway. Also, 1...2...(3) works pretty good too.
Belt, no - what the fuck? Smacks, yes. When I played up I would get a slap on the back of my thigh. Fine by me, so many people I saw back at school are doing really shit now, some on drugs, others getting drunk at least 3 times a week. I've ended up pretty good IMO. People saying "you're doing it wrong if you need to smack them" are just stupid in my opinion. It's only in more recent years that chavs have existed, and IMO that's because kids can be a little smartass and never have to put up with anything than a stern talking to. There are so many little shits thanks to the fall of smacks.
As a child if I was really bad I'd simply get a small slap on the ass. I don't see anything wrong with that and when people get horrified by even the idea of a simple punishment like that it confuses me. I am 22 and my parents raised me into a reasonable human being so I hold no resentment. My mum only had to do it about 3 times from what I remember and the rest of the times it wasn't bad enough and instead I just got sent to my room etc. As I got older I would just get yelled at instead (teen years) instead of getting a smack. A simple smacked backside is not "beating up your child" but the law now says it is, so parents just have to use other methods which can sometimes be harder for them to follow (hell just watch those supernanny shows.) At least I am pretty sure spanking here is now illegal and was quite a while ago. I haven't been awake long and not fully woken up.
Except most of the world is pretty violent. And in fact, the countries in which it is more common are usually the more violent (e.g. middle east)
[citation needed]
A huge portion of FP are still minors. So I'm guessing a good portion of the "no" votes are angsty kids who dislike being punished by their parents regardless if they are right or wrong.
A huge portion of FP got beaten by their parents. So I'm guessing a good portion of the "yes" votes are kids trying to justify their violent parents. I voted no and I've never been hit.
My mom used to flick me in the side of my head when I was overly witty. That is the extent of "violence" in my childhood. I'm not a fan of corporal punishment, I think its just unneeded. You can do a better punishment with psychological discipline, or taking away privileges. No computer for a week sucks bro.
Maybe corporal punishment, even if done in moderation, can go either way, depending on the kid's predisposition. They can choose to learn from it, or resent it and take it out on others. Vinze, were your parents very forceful? Did they overdo it?
This thread is not going to end well. Just watch.
Except most of the world is pretty violent. And in fact, the countries in which it is more common are usually the more violent (e.g. middle east)
Ever BEEN to a Middle Eastern country? I lived in the Middle East for the first 13 years of my life. The USA is a much, much, much more violent place, I promise you that. It depends on the country. Some middle-eastern nations are very civilized, others have been screwed up by the USA or Russia.
I prefer corporeal punishment.
Well, I got exposed to it, but not very often, but it caused me to be alot more violent during my younger days, since "It's okay since mom did it." Before you judge me, I was below the age of ten at the time.
Being violent when a child is not only unsurprising, it's half expected. I've yet to meet a child who didn't have a violent streak. What I mean is blaming adult violence on parents corporal punishment. And I mean ACTUAL corporal punishment. Not parents beating the fuck out of their child because they feel like it.
Can anyone please explain to me why it's okay to use corporal punishment on kids but not adults?
Can anyone please explain to me why it's okay to use corporal punishment on kids but not adults?
It isnt.
Can anyone please explain to me why it's okay to use corporal punishment on kids but not adults?
Because adults are mature enough to be reasoned with. For the most part. Younger kids need negative reinforcement to deter them from certain behaviors. Pavlov. Also, make sure you understand the difference between punishment and abuse.
Can anyone please explain to me why it's okay to use corporal punishment on kids but not adults?
Adults should know better. Children can not always logically reason to understand a non corporal punishment. Not saying they ALWAYS don't understand. Edit: Damn ninjas :argh:

Word on the street the conflicts down there today, are the same conflicts that has been going on from since before the holy texts were written.

Not always, but is it really worth the risk? I mean, a six year old can still be reduced to tears if someone just stares them down.
I don't know, millenia spanning war without end sounds pretty fucking violent to me.
Actually, it all started with Israel and the Cold War. It was actually rather peaceful before that. The USA and Russia ruined everything. Besides, the USA has been involved in almost every war that was ever fought over the last century.
Can anyone please explain to me why it's okay to use corporal punishment on kids but not adults?
How would you use corporal punishment on an adult :S Any adult who's not a complete pussy would be absolutely fine with a slap on the ass or the back of the thigh...
ITT: FP thinks corporal punishment ALWAYS equals abuse.
Because adults are mature enough to be reasoned with. For the most part. Younger kids need negative reinforcement to deter them from certain behaviors. Pavlov. Also, make sure you understand the difference between punishment and abuse.
And this.

I'm more pacifist than anything else. So I'm proof that it could at least occasionally work out alright.

Depends on what you say is beat. Some people seem to think getting spank and stuff is beating it's not it's spanking. Voted yes.
I feel sad for anyone who got beat, I haven't and I find it really sad :frown: But why do you not rival against it, would you seriously smack the fuck out of a 5 year old child because all he/she did was ask for a fucking ice-cream at the shops?
What, no? Why would someone smack a kid for asking for ice cream? Why would you even tell a kid off for asking for ice cream... What's wrong with "No"? Smacks are for when kids decide to be a smartass or have a tantrum. There is something extremely damaged in the logic center of your brain.
