What is certain about fascism is that it is a form of government where one elected official holds absolute power. This high school essay here isn't so much making an argument that we're fascist as it is just saying "Hey, that thing we're doing vaguely resembles one of the things Nazi's did!"
The US is not becoming a fascist state and won't become one because her people won't allow it.
However you could say that the US is controlled by many multi-national corporations with tons of capital and money to spend. They have the power to influence the US and the media through spending power. The problem is not the US becoming fascist but rather the power the super wealthy have over the country.
For example the World Trade Organization, IMF, World Bank, and religious groups (the church) have self appointed leaders and have significant influence on our governments. We did not elect these people yet they influence our government based on the capital they own. That is the true problem today. How can it truly be a democracy if people we did not elect have power in our government.
I'm Canadian btw
Wait... religion doesn't have leaders. I mean, I guess that have this invisible leader they all claim to exist but they don't really have a head piece to their tree.
You could have saved yourself the thousand words and accomplished the same thing by saying Republicans, Republicans, Republicans
(disclaimer: This isn't a message of support for democrats nor anything related to conservatives versus liberals. most of what he listed is supported by republicans: FISA, PATRIOT, denial of separation of church and state, wealthy tax breaks, killing the health care bill, worker's rights, invading other countries, and so on. my point is that it's more of a class war than left/right)
Fill out the stereotypical democrat. Like a boss.
Rebuttals for me anyone??

I don't think that fascism needs just one elected official nor does having an official with absolute power mean fascism specifically. The terms totaliterian and dictatorship already incompass those concepts. What's so special about fascism that makes the term not redundant?

Politics is full of redundancies, get used to it.

The pope and the church beliefs as one.

Religions often have an hierarchy; people know who they have to defer to and the people at the top know that they're on top.

We aren't becoming a fascist state, but the government is indeed muddled up in a lot of red tape that's doing nothing but harming everyone involved. I'd buy the arguement that we're leaning towards becoming a Corporatocracy, but a fascist state? no.
Being a true patriot can make you ignorant.
Being a true patriot is accepting all the faults of your country, remembering them and then looking at the good things. I'm a patriot (I'm from Finland) and I know that we did some terrible shit during our Civil War, I accept that, but I am very proud of all the other things my country and my people have done. I love my country, but it doesn't necessarily mean I love my government nor does it mean that I simply forget about the bad times. True patriots aren't ignorant, they know their country and they know the good things and the bad things.
See: U.S. policies during the Cold War.
Sign, I kind of wish I never grew up.
I wasn't able to comprehend nor could I realize how fucked up this country is, and I'm not just talking about this thread, I'm talking in general. The US is a terrible place to live, career wise.
Lack of complete freedom in every regard = FASCISM!
Lack of complete freedom in every regard = FASCISM!
Freedom? Complete freedom?
I can't go outside and take a shit in public, it seems that "complete freedom" regarding this matter is absent.
Shit, complete freedom does not exist in the UK in every regard.
I live in a fascist country.
OP, that sounds like something Hitler might say.
I disagree with Rampant Sexism in modern America. If you've seen commercials recently, you might have realized that the mom/wife is smart, humorous, and cunning while the dad is fat, lazy, and slow. This hurts my feelings.
All I see is that kids in my generation (let's say roughly 16-24 years old) are politically oblivious. Only the slightest little sliver have a clue what is going on, let alone vote or make decisions for themselves.
Welcome to the New World Order.

That's still sexism.

Sadly I don't think any sort of revolution is going to come in America.
Man whats with all these politics and shit lately? Is this just some last effort to fart out depressed people before the happiness of summer and the lovable threads about peeing all over the walls in your room and shit
Sadly I don't think any sort of revolution is going to come in America.
All revolutions are engineered, and all end up with the same despot as before.
I expected this was going to be some angsty anti-America rant drafted up by a thirteen year old. I was pleasantly surprised. I'd realized and noted all of these things as being awfully bold for the US government and worried about where we're going but I didn't know the potential was this great.

DOWN WITH THE MAN, BRO

I think if you looked into any state you'd find degrees of all of these things. That being said, we should obviously do everything we can do stop them.

While I agree with the sentiment that revolution is certainly not a one step process into perfect government, and it's easy to fall back into despotism, sometimes breaking down some institutions is imperative to achieving any sort of democracy. While the french revolution was a bit of a joke, I still played a huge part in their political moral progress.
Brb, learning Spanish and going to Mexico.
Whoever thinks the japan situation is 'payback for pearl harbor' needs a punch in the mouth.
It's not like we nuked them twice or anything.
