I saw the movie for the first time after having the graphic novel thrice. I hated it. They got the basic plot and some of the themes from the novel right, but then they said "LET'S MAKE THIS AS VIOLENT AS POSSIBLE!" and made every scene an incredibly bloody slo-mo action segment. I can count the number of fights that occurred in the novel on one hand, and, arguably, one finger. [editline]05:36PM[/editline] Also, I hated the choice of actors. Ozymandias had a lisp or something, and was way too young-looking. Dr. Manhattan's voice was completely unfitting of his character... it sounded fine before he was turned into Dr. Manhattan, but his voice should be a little less... "human" when he's basically a mass of energy. [editline]05:36PM[/editline] And the Old Silk Spectre was completely wrong too. [editline]05:36PM[/editline] :colbert:
Only actually watched it once. I'll have to get hold of the Director's or Ultimate cut.
I have the director's cut. Love it.
lolol 2 seconds of pemis lmao wtf was the plot abt? btw im so not sexually confused or anythin guise
Good movie, but a bit too generic in everything, really. It's clearly a hollywood movie. The characters are so typical and they don't expand them at all. Everyone just are who they are supposed to be and stays there for 3 hours, no development or uniqueness in any of them at all. You do "unlock" their pasts, which really is all the movie really is about, but there is nothing unique about their pasts. But it is based on a comic after all, BUT STILL... The plot was... I don't know what to call it. Uninteresting I guess. Didn't really matter though as it was so weak that it's not really the plot you care about when watching the movie. And it failed at music. "Hurr, this is a popular song, let's use it". I mean, what the fuck was up with the 99 Red Ballons song when those two were meeting eachother at the cafè? It made a big suspense, something is going to happen. All that happens is that you see the science guy walk to the cafè, enter it and sit down at a table, then the song fades out.
true, though it didn't really help when the film makers decided to make the penis BIGGER than it was in the comics. in the comics, it was an average size. in the movie, it was like a frikkin' python. it's like they WANTED you to notice the fact that he had a penis.
They showed his penis? I didn't notice. Seriously, I didn't. I guess that tells a lot about you.
I think the problem was with Snyder trying to add his own flavor to it, which isn't wrong, but it just didn't seem to go with the overall theme. Like slowmo at inappropriate times. But it's the first Alan Moore comic that wasn't completely changed while it was being translated to the silver screens.
I thought the movie was good, but obviously nowhere near the graphic novel. I felt a bit cheated where they decided to stray from some of the lines and imagery I really liked about the novel. I doubt I would've been able to follow it had I not read the novel. Oh, and I disliked how they simplified the whole moral message down to the comedian's philosophy. I guess it is pretty difficult to actually explain all of the different perspectives presented. And can anyone who has read the novel tell me [sp]why they changed Rorschach's method of killing the girl chopping up guy? It was wonderfully subtle before. Perhaps it was too similar to the saw movie (despite obviously having been thought of several years prior).[/sp]
Two problems-(the big one)Tha ending, and(you saw it coming.)The big blue bitch buster Manhattan swings around for half the movie. I don't hate penis, its a natural part of the body. I'm used to seeing it every day. Dealing with its problems in the middle of class, comparing myself to others, hoping to God that my fishing poll ain't noticed by a closet gay asswhole in the halls. If anything, I love mah penis. And I don't care if Manhattan adds a lil food coloring to it. But, sweet Jesus... They just couldn't get enough hot shots of that thing for all the chicks and loud mouths in the theater. It was either having to draw one of my friends out of the screen long enough to pass me some pop corn, or hear the damned movie over some guy silently moaning to convince people that he wasn't gay.(cause, you know, moaning about a penis in a movie doesn't make you look gay at all.)It was kinda glad they were THAT determined to stay true to the comic. But when we got to the end, I realized my watching the big blue wasn't justified. I had to sit there watching...that...for nothing. =(
The Silk Spectre II in this movie should have been replaced with a decent actor. Ozymandias was not what I expected, either. The ending of this movie wasn't as good as the one in the graphic novel/comic books. Click spoilers to see what I mean. [sp]The ending was pointless in the movie. Framing Dr. Manhattan for destroying major cities wouldn't have brought peace and shit, it would most likely have done the complete opposite. What's the point of uniting against a no-doubtedly indestructible nuclear man who could destroy Earth if he wanted to? Russia and the US wouldn't have united worth shit, in fact, there would be more chaos from losing major cities. The squid made a ton more sense, because it made everyone think that an alien invasion would be upon them, so they united, because the aliens wouldn't be indestructible men who can twist the universe with his hands.[/sp]
One of my favourite films, for sure.
They showed his penis? I didn't notice. Seriously, I didn't. I guess that tells a lot about you.
oh, ha ha, a gay joke. :golfclap: you could've just said "I didn't notice" and skipped the derogatory joke. that's what mature people do. but... ya didn't. I guess that tells a lot about you.
I think the main problem I had with the film is that most of the scenes felt like it was rushed. Probably because making a film under 3 hours with the whole watchmen storyline is impossible. But I think the pace would have been better if it were a mini series and the plot could have been much more like the original comic. But then again, it was a nice adaptation of a great comic book.
This movie isn't even close to the book, but it's ok.
flop flop flop Seriously though it was an excellent movie. Not as good as the graphic novel but still amazing.
oh, ha ha, a gay joke. :golfclap: you could've just said "I didn't notice" and skipped the derogatory joke. that's what mature people do. but... ya didn't. I guess that tells a lot about you.
Actually it was a small penis joke.
actually it was a small penis joke.
I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!!! /caps
I loved this movie, I thought it was actually a really good depiction of the Graphic Novel, but I still think it was better...
I hope someone stabs you and plays around in your blood one day. I hate people that have the point out the whole blue penis thing, who fucking cares.
Exactly this! Who cares, people would be pointing out all the time why he would be wearing a huge Codpiece if they chose that instead. Nothing you haven't seen before Also, I can't rest but post this :C [editline]09:29PM[/editline]
Ozy was too fucking evil looking/sounding throughout the whole movie. They needed someone good hearted and not suspicious at all. Honestly, I still think Will Ferrell could have done it best. He could even look the part. [Will Ferrell images]
Too bad Will Ferrell is a shit actor if he tries dramatic roles.
i don't understand why anyone likes this, but then again it is a graphic novel made into a movie so
Has anyone watched the 3 hours version? Is it any better then the original?
I did. It adds more to the film, like when they killed off Hollis Mason and some more Rorschach moments and (if you are referring to the ultimate cut) the Black Freighter.
only good thing in this movie was the Rorschach scenes everything else is like some generic mystery superhero movie with a cool ending not sayin the movie was bad, but could of been better
Great movie. The actresses in weren't very good though.
Okay then can someone explain to me this! When that bad guy (can't spell his name) had his big speech. All the scientists were in a pile in that electro machine. Then they all got zapped and dissapeared. Would they reapear like Dr Manhatten?
nah I think Manhattan was a special case
nah I think Manhattan was a special case
He was alive.
He was alive.
and there was the fact that he had done it before. this time it was easier because he KNEW how to do it that time.
I feel like this movie failed in a sense because it was too faithful for the comic. David Hayter originally wrote it for a modern day setting, which makes a lot more sense, but then they hired Alex Tse who butchered it and put it back into the 1980's. The whole moral of the comic book isn't even related to time period, and I feel like they put too much effort into time-warping us back into the 80's instead of focusing on what really mattered from the comic. Sad.
Great movie. The actresses in weren't very good though.
True, but at least we got some Malin Akerman boobs, right?
At the start of the film I thought it was really interesting and clever. The idea of superheroes being used by governments and being corrupted was original, appealing and realistic. Rorschach's character was awesome and Dr. Manhattan was pretty cool too. As the movie went on though it just got worse and worse for me. The pacing was completely wrong for large parts of the film, some of the script and acting were terrible and the ending was just plain retarded.

Sad.
I personally wouldn't have liked it if it was set in modern times. it wouldn't make that much sense, because a big plot point in the comics and movie was the Cold War and the US's relationship with the USSR. the Middle East and terrorism in general just wouldn't make a good enough replacement for the former Soviet Union in terms of the comic's plot, unless they pulled a Modern Warfare and made the Russians the Big Bad anyways. I also heard that someone, it may have been David Hayter, it may have been someone else, had scripted for the Masked Vigilantes to be actual superheroes, to appeal to audiences more. THAT would've blown big time.
