It could be entirely possible if an explanation was made, to all those faithful and unfaithful, on how we could further human progress and survival if they dropped their grievances for one another (and towards the beliefs of each group.) But, that's nothing simple.
Not by a longshot. World peace is a bitch, man. And never truly attainable, but world contentment I suppose is. For at least the majority.
That will take time, and seems nearly impossible with devotion and all.
i dont think so it just seems are current system just aint working and we need to turn to a new one
Did thirty go to bed? Man, that sounds like a good idea.. [editline]03:15AM[/editline]
i dont think so it just seems are current system just aint working and we need to turn to a new one
Yeah, but how? Revolution or progression?
i dont think so it just seems are current system just aint working and we need to turn to a new one
democratic socialism. it works in sweden, they have like, no poverty pretty much, there is no extremely rich and poor like there is in the USA.
Yeah, but how? Revolution or progression?
Progression, revolution if that isn't fast enough.
democratic socialism. it works in sweden, they have like, no poverty pretty much, there is no extremely rich and poor like there is in the USA.
well the technocratic movement has been gaining members in recent years. and other revolutionary ideas.
or maybe they can just stop being wankers. you either do, or you do not. you either can, or you cannot. believing in yourself is more productive then believing in a god. it also doesnt bring the nasties of religion with it.
Of course, you can get up, get your hands dirty and do things the right way. But, unfortunately, not everyone has the strength some others might have.
well the technocratic movement has been gaining members in recent years. and other revolutionary ideas.
Technocracy would be beautiful, but the revolution would be poor. Imagine a bunch of scientists versus soldiers.
I think a diverse society would be best.
Also a religious debate became a political collaboration. Marvelous. [editline]03:26AM[/editline] Gotta go folks, family up in half an hour. Work well.
Technocracy would be beautiful, but the revolution would be poor. Imagine a bunch of scientists versus soldiers.
well the venus project (a technocracy idea made by a 94 year old scientist) is one of those but yet its gaining mass that has never before been seen on the internet. they dont have guns but there is strength in numbers.
I'm gonna get to bed too, I need it. Night folks, keep this civil please.
I just don't care about religion and that is what makes my life so great :3:
I just don't care about religion and that is what makes my life so great :3:
until they make it were your child cant learn evolution.
I like rational debate.
I like rational debate.
me too, i also like ice cream :D
Up until near dawn, can't get any sleep at all, and then the discussion is down. I'm gonna try getting some sleep anyway.
Personally, I think religion is taken far too seriously. I see it as a way of hope, a way of getting through your day without fear of dying, or getting disease, or getting bad news. It's a way of having hope, having motivation, and feeling safe. Yet I feel some people take it far too seriously, rather then using religion as a guide, they choose it as a lifestyle. And you end up with all sorts of bad news. I'm not religious, by the way, so don't flame me.
There are some christians I know, and they're the nicest people I know.
Jesus was a pretty chill dude; nobody can deny that. He preached peace and love in a time where there was little. He died for what he believed, and that's pretty noble.
I am an agnostic myslef.. You're way more polite and logical than the most part of christians out there. And you have my respect. You have some good points, where you say it's all up to logic, and what your guts screams you it's the truth. No divine inspiration, No reedeming from the sin, or dumb stuff like that. And you gain more respect. Still, i disagree with what you think about the 10 commandments. They were decided on 325dc. in Nicea, togheder with the "holy" nature of Virgin Mary and Christ. That was to control the masses. You can say "those are still good rules to live!" but if you think about it.. it lack a lot of things. What about rape, for example? it say nothing.. Could have been good rules to live on sec III, but i can say that are very outdated for being used in sec XXI. Inner humanity is a beast that only your logic can cage. That's why I do what my guts scream me it's good, and i dont what my guts scream me is not.
until they make it were your child cant learn evolution.
That's a pretty big generalization. Not all christians are against the teaching of evolution, and even if it was made illegal for some strange reason, would it really affect your child that much? Unless he becomes an evolutionary biologist or goes into a related field, he's not going to need an understanding of the theory to be successful in life.
I think FP has a big anti religion bandwagon fueled by radical 12-14 year old atheists. You cannot discuss it without people taking all christians for fundamentalist madmen in their posts for instant. Why does it matter for either side? If the FP atheists don't care shit about religion and know all christians are mad and beyond saving then just let it be. Sure christians can be really bad but only in stereotypes or the rare truly fundamentalist inviduals. TL;DR; Why the fuck does it matter? These occasional quarrels won't matter shit in the end. A short ban or two at most. Edit: You lot already have the right not to believe without being burned for herecy. Give the people who believe the right to believe.

FP might have a big anti-religion bandwagon, but there are also some very intelligent atheists/agnostics here who were giving us very good debate material. Maybe we're meant to fill in the blanks? Although I think not coveting the wife of one's neighbor covers rape.... eh.
This is what's interesting about debates between one followers of one religion (or lackthereof) and another. In most cases, both sides just like acting bigoted towards the other. They both claim they're so different, and how they're better, when in reality they're more alike than they think. They'll never admit it though. God forbid they be compared to those terrible, evil, foolish (insert here).
It's because we're a bunch of stupid kids who haven't investigated the matter and base everything off our own biased opinion. No one wants to be proven wrong, especially when your young and stubborn.
So belief in any god or higher being is ridiculous and immediately makes you a foolish human being?
yes
yes
I highly recommend you read the thread, as it's actually quite a good read.
Wait, this thread is not a flamewar? And we're on page 11? I'm sure there is a god.
What FP needs to know is that being religious doesn't automatically make you stupid.

I think that's a 'don't cheat' one. But yeah, totally with you on the 'fill in the blanks' idea.
