That's a pretty big generalization. Not all christians are against the teaching of evolution, and even if it was made illegal for some strange reason, would it really affect your child that much? Unless he becomes an evolutionary biologist or goes into a related field, he's not going to need an understanding of the theory to be successful in life.
I never said that, but not letting a school teach fact because some people are stupid is wrong is you ask me.

Evolution is not a fact. It's a theory, which is as close as science or any other form of hypothesis formulation can come to fact.
Though I agree. Evolution should be taught in schools, or at least as it pertains to natural selection and how the organisms we know nowadays came to be.

not saying they are all stupid, just the some that dont believe in evolution

imasillypiggy, I just realized you've never told us your personal views on faith.

Very close, I agree. Though, I posit that evolution should be made clear as a theory when taught, not as 'we know this to be true'. New evidence always comes to light about the machinations of the universe, and we must update our theories accordingly.
I never understood why a god that's friendly and loving to all decides that he'll punish whoever doesn't acknowledge him as their leader. Wouldn't he just be all "well you were wrong, but I will accept it"?

We went over this around page 5 or 6, I believe...
Some people accepted that God is a father figure, using the example 'If your child threw a brick through a window, would you make him pay for the window, or let him keep on chucking bricks?'
Others acknowledged an absence of God, etc.
We had a wide variety of opinions.
Really, this thread has been really good about discussion and minimizing flaming.
A+ thread so far, will read again.

atheist, but i think that we should not just try to get rid of it because the reason why we have religion is because the world we live in sucks so much. It helps some people in thinking that after this bad life they will go to a nice place. this does help the status quo though. so i think if we fix this world religion would leave. but its not like getting people to lose there faith is a bad thing. (sorry if i spelled anything wrong its not my strong suit)
It's an archaic law system, but it worked.
Yes. It worked so well, that you're here now and saying this. It worked so well, you've been morphed and molded to think this way. Ahhahahaha, that's the whole point of it. To make brainless drones like you.
The hilarious part is that you have the capacities to recognize your suppressors, but you accept them and promote them. And then you fuck yourself and your freewill by being submissive to them, while agreeing to it.
But if I told you that you were controlled, you'd be like "WHAT?NO MAN THATS NO TRUE"
[editline]03:16PM[/editline]
A sensible human being would say "The most rational stance on religion would be to be agnostic, due to lack of evidence proving god's existence as true or false."
If god did exist, then he is the biggest dick ever.
God or not, we should go on as we are, living a life uninfluenced by the invisible sky man you hold so dearly to be true. Get off your lazy ass and realize that you make the world for what it is, and not this "god" that has been mostly used as population control.

well environmentally we are all getting controlled and yes it is true that nationalism comes from hearing god bless America alot. i wish we treated government like we did science, ran tests and saw which way has the best way of life for all. you cant just hate the system we are in without having a better plan. if we have a revolution then lets have a plan of what we are going to do after.

Aside from the fact that christianity provides a basic moral foundation, how is it used to "control" as you put it? I mean, I understand there are isolated instances of people trying to sway votes one way or another by claiming they're adhering to christian values, but you speak as though christianity on the whole is one big conspiracy.
In my school they teach us science, religion and everything as theories, cause in all honestly that's what they are!

well it is a way of control because you are raised to believe a meme thats only purpose is to spread. so you will be doing that, every christian does in fact the 10 commandments were based on how to spread there religion faster. thats just the way religions and memes work

So the purpose is for it to spread and spread only? No other motives? Not to enslave, make people worship the conspirators, or keep the rich rich and the poor poor? Pretty lame conspiracy if you ask me.
How can Christianity be in any way wrong?? when they teach morals such as do not kill...

let's just put down my guard down for hmmm, let's say, my whole lifetime
Did I miss the religious shit storm, or am I just in time?
I seriously need some good old fashioned arguing today.

They also teach you that torturing people for eternity is benevolent, and having good morals doesn't mean it's true.

I think it's starting up now, the rest of thread was just nice debate.

its not a conpiracy its the science of memes themselves. but this means that horrible things will happen just to make sure that it spreads and yea people do make money off of it, but mostly its about spreading, thats why they hate gays (they cant make babys) thats also why they hate masterbation (not making children) same as birth control
I enjoyed reading this thread. I myself am Agnostic, but I have 'apathetic agnosticism' as what you could define as a subgroup or subreligino or whatever.
Basically I believe in the possibility that a deity or deities may exist, that they have not yet been proven or dis-proven by scientific or religious texts or research and that if one doe currently exists, it seems not to care for the fate of mankind.
All religion is manipulative lying bullshit.

No. I want it to go no further. We've gotten too advanced to believe in fairytales and imaginary friends.
I have a lot of friends who are christian/catholic and my family is too. They all are really nice people and very smart.

I think the works of the likes of Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. prove that violence isn't the only way to instigate positive change, especially in our society.
Holy crap, you people are still arguing? I thought would be locked by now.

It's less of an argument and more of a dignified discussion, at least until the more recent pages. As long as it remains as such, I'm sure the thread will remain open. However, a few more recent posts appear to either be flamebait or non-intelligent insult flinging.
