It's less of an argument and more of a dignified discussion, at least until the more recent pages. As long as it remains as such, I'm sure the thread will remain open. However, a few more recent posts appear to either be flamebait or non-intelligent insult flinging.
Kind of like in this comic?

did the thread die or what?
Let me give you a bit of perspective here.
I was raised to be a christian, and for about 9 years, I was.
Until, of course, I realized that a large part of being Christian is
sitting around with your head up your ass refusing to believe things that
have been scientifically proven.
Not to mention the whole idea of forcing beliefs down other people's throats.
The whole entire deal is hypocritical at best.
I was raised to be a christian, and now I'm not.
Who knows what I am.
Anarchist, maybe?

thats how a religion spreads.
True.
Unfortunately.
Anarchism isn't a religion..
Inb4: "You're all going to hell."
Oh, wait. :smug:

I don't think I'd go so far as shoving it down other's throats.
Also, what scientific facts are christians denying? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is evolution, and really I'm pretty sure that genesis was more of a metaphor than a literal account.

not to be mean but if they were really using science then they kinda wouldnt believe in god because they would understand that the chances of there being a god is very low

Really? I didn't read that study. Could you drop a link?
Well, that probably sounds kind of harsh, but I don't know how else to put it. Ultimately, science cannot confirm nor deny the existence of God.

you are right god cant be confirmed or denied but sinse we kinda already know how the universe started (mostly) so why believe in it ( i hope i didt star a flame war)

Naw, that's why I edited my post, a flame war is the last thing any of us want.
I had a post on this subject a few pages back, if you want I can re-post it.

Many Modern Christians say that the Big Bang was caused by god, as was Evolution.

why are they so certain of something they have no proof of?
God dammit really, this thread is still up?

Yep
why are they so certain of something they have no proof of?
Again, I have a post on this exact subject a few pages back. I'll edit it into this post.
Here:
It is not completely without evidence, however the issue is mainly with the evidence itself. Many christians would view existence itself as proof of God, however, ultimately it leads to what basically amounts the "chicken or the egg" question: what created the universe? If God, what created God? Both resulting answers have the exact same problem.
There's also the obvious answer that "the bible is evidence" however this is also rightly questioned. It's basically an old book, what's to prove it wasn't made up?
A great deal of study has gone into that subject. I will not attempt to condense it all into one post here, however I can look up articles on the subject if you wish.
Really, there's a lot more to this than I can go into in one post, but if you want to debate on the more specific aspects leading to the conclusion that there is a God, I will go into it.
In the meantime, I think I'm going to bed.
you make it seem that having a god exist and not are around 50/50. its kinda like saying someone rang on my door bell but yet i dont know who it could be? its could be that its bigfoot or its not bigfoot. now which one is more likely.

More like someone rang my door bell, is someone at the door, or is my doorbell malfunctioning?
More like someone rang my door bell, is someone at the door, or is my doorbell malfunctioning?
well the chances of there being something more complex then the universe (many times more complex) creating the universe is kinda unlikely.
More like someone rang my door bell, is someone at the door, or is my doorbell malfunctioning?
Well that's a horrible metaphor.
well the chances of there being something more complex then the universe (many times more complex) creating the universe is kinda unlikely.
I actually don't even believe that. I believe God created everything in the universe.
I believe that God is the universe.
Think of it this way: everything in the universe is to God as a dream is to us.

yes and we are more complex then the parts of are brain that makes dreams. by adding god into the universe is making the universe alot less likely to be made.

Ok, maybe that was worded badly. I don't mean to say that God is a human brain, or that the way his mind works (and consequently how the world is constructed) is only as great as ours.
More like, our minds work like God's on a much, much smaller scale.
The parts of our brains that handle dreams aren't capable of creating worlds on that scale.
God is not human.
Evolution is not a fact. It's a theory, which is as close as science or any other form of hypothesis formulation can come to fact.
Though I agree. Evolution should be taught in schools, or at least as it pertains to natural selection and how the organisms we know nowadays came to be.
evolution is a fact. it can be observed in nature with bacteria, how species split and etc etc. natural selection is the process by which evolution works. evolution by natural selection is the theory explaining how life diversified. please look things up before just posting.

hi i believe X because.
seriously why do you have to make up these absurd and unsupported stories of how everything came to be, despite the fact that there are scientific explanations for all of it. it would be like me saying, well, gravity might be caused by the higgs boson, but i believe its magical creatures from another dimension pulling all matter together. honestly what the fuck.

uh, no. the universe came out the big bang. what caused the big bang? we don't fucking know so stop acting like you know because you read it in a book made up at a time when you could convince the average person on the street that the world was flat.
so please do reply to this, as you didn't last time.

I didn't reply last time as it was a rather incoherent post, I had assumed you either didn't understand what I wrote or were a troll.
Clearly it was the former.
I didn't say the big bang didn't happen, and as the section in the bible on creation is not a literal account, it's not in the book "made up at a time when you could convince the average person on the street that the world was flat."
In the midst of this, you've completely missed the point I was trying to make. My point was that in most arguments, christians claim that the very fact that anything exists at all is proof that something created it. Then the other side says "if God didn't need a creator, why does the universe?"
Ultimately, they both require something not have a creator. In my philosophy, those two things are the same.
Now if you want to make another post, please take as much time as you need to come up with one that isn't disrespectful to the other people in the discussion, whether they're christian or not. Not to mention they really don't seem that well thought out...

Actually it's quite absurd to claim anything as fact. To say that it's absolutely impossible that new evidence will ever arise to the contrary is quite... illogical.

but here is the thing, there still is no reason to believe in a god. if there was some proof but sadly there is not. it is possible that there is a god and people have not 100% disproven god, but i dont believe in things just because they could be. atleast have some proof for the things you believe. there could be vampires but yet i dont believe there is. do you see my point

I do. However, as I said before, it's not lack of evidence that's at issue here, it's quality of evidence.
