Did you read books about unicorns before you decided they don't exist. What about dragons? Did you read The Lord Of The Rings before you made up your mind about Sauron and The One Ring?
I will not deny there are similarities between christianity and other religions. That said, you clearly don't have the knowledge of history required to properly form the arguments you're trying to make. I'm not claiming to be an expert here either, but I can tell you that christianity was not based on paganism. As I've said before, it's not the simple fact that there is a collection of teachings that proves it's truth, it's that there are scholars studying the bible, it's origins, and the history involved that shows that if nothing else, a great volume of it is true. In spite of that, it's detractors, whom lack a proper understanding of history, will always see it as a "book of fairytales" without bothering to do any research.
first yes the it was based on other religions there were 60 other jesuses before there was jesus from other religions so jesus was just based off of those guys and the scholar thing, they are christian scholars so they will say its true. there are muslim scholars saying that islam is true as well. you do not have any proof the only you can up with is that christians say its true so its true if you want i could give you a few links that disprove those christian scholars. which science already disproved were all false many years ago
Me and OP share the same point of view. Believe in a God, but he doesn't control life. It seems like most "atheists" these days are proud of avoiding brainwash or something. It's stupid.
Because being brainwashed is good?...
Did you read books about unicorns before you decided they don't exist. What about dragons?
Because being brainwashed is good?...
hey it stops you from thinking and thinking is hard
You're right man, just look outside your window! It's so obvious that the world is flat!
actually it isnt because we used science to prove its not.
actually it isnt because we used science to prove its not.
Thank you for proving my point.
"You can't prove or disprove religion"
"You can't prove or disprove religion"
you cant prove a negative.
Nobody debates because they want to find the truth. The world would be a much better place if that was the case. Everybody debates to be right, to destroy their enemy. That's why a thread like this will never work. Ever.
I don't think people are gonna debate to "destroy" the other person. It's really simple, what it boils down to is the opinion i have vs the opinion YOU have. It's why all religious fourms never work you're right, and what's worse is when some dumb idiot has an idea they try to cram it into someone's mind that it's the right idea and that if they don't like it, or think different of it they will be punished. It's human ignorance to try and be the "one right"

Of course, the OP gets several dumb ratings, simply because he brought up his religion... Damnit, Facepunch... Now let's wait and see how many I get...
You're right man, just look outside your window! It's so obvious that the world is flat!
What the fuck does that have to do with what I said. My point was, that you don't need to study the details of the stories from the Bible to know that they're not true.
What the fuck does that have to do with what I said. My point was, that you don't need to study the details of the stories from the Bible to know that they're not true.
My point is that there are a lot of claims that sounded ridiculous at first and turned out to be true. Take the curvature of the earth for example. If you just go by "what sounds ridiculous and what doesn't" then you'll end up believing the earth is flat. If you critically question every idea, no matter how ridiculous it is, you get a round one. See my point? In other words, you either take a scientific approach to everything, or you become a hypocrite.
I'm an Anglican, the main trouble with Christians tends to stem from Catholics, who mainly believe the Bible's every word. We tend to be a bit more lenient.
I have a very christian friend yet he is probably one of the most logical, sensible people I know. When the Prop 8 discussion came around, he was cheering for the gays, and how you shouldn't force your values on anyone.
Tolerance is a ridiculous concept, it's like a pill bigots take so they can continue being dumbasses without fucking other people over.
Santa Claus is real.

This is a discussion, not a contest. I'm not here trying to be right, I'm simply providing my perspective. Now if you'd like to add to the discussion, then raise a question or post something relevant. If not, then leave.
but i wasnt getting upset. fine i will pose a question why do you believe in somthing that is not logical and most likely isnt real
I've already taken time to explain why being a christian is not illogical. Personally I tend to follow the teachings of Christ,

Treat people the way I would like to be treated.
Leave the judging to god, i.e. what right do I have to judge people? Very, very smart OP. You really can't hate people for a religious belief, it's the same as hating someone immediately for their political beliefs, where they live or the color of their skin. It comes down to the person. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that go to church on Christmas and Easter, then go out and drink and smoke and hate for the rest of the year; there are bad apples in every group. [editline]05:03PM[/editline] By the way, I'm Anglican Catholic, as far as I know it's the most politically middle and in my opinion it's the most sensible church, no Pope or megachurches for us.
Science is God's proof that he exists.
Science is God's proof that he exists.
Not too sure if you're being sarcastic or serious, but I don't think of it like that. I've decided by myself that there's nothing to definitively prove God or disprove God, that's the basis and reason of faith. You've got no proof that the person will catch you when you fall back but you trust that they will. I trust the theory of evolution even though we can't watch as it happens or trace it completely. There's no proof the Steamboat Arabia's buried here, nobody's found it yet, but I trust it is.
#2 isnt new and original at all, because the Bahaii faith revolves around that entire idea. I was a Bahaii once. Nobody knows god besides the prophets so all of the gods of monotheist and polytheist are human depictions of the one and only god.

I studied that on Teology classes, first paper on it is from the 17th century.
You're two days late and he never said it was a new idea, just what he believed. Now that I think about it you can draw quite a few parallels in ancient religions and Christianity, if you seperate the myths and the legends. Never thought about it that way. [editline]07:30PM[/editline]
If that were true you would have pursued a career in science. You don't want truth, you want answers.
Super athiest people are as bad as super religious people. You hate some people because they "force their beliefs on you," and then you turn around and tell someone that they shouldn't be doing what they want because it bothers you. [editline]edit[/editline]
Also, why believe only the good parts? And if you do, God will send you to hell because he loves you. (Rev 22:19)
Looks like someone's citing verses and not bothering to check the actual meaning of them. I'm not really even sure where you got that meaning, what I read of it is that if you add or remove holy text with bad intent it's a sin, not if you follow the word of God you're going to hell. I know I can't keep a debate going from this long ago when someone else has probably already addressed it, it just bugs me that people talk second-hand about things without bothering to check them.

At first I thought that sounded crazy too but scientists try to hide things because they don't want to believe that there is a God. That's why there is evolution and other things like that in modern text books. Also you can't create life with materials like they try to, playing as God does not work.
