This thread might have worked a lot better if you explained what facism and communism are, because I don't think most of FP has a very good idea [editline]16th November 2010[/editline]
Again, no explanation. You're being too vague. How and why did it fail?
Millions starved to death, it went bankrupt and disintegrated.
If you don't want to work, you'll simply receive less.
Sure but what he's talking about is that there is NO money and NO rewards. You do what you do only for the good of everyone else. I'm saying that in that situation, most people would take the easiest job possible or move to a Capitalist country and get what they deserve.

Aren't we pretty much bankrupt (only borrow more loans and en-debt ourselves?)? It's the poor choices by people with influence not the inherent system. I'm saying that in that situation, most people would take the easiest job possible or move to a Capitalist country and get what they deserve.
Money is just a paper fiat used to exchange for goods (your actual rewards). If you choose to take a more difficult/dangerous job, you'll be expected to receive better rewards. This could be anything from longer vacation, larger shelter, better transportation, etc.
Don't millions starve to death in capitalism countries?
Not in the United States or Europe. I can't say with absolute certainty about the rest of the world but probably not, no.
Aren't we pretty much bankrupt (only borrow more loans and en-debt ourselves?)?
We're in debt. We are not in danger of total collapse of the state, nor do we face imminent financial ruin.
It's the poor choices by people with influence not the inherent system.
Wait, are you admitting the USSR was a failure?
Even without the equal pay thing there's always the issue of people having no reason to succeed. I mean, why go through the education and training of being a doctor when you can get an easy job that requires no skill and still come out equal to everyone else? We SHOULD do things just for the good of doing them but most people just don't work that way.
because being a doctor is a job you can feel good about having instead of a turkey inseminator, thats why there are doctors in communist countries [editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
Communism =/= everyone gets paid the same For a start no one gets paid because in communism there is no money, the good are simply distributed fairly this doesn't mean everyone gets the same, for example the man who is larger and can get more stuff done gets more food because he needs it to continue to get more stuff done. The guy who is disabled gets whatever he needs to live a fulfilling life. The person who lazes about and does nothing (without a good reason) gets the bare minimum to survive.
sadly though this is used for people in the government to get way more then the others
Not in the United States or Europe. I can't say with absolute certainty about the rest of the world but probably not, no.
The first world has fucked over the third world, ie. through monetary policies. Not to mention wars of conquest and for resources.
We're in debt. We are not in danger of total collapse of the state, nor do we face imminent financial ruin.
You're saying that but we would be in a much much worse situation had we not manipulated the markets in 2008, etc etc. Do you think borrowing more money will solve our problems?
Wait, are you admitting the USSR was a failure?
Was the Roman empire a failure? Along the lines, someone fucked up. I blame much of the initial fault on Stalin's implementation of socialism. There were many things that could have been done differently. Then there's Brezhnev to blame for the economic stagnation which became a decline once Gorbachev took power. Then the transition of power was more of a coup than a collapse.

Second, of course there would still be doctors but they will either be on very short supply and the advancement of medicine and technology in general would slow down dramatically because many of the reasons people come up with these advancements are for fame, monetary gain, and other selfish reasons rather than to help mankind. Like I said, most people who had any motivation to actually make something of themselves would quickly leave this hypothetical country or just decide to give up on their dream.
Well for one thing, none of the "Communist" countries work the way he was describing.
Communist or socialist? Make up your mind.
Second, of course there would still be doctors but they will either be on very short supply and the advancement of medicine and technology in general would slow down dramatically because many of the reasons people come up with these advancements are for fame, monetary gain, and other selfish reasons rather than to help mankind.
Where are you getting this bullshit?
Fascism Socialism will be superior.
Wait, are you admitting the USSR was a failure?
All empires/countries eventually result in failure. People who truly want to help the world, will help the world.
Im help out in science labs sometimes not because I want money (they dont pay me) but because i just love science. for some reason people think that money is the only reason why someone would do anything
i choose radical centralist
i choose radical centralist
so the kind that wants to gas all jews, but can't since you shot the manufacturers for not reaching the production quota?
Wouldn't the furthest right you can go be anarchy?
No, that's left. The furthest right is Fascism. [editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
Wait, are you admitting the USSR was a failure?
The USSR WAS a failure.
No, that's left. The furthest right is Fascism.
well for the econimy it would be right because nothing would stop companies
so the kind that wants to gas all jews, but can't since you shot the manufacturers for not reaching the production quota?
I definitely maybe agree with you. [editline]16th November 2010[/editline]
No, that's left. The furthest right is Fascism.
He was right. Right-wing means less government interference, left-wing means more government interference. But that's simplifying things.
so the kind that wants to gas all jews, but can't since you shot the manufacturers for not reaching the production quota?
How the hell did you reach that conclusion
I'd rather live in anarchy and be killed by my neighbors and eaten than in a completely enslaved state where I can't have any free will whatsoever. This is actually funny that I came across this thread because just a few hours ago my friend and I were discussing this.

is that why animals in zoos would rather try to escape to the wild and die free then live enslaved.
No you wouldn't, it's against human nature.
First off, specify what is against human nature next time. I'm going to assume you meant dying was better than being a slave was against human nature, and no, it's not. The reason I live is for my own enjoyment and if I cannot even choose to do what I want then I'd rather die. (and at least my cannibalistic neighbors would benefit)
I'd rather live in Germany 1938 than the USSR 1950.
I'd rather live in Germany 1938 than the USSR 1950.
1970's were better, mang.
I chose Fascism, but only because Germany sounded nice during 1930. At least better than communism. I have no idea though, Stalin killed allot of his people so that makes me not wanna go communism.
is that why animals in zoos would rather try to escape to the wild and die free then live enslaved.
Read "Life of Pi". That's actually a common misconception.
inb4 everyone voting against facism because of the Nazis. Oh no, I'm to late Edit: Both would have been better, if it weren't for insane leaders
