Maybe it's just me and my imagination, but I feel that the whole progress is shifting to more and more consumer aimed industry - things are sold more by marketing tricks, and making stuff as cheap as possible, not by making something novelty which would be actually worth it for it's value. There of course is progress in science, but I feel that it's actually valuable portion slows down in behalf of portion which makes the manufacturer profit more.
Alot has happened just for the last 10 years, and alot will happen in the next 10 years. Things are going foward, faster if anything!
I'm going to simplify. Many people say the internet is an example. A very good one too. But look at PHONES. We can, without any wires or in most cases antenna hear the voice of someone who is thousands of miles away by using space.

You can buy anything with the right amount of cash.
There are probably people in buttfuck nowhere Louisiana that don't know about modern tech.
I'm hoping by 2040 we will be more spacefaring. Don't care about shit like hovercars and jet packs unless they'll actually be useful and not just a fad.
This. Space is more important than hovercars. We need to expand and learn more about the cosmos lest humanity is doomed on this mud ball.
This is a pretty damn technological age right now
"Novelty" and the like do exist. Things like "Personal Computer" or "Cellphone" are a novelty, but I can't think of so many things like this which became available in last years but more of them which came in the previous ten.
Baby steps, my good friend. Baby steps.
As technology evolves, we evolve. The new stuff of today isn't too appealing to us, but if it was ten years back you'd jizz your pants.
It will, but we won't realise, we'll just think "this'll never work" and then a few years down the line its used by everyone. Just like the cellphone.

Back when the first computer was invented it wasn't commercially available either, we just kept on improving upon that until we have things like the laptop. For example, Netbooks weren't available back in 2000. Technology is rapidly advancing, you're just not noticing the change. Even my dad, who has been around since the time they had huge computers that took up full rooms and old school games like digger and pong, isn't really as amazed by all of this new technology because he's been there as it all changed and progressed.
Remember back in 2000? Remember when TVs used to look like this? Where the fuck did they go? TVs now look like this: Technology is advancing, but slowly so you don't notice it. It's not like you wake up one day and BAM INTERSTELLAR HOVER CARS
All of those predictions and pop-culture representations of the future were nothing but fantasy, there was no basis in reality for them, just because the Russians launched a metal ball into space with a fucking gigantic rocket doesn't mean that 50 years later, everyone will be flying around in hover cars, using jet packs to get to school, there was no technical basis to any of this, they were just romanticizing and capitalizing on it.
No such thing as future technology, as the future is always now.
No, your future was "then". Now is "then" or "present".
If you think about it, most older people were excluded from some of the technological world (mostly the internet) I'm scared of being excluded in the future of maybe internet's baby..
I remember reading this book about future stuff back published in 1998. It said videophones in 2012. We had them in 2007. Technology is taking a different route then we thought. Who needs flying cars when we have good ones now?
Our tv still looks like that :gonk:
Me too. But I'm perfectly happy to have my old cathode ray. It's cheap and it looks decent. I don't need super high definition.

Instead of flying cars, we need to improve public transport to have less people on the road, and we need to perfect self drive-able vehicles.
Me too. A lot of things are already completely excluding low def television and only marketing for the higher def. Mostly if not all video games on consoles at this point have unreadable text when playing on a cathode ray tv.

In the past everyone was excited for videophones and shit and now that we have them we realize how useless it is for everyday use. You know that asshole that cut you off today and almost had you killed? You are now several dozen feet above the ground. What would be a minor accident on the ground would be incredibly deadly once airborne. [editline]06:08PM[/editline]
Sooner or later you're gonna have to upgrade.
It's funny. In the past everyone was excited for videophones and shit and now that we have them we realize how useless it is for everyday use.
I remember an ad in about 2004 declaring "VIDEO MESSAGING IS HERE" and showing some guy that looked like Ainsley Harriet talking to someone on a video that looked like 120p at around 8 frames per second
Sure, I'll get right on not being poor. It's so simple!
It is. If you have gone through school and have a good head on your shoulders, making money is no harder than taking a walk in the park.
Near future is always less exciting, technology doesn't advance as fast as people imagine.
Some things simply aren't practical and should remain in science fiction.
It is. If you have gone through school and have a good head on your shoulders, making money is no harder than taking a walk in the park.
I know several people who have worked hard their entire lives in school only to have it taken out from under them due to the shitty economy, including my own father. As much as after school specials like to tell you that if you work hard all your dreams can come true, the reality is that you become rich only if you are in the right place at the right time. Having brains is half the battle. You need to have luck.
No such thing as future technology, as the future is always now.
no, the present is now, are you dense
Protip: You don't make good money by working hard. You can easily put yourself in the right place, and if luck doesn't strike there are endless of other methods you can use to make easy money.
Are you stupid? Take a look at the screen you're fucking staring into, think for two seconds about how far we've come in such a short time and how easily we can continue.
