highest flash sync I've seen is 1/500 on a 1D, I'm not sure though
D40 also does this (not the D40x).
I've got a friend who constantly oogles camera equipment and keeps buying new shit despite never needing it. He has: Canon 7D, 580exII Flashgun and a pocketwizard, he's thinking of buying a new flash because he didn't look into the common problem ahead of time, and says when he gets everything fixed he can sync at 1/1000th of a second but first he needs a 9x18 seamless paper backdrop so he can do a photoshoot at the car dealership he works at using the alienbees lighting setup he bought without even researching first and still can't figure out how to balance things out.
FUCK
I'm making a new thread about "fauxtogs" brb
wait when did this become a flash sync discussion
i hate it when people buy flashy gear because "photography is easy money"
I have yet to buy a flash because I still do not know how I would use it.
highest flash sync I've seen is 1/500 on a 1D, I'm not sure though
Well the auto fp thing allows you to have a "flash sync" of up to 1/8000, albit with lower power than without fp and max of 1/200. (or whatever your sync is) Still better than no light at all
This for example, i shot at 1/1000, just took it right now, used flash otherwise it would be dark.

Same - anyone care to write a guide?
Wait so is there a specific subject or what have you for this week? All I see is the twist (1/1000 shutter speed)
Wait so is there a specific subject or what have you for this week? All I see is the twist (1/1000 shutter speed)
That was the subject, people wanted just that.
I thought with all the discussion of the subject that it meant you were all interested in entering this week.
I guess not.
So here's my entry for this week... try two, I didn't like the other one very much so I had an idea and I like how this one came out much better. My previous entry that I'm not using can be found here. Maybe it's just that I'm fascinated with macro photography and I think it's better than pretty much everything else if it's done right(except landscapes). One day I'll have a real macro lens... One day.
sure
Thanks, I did.
Can we start discussing a topic for next week or do already you have something in mind?
No definitely discuss.
I was just going to choose something from jake's list if nobody had anything in mind.

How about light painting as the theme? And the twist is that it all has to be done by you, no help.
Plus people should include how they took the photo and provide a little back round info/story on the photo.
or a video
or a video
Wasn't it you that was complaining about challenges that require specific equipment?
The only videos I can do are shitty mobile phone videos or time lapses.
yeah i was but lets face it most of us a have a point and shoot with video capibility

[editline]30th May 2011[/editline]

It's a Weekly photo challenge. Not a weekly video challenge.

No but I mean as a separate contest
No but I mean as a separate contest
That could be interesting but it would probably have be a monthly thing as 1 week doesn't sound like enough time to make a good video.
i meant like you post your photo and video of you doing it to show you did it alone
I featured bigboy's post
Next week's:
Theme:
Painting with light
Twist:
Must use at least two different colors (or levels of brightness if shooting in black and white)
wwwwwwwaaaaaatttttttttt
[editline]30th May 2011[/editline]

Draw with a marker on some plastic cling wrap and put it over a light.

Actually a bottle cap painted with sharpies would probably work better so that it's more diffused.
