I featured you because you're the only entry :smith: [editline]6th June 2011[/editline] Is anyone interested in this anymore?
I featured you because you're the only entry :smith: [editline]6th June 2011[/editline] Is anyone interested in this anymore?
It's because everyone just finished exams and it's the end of the academic year, people are busy.
I'm just too lazy.
It's because everyone just finished exams and it's the end of the academic year, people are busy.
I've not even finished my exams yet :sigh:
I featured you because you're the only entry :smith: [editline]6th June 2011[/editline] Is anyone interested in this anymore?
I'm still interested. But as Roll_Program said, this is a really busy time of year, so people won't have as much time. I say keep it going, participation will probably pick up in a week or two.
So what's this weeks topic? We need to have a topic ready a day or two in advance so it's not always a last minute rush.
I've not even finished my exams yet :sigh:
same here
So what's this weeks topic? We need to have a topic ready a day or two in advance so it's not always a last minute rush.
Nobody voted on a topic yet.
I've not even finished my exams yet :sigh:
Me neither.
bud also made an entry, I guess he forgot to actually post it here.
i was testing out my camera's long exposure and there just so happened to be a long exposure challenge going on. i only spent 5 minutes on this because it's ridiculously cold outside yeah boring image/boring idea, but i thought it was neat because of the reflected upside-down green figure on the right. i'm not sure how that happened, i mean it's obviously the figure on the right but upside-down and green. actually now that i think about it it's just a lens flare. yep.
I just now found this thread, and it seems interesting, all I'm worried about is that I won't get off my lazy ass and do it and that my shitty 7 year old point-and-click won't take pictures of a high enough quality to compete with even the cheapest DSLR. How does voting for a topic work? Do we just suggest? If so, how about something like urbanization, with a twist that there can't be any people in the shot?
bud also made an entry, I guess he forgot to actually post it here.
thanks bro :respek:
Sorry for the lack of topic this week. How do you guys feel about next week's topic being something like "Advertising"? You'd take a shot that you could imagine seeing in a magazine ad.
Sounds cool to me.
I wish I had my own camera. Also I liked your night theme Jo, people have no imagination around here.
yeah, nothing to do with a night time shot at 1/1000 being unreasonable, it's just that we're a bunch of close-minded idiots
Yeah, pretty much. You could have gone into a brightly lit room full of people playing poker or something, so long as it implied night life. It's not that hard to think of workarounds, that's what the twist is about.
Again, you can't shoot anything less than sunlight at 1/1000. Flashes won't sync that fast, so unless you walk into a club with a spot light, you're shit out of luck. The whole point of having 1/1000 as a challenge anyway would be getting people to take frozen-action shots, not force them to take pictures of hung over ravers at noon on the street after a party. The twists need to be more thought out. You can't just say one thing, and then throw a random backpedal 'challenge' on top of it. "The theme is underwater, the twist is you can't have any water in your picture." :downs: That doesn't work. Sure you can get some ultra ~creative~ submissions (that everyone likes to fantasize about but never actualizes) with clever workarounds, but it's far from open enough to be a good challenge that people can actually work with. It's like if someone thought they could make a more challenging Portal level than Valve by filling an entire room full of turrets and nothing else.

theme should be spots twist is it must contain hot pink
a twist can be creative without being directly related to how high your camera's ISO goes while still getting a decent picture in fact the less it is related to the equipment, the better, because more people can participate
Landscape photo shot at f/16 Twist: There has to be something defocused in the foreground
I don't know, it was pretty similar to what my photo teacher gives us. I was more thinking that you could maybe have a shot of people passed out in the morning, or a really surreal shot of some lights, or just anything that implied night life without actually being dark. It's fine though, I won't do that again. Anyway, This week's topic: Advertisement I can't think of a twist, does anyone else have an idea?
Advertisement - Twist: No brand names/logos.
I think my idea is better!! Ok here's the other idea Advertisement: Goal of this is to find something that advertises. The thing is though you have to use the slogan of the advertisement as the inspiration of the photo i.e. Got Milk? Taking a picture of a person looking for milk in a refrigerator Something like that sounds fun. Either that or the image has to be stereoscopic
I like the topic enough to not care what the twist is, but i do like both bopies and shuckles ideas. Shuckle's idea is like a more specific version of bopie's idea, as it doesn't use brand names/logos.
I can't think of a twist, does anyone else have an idea?
How about, It must be an object/item that you created yourselves.
advertisement sounds good. I thought "no brands/logos" wouldn't be much of a twist, but thinking about it I like it. let's refine it- You must create an advertisement. The photo cannot have the product in it, but you should at least come up with a slogan/branding to accompany the photo so it makes sense. It can be an existing product, BUT: • You can't put a photo of the product in the advertising (like a tiny picture of the can of energy drink, or the packaging to some virus software). Only text, but a logo and branded text are OK. • The picture has to make sense. You can't just take a picture of a girl in a bikini and say "DRINK MONSTER ENERGY YEAH!!!" even though they do that in real ads. this would be a good real-world example. I hope your models aren't as cheesy at posing as these two though

You mean like the Louis Vuitton ads where only 1% of the picture is the bag and the other 99% is about a Hot chick and a Hot dude?
