edison is a badass for doing that
Yeah, Tesla is fairly awesome, but he went completely crazy in the second half of his life and continually tried to scam investors and governments for money for his 'world system' and death rays. He once promised to make the British isles invulnerable in a few months by lining the coast with towers which would fire particles of mercury via magnetic fields. Indeed, he produced many fantastic inventions, but even when he retained his sanity he had the tendency to exaggerate their capabilities. After producing a remote controlled boat, he foresaw the development of the torpedo, but thought it would make war impossible, a common claim of his with many of his proposed concepts.

I used to like Edison somewhat. Then I heard of this guy.
I always liked Tesla better than Edison, because Edison was a huge asshole and Tesla was always the underdog
Nikolai Tesla.
Are you Serb about that?
I happen to be doing my Senior paper on Nikola Tesla. The man was a fucking genius and does not get the credit he deserves.
I know Tesla only due to Fallout 3. I'm ashamed.
I found out about him through Tesla Coils.
I don't need a fucking a history lesson on Nikola Tesla, the book on Fallout 3 already gave me the friggen' the energy weapon point.
Nikola Telsa was a fucking badass, he stand in league with Sir Isaac Newton, the deadliest son of a bitch in the universe.
Nikola Tesla is hardly forgotten anymore. He is just not given much credit for the badassery he accomplished. AND Edison can go fuck himself. Stupid prick.
> Mercury > Magnetic
Magnetism is effective on all materials by varying degrees. Some materials it affects with pretty negligible effects and others it has a huge influence over. Mercury is slightly diamagnetic at room temperature, meaning that it will be ever so slightly repulsed by a magnetic field, but cool it down so that it begins to superconduct and mercury becomes a strong diamagnet. Tesla was a brilliant man but was always overshadowed by Edison who had a more agressive approach to public relations and marketing. Edison even went so far as to electrocute elephants with alternating current to try and prove how much more dangerous it was compared to the 'safer' direct current. It's a shame that he was so shunned nearer the end of his life for ideas which were essentially just too far forward-thinking for his time (with the odd one or two which made no sense whatsoever).
He reminds me of geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci.
I didn't know that Edison was an ass.
Nikola Tesla also "teleported" energi from one side of a desert to the other, and we have still to figure out how he did it.
I don't need a fucking a history lesson on Nikola Tesla, the book on Fallout 3 already gave me the friggen' the energy weapon point.
if nikola was here today you would be being shot by a death ray
Nikola Tesla also "teleported" energi from one side of a desert to the other, and we have still to figure out how he did it.
how he did it maybe but we know how to do it regardless
I didn't say that we don't know how to do it. But he did it a long time before it was something we figured out how to do.
He had so much potential. He did so much for the world. He doesn't appear in a single textbook.
He made a great power armor.
Just because he was a massive genius doesn't mean he necessarily was great.
I didn't know that Edison was an ass.
Well that's because Edison and others attempted to (and somewhat succeeded in) writing Tesla out of the history books and "enhance" the truth about themselves and their accomplishments. In actuality most of these guys (Edison in particular) where Assholes.

The strong magnetic fields would affect the water in the English channel as well, plus every single piece of ferrous metal within several miles, including compasses. Plus if the mercury got into contact with the water then goodbye ecosystem.
Nikola Tesla also "teleported" energi from one side of a desert to the other, and we have still to figure out how he did it.
i swear there was a thread in the news section explaining how a scientist figured out how to teleport energy

If Tesla was more assertive with his inventions, we might've seen more of his work come to fruition.
Wow. The only thing I knew about Tesla before this thread was the Tesla Coil. I now regard him as the most badass inventor ever.

I don't get it, if it's available to easily create free electricity for all why hasn't someone done it? No country, no man in secret, no no one?
