I was very easily scared as a small kid.
The most egregious example I can remember was this one first person point and click adventure game called The Omega Stone - you know, one of those Myst-like games. The plot, as far as I can remember, was "oh my god guys the world's totally going to end in 2012".
There was one scuba diving area where I was too afraid to look around or go too far because I was afraid I would get lost. There was another part where I had to follow a stream in a jungle, but I couldn't make myself do it because I was afraid an alligator would pop up or something.
It's not even a horror game, hell as far as I know there aren't even any animals in it besides maybe fish. I don't remember if you ever actually see another person outside of FMVs.
Then again, I never even finished the game because I would get too scared to go forward in those few places.
All 2.5d first person shooters scared the shit out of me. and this eventually extended to all fps games. The fact that I could not see 360 degrees around my player at the same time made me extremely paranoid and terrified.
The Stop and Go station in Donkey Kong Country used to scare the shit out of me as a young kid. Something about the red lighting scared me but what I really hated were those Kremlings with the glowing eyes that you couldn't kill.
Still honestly makes me unsettled a bit

No longer scary but these Army Men game overs were damn brutal at times

I'd be surprised if anyone here has heard of this game before, but man did it really scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. You can just smell the late 80s in this video.
Playing this game at night, mixed with the music, and the freaky designs of some of the ghosts/monsters still haunt me to this day.
I believe I still own this somewhere in my basement, I really should try searching for it sometime

Trapped underground in a creepy tunnel with a path leading to god knows what shrouded by darkness.
Yeah fuck that my three-year-old self is switching to Pilotwings 64.
