As a reply to the push ups thing, every time I tried that my arms would sting and the next day they would burn, I did it everyday hoping that I would improve but I after a few days I found I couldn't do any more push ups at all
Haha yeah, I feel like hell though, bro. I don't really know how much farther I can go. Please tell me out of all the days the first is the worst, I really feel like I'm jumping into this headfirst. Hopefully after a few more days it won't feel as bad haha. I'll just keep thinking "I can do this"
Getting in shape is the worst part. But once you stop being sore and you plateau, you feel so much better.

Took me around a week and a half just to get to 10 pushups. Also, do swimming. Really helps with your chest. I was swimming for 4 days on holiday, when I came back, I could do 20 pushups easily, when before I could barely do 2. Just do sets of 3 or something. So you do 3, rest for a minute, do another 3, rest for a minute, then do another 3 or do as many as you can. That way you build yourself up quicker.
Thanks for your replies, guys. Now my confidence is a little higher
Thanks for your replies, guys. Now my confidence is a little higher
Keep at it mate. A few months back I was taking the gym and everything seriously. I felt great and I beat all my mates in wrestling or whatever easily (not wrestling sport, just random wrestling matches in the park or something). Felt great, looked great. It was awesome.

[editline]02:12AM[/editline] BTW what songs do you guys listen to when running, today I listened to
It was awesome?
I stopped. Went on holiday for 2 months (we got stuck abroad :v:). I wanted to take my weights, but my parents said I was being a dumbass (I'm 17, almost 18). Ended up doing fuck-all on holiday, other than sitting with friends in cafes or being pampered by my grandma and her gorgeous food (she hadn't seen me in a long time and we went to stay with her). So yeah, up until that point I was going to the gym 4 times a week with schoolmates. We'd all motivate each other and I felt awesome.
Awesome, thanks OP. Ever since Summer began I've been riding my bike around the neighborhood daily and I'm feeling better. I'm going to start running soon thanks to these tips. For running shoes, I prefer Nike Lunarswift; they're really lightweight and extremely comfortable. I remember last year when I decided to wear work boots (not for running, just daily use) and then when I put on my running shoes, I would run for about 20 seconds then my ankles would fucking hurt. After some looking up on the internet I found out that my muscles were being strained and whenever I would try to run my muscles were being strained even more (which could cause damage). According to the thing I read I just had to wear comfortable sneakers and walk instead of running. After about a few weeks my ankles were fine and I could run again without any problems. [editline]12:19AM[/editline] I'll post again when I have running results.
Yo what are some good foods for before you run? Like for breakfast if you're gonna run in the morning. Or should you not eat before you run? [editline]05:30AM[/editline] Also, do you think its good for me to run about a mile as quick as I can without killing myself, or run a lot longer, resting at intervals, etc?

[editline]05:30AM[/editline] Also, do you think its good for me to run about a mile as quick as I can without killing myself, or run a lot longer, resting at intervals, etc?
You can do a type of workout called interval training, which is pretty much what it sounds like. You run a certain distance, rest for an appropriate amount of time, and repeat. The advantage of this is that it keeps your heart rate high and the workouts are relatively short compared to an all out distance run. If you can find a track that you know the length of (presumably you do because you're running miles), a simple workout would be like 400m x 4 times at mile pace with an appropriate rest time.
I'm might start running. I need to increase my cardio. If I need to run from police or escape jail or something nuts, well by golly I need to be able to go through with it.
It doesn't work like that mate. Just cause you're losing 6000 calories, that's not all weight loss. If your daily intake is average around 2600, you doing excercise uses up 1200. So you'll lose weight, but not at 2lbs a week! Either way, it's a lot better than sitting and doing nothing. Keep it up :) [editline]02:27AM[/editline] Oh God. My phone died on me and I couldn't call for a pickup. The path I took: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Prospect+Rd/A259&daddr=Welson+Rd&geocode=FRJLCwMdup0QAA;FW1xCwMdPa4RAA&gl=uk&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=15&dirflg=w&sll=51.078131,1.150174&sspn=0.026342,0.066047&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15 And the last 1/3 of it is up hill. Surprisingly, I wasn't pissed. It was a really nice walk and I gotta do it again some time. No where near the 15km you walked though. It's only a quarter of that.
I don't consume 2600 calories, I only consume about 1600. And I drink 2l of water a day.
I was looking to get my ass of the computer, thanks for the tips!
I just ran a mile in 7 minutes, my pulse is 128 bpm, I feel like shit but I think I can do it again tomorrow... fuck my chest burns
Hahah that's pretty good.... My pulse goes to like 180 and I even run track so you're in pretty good shape
Would V8 Splash work? It's fruit and veggies in a drink.
If I walk for about 30 minutes every day (or every 2 days) is that enough for someone who has a weak bones and can't do much strenuous activity? :< I just want to stay the same sort of size I am now really but be a bit healthier. A bit of toning (just reducing fat no crazy muscle or anything) would be nice though. So I was wondering how much to do for that.
ITT: Nerds who think they're physically fit.
I literally started running yesterday. Got some running shoes and went out running through the woods mostly. Was pretty nice but made me realise I'm so unfit but that will get better as I keep going. I ache a lot today so waiting til tomorrow to go again (I also walked another 8 miles yesterday though). Even my abdomen has aches and my arms, it's crazy but good I suppose.
5. Take care of your body after your workout: When you get home, you must take a shower immediately without excuses. You will also feel better, after you take that stinky sweat off you.*
I prefer to wait a few minutes to cool off after training, your body temperature will stay up and you'll continue to sweat after the shower if you do it straight away - I think.:s
Just a small hint: The more expensive your running shoes, the shittier they are. Because of all the suspension and shit like that you are running in a style that's extremely bad for your joints (exaggeration of the heel in movement). There even have been studies in the mid 1970's where they showed that people running in "high-quality" running shoes are more likely to hurt themselves :) Also, don't run every day right off the scratch, you'll feel burnt out after some time if you really workout.
Anyone here who's a proper runner is it better to be running and landing on the balls of your feet? That's my understanding anyway
bodyweight exercises such as pressups pullups and situps are best for your body, all you will ever need. this covers pectoral abdominal and (to an extent your arms) traps/delts running longer distances works quads better, which are your upper legs/back of your legs, but squats also work most of your legs i am investing in a new bike soon to cover tens of miles of distance then recover, and do it again later in the same week. i also work with weights but i need to start on my bodyweight exercises again, lol
Situps suck at building abdominal strength - As well as running for leg strength D:
Anyone here who's a proper runner is it better to be running and landing on the balls of your feet? That's my understanding anyway
Most people I know do that, but it really depends on what feels natural. Some people just naturally land on their heels, some don't. Try running barefoot and see where you naturally land. Personally, I land on the forefoot with anything shorter than a mile, but on distance runs I have a midfoot plant.
Situps suck at building abdominal strength - As well as running for leg strength D:
then you aren't doing enough and you aren't running far enough

I walk 30 minutes a day anyway to get to school, plus the hours I spend with mates walking to town, going general places. Also, why do you have weak bones, and why can't you do strenuous activities? Sounds a bit pathetic to be honest, unless of course you have some serious disability.
http://hundredpushups.com/ It's really worth looking into. Helps greatly for beginners.
I'm damn skinny and I want to gain weight. I eat normally but still have hardly anything on me. Any help?

Also, I don't have to justify what is wrong with me to you. I cannot stand for even over 45 minutes without getting serious back pain which results in me not being able to stand it hurts so much and it has been that way since for as long as I can remember. Also, when did I ask you for your opinion of if it was an "excuse" or not? I was asking someone for some serious advice on just being a bit more healthy. The speed of my back pain depends on the activity I do and with walking it isn't so bad. My sister has the same issue and had to quit her entire career of nursing as our doctor said she would cause some serious permanent damage.
