Um no. North germanic languages differ in grammar significantly from south germanic languages such as english, dutch and german. That said, svenska är inte så svår att lära sig (swedish is not so difficult to learn).
Yeah but the main difference from english to swedish I can think of is the absence of the word "the" in swedish. There's none of that masculine and femenine shit the spaniards got going, swedish is pretty gender neutral and there's none of that german shit where there's twelve different words for the same things. Swedish grammar works by taking a word and adding lettersto the word before or or after the word itself to determine it's tempus and shit like that. bil = car bilen = the car bilar = cars min bil = my car mina bilar = my cars But as an englishman, knowing nothing of these grammatical rules, simply looking up the word for car in a dictionary will get you understood by any swedish person with half a brain. Oh, and english is taught very early in elementary schools here so something like 90% of all swedes understand english and most swedish youths speak it somewhat fluently due to the internet and games and shit.
Sorry but Swedish is actually known as a hard language to learn.
What? The point I was making to the person I was quoting was that is wasn't one of the easiest languages for an English person to learn so I don't know why you are telling me that instead of him. That said it's not exactly difficult, lots of words meaning the same thing doesn't make it very complex because in 95% of cases you can tell by the context or pronounciation.
There's the neutral and common genders - ett and en... "taking a word and adding lettersto the word before or or after the word itself to determine it's tempus and shit like that." May seem simple to you, but there are a LOT of combinations. There are like 7 or so different types of plural depending on the make up of the previous word, which can only really be perfected through experience, it's more complex than you realise as a swede.
I'll bet MY meatballs are bigger if you catch my drift :v:
I'm Swedish and I like both Norway and Finland better. The only good thing about this piece of shite known commonly as a country is Norrland (Northern Sweden).
isn't that söderhamn or something
There's none of that masculine and femenine shit .
En and Ett are probably harder to learn than masculine/feminine in Spanish, because there are really no rules to when you use them. (Although Spanish has plenty of exceptions to when you use el or la.) Not having to conjugate verbs for each person in Swedish is definitely nice though.
isn't that söderhamn or something
Yes it is Söderhamn. Have about half of my family there.
Sweden has more lakes, though
No they don't. Finland got more lakes, but only like a hundred or so. [editline]11:06PM[/editline]
No, no it isn't. About the most boring place on earth.
It's not boring? What's so boring about it?
Yes it is Söderhamn. Have about half of my family there.
ah, used to live there as a kid :)
We have around 180,000 lakes, Sweden doesn't even come close
Canada has at least three million that have been counted Canada wins again
Swedens area: 449,964 km2 Canadas area: 9,984,670 km2 Lakes per km2 in Sweden: 0.4 Lakes per km2 in Canada: 0.3 Area sources taken from wikipedia. Lake sources taken from the two posts above.
You didn't say anything about the world scout Jamboree, is anyone else going?
Big, Salty, Swedish balls... Do you have any vagetables? that was fucking horrible...
When my family is going to have meatballs, we travel to Sweden to buy some packages.
Why even bother to buy meatballs? They're pretty easy to make.
IKEA is a good place to start for your quest for meatballs
Or you make your own, which also makes it cheaper and tastier.
Just like I said. Just take some minced meat and roll som meatballs. Just like when you roll negroballs.
Just like I said. Just take some minced meat and roll som meatballs. Just like when you roll negroballs.
mmm, negerbollar
mmm, negerbollar
Åh vad jag blev sugen på negerbollar! Attans!
Hmm, let me see if i got this thread right, i wright something about Sweden, and Spetzaz tells me why Norway is better. I get it. Sweden invented Dynamite.
And the cursor, and the color monitor.
england also has a queen, and the netherlands too your point?
Monarchies are shit. [editline]03:29PM[/editline]
Canada has at least three million that have been counted Canada wins again
Canada is even more boring, and the people are twice as ugly. But you can count your lakes.
Monarchies are shit.
So are republics as well.
I roll my own meatballs :smug:
actually you cant determine a Swede and a British person speaking English.
Ehh... :frog:
Ehh... :frog:
An american can't mostly. There are always some who suck at english but the majority of the swedish population are really good and the swedish accent (depending on where in Sweden you live) is actually close to some various brittish dialects.
And Christopher Columbus did NOT discover America, Swedish Vikings did.
I answered this in the previous thread as well, and this is NOT true in any way, shape or form. The first man to SIGHT North America was a Norwegian man by the name Bjarni Herjólfsson. (Lol) The first man from Europe to go ashore in North America (They called it Vinland) was Leif Ericson, or as it was back then: Leifr Eiríksson. Leifr Eiríksson was NORSE and born in Iceland. Also Leifr's father was a man called Eiríkr inn rauði (Erik the Red, real name: Erik Thorvaldsson). Erik the Red was from western Norway. His mother was named Þjóðhildr
