Boys from the Dwarf [t]http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2012/10/redtopppp2.jpg[/t]
Red Dwarf is returning to UK screens very soon, with TV channel Dave releasing the first poster from the forthcoming series. The one-sheet – which can be seen below – reveals that the new series will commence at 9pm on Thursday, October 4th. Red Dwarf X will run for six episodes, with the titles as follows… 1 - Trojan 2 - Fathers and Suns 3 - Lemons 4 - Entangled 5 - Dear Dave 6 - The Beginning And it looks like the show will be screening simultaneously on PBS in the States, although that is yet to be confirmed. Whatever the case, we'll be reviewing the episodes here, so check back for further updates.
Smegging hell! Judging from the trailer shown a while back, it should be back on top form. Glad they haven't tried to spice it up with any modern bullshit, just good old Red Dwarf
I wish more old British classics would be revived, need some more Blackadder or Only fools and Horses or Yes Minister, all of what the Britian now call comedy is terrible apart from QI and Have I got news for you.
Throwing this clip up. It's a shame Peter Wragg passed away earlier this year. You can really tell on the DVD commentaries how much he was valued in the physical, visual effects department. Plenty of model shots, I hope.
That trailer makes the new season look alot more like pre Back to Earth Red Dwarf, I am looking forward to this.
Oh my fucking god that was perfect.
Kryten hasn't aged a day, look at that smooth skin, must be using botox.
This made my day.

Filmed in front of an audience, and with a plot that could have come from one of the earlier BBC Two series, the comeback for the Dave channel is a return to form. The first few minutes, though, are not the most promising. We start in the familiar Red Dwarf setting with Cat, resplendent in purple pimp suit, bounding in with a triumphant Yeaaa-h!’ to find Lister reading a book of strange-but true trivia. It prompts a cringeworthy exchange in which Cat has to be preternaturally stupid to get out some corny lines – and the viewer might be forgiven for thinking the franchise was better off dormant.

I won’t reveal any more of the plot – you’ll have to tune in to Dave at 9pm on October 4 for that. But there’s some space adventure, some funny character-led outbursts, a sly movie reference, and a generous smattering of funny lines, normally in the form of contrived metaphor. This is pretty much the cocktail which made Red Dwarf such a success in the first place. Writer Doug Naylor – one of the original creators – has overlooked some of the grander sci-fi concepts and ignored any over-complicated ways to tie up storylines with previous series to produce a standalone episode which serves as a useful reintroduction to the characters that’s accessible to those new to the Dwarf. We’re still missing deadpan computer Holly – as played by Hattie Hayridge or Norman Lovett – but there are guest roles for Mark Dexter and Susan Earl. There is no great reboot of the format, more of a back-to-basics approach, and all the better for it.
Review Two
Overall, there’s a lot of positives to be had in this episode, and I truly feel that we could be over the Red dwarf rough patch, and back to the magic of old. The opening credits look really exciting too, showing plenty of other spaceships, lots of explosions and general chaos amongst everyone’s favourite foursome, and I for one can’t wait to see the rest of the series.
I don't think anyone should rely on reviews especially when it comes to comedy.
I'd love a small season of The Young Ones but it probably wouldn't make much sense.
I know this is happening for Bottom: "On 23 August 2012 the BBC announced that Edmondson and Mayall's characters of Richie and Eddie would be returning in 2013 in Hooligan's Island, a television adaptation of their 1997 tour of the same name."
Will be watching! I've been watching most of the series on LoveFILM streaming
i just can't believe the bbc has a channel called DAVE
i just can't believe the bbc has a channel called DAVE
It isn't BBC, but they buy the rights to rebroadcast all the good BBC shows, Top Gear, Mock the Week etc, it used to be called UKTV if you ever heard of that.
FYI, Den of Geek report. Summary.
Because really, it does feel like a concerted effort has been made to take the show back to its early days. From the pleasingly Series 3-like appearance of the episode title to the small-scale, character-centric plot and barrage of jokes, you get the impression that Doug Naylor has been watching a lot of repeats on Dave whilst writing this new run, and that’s no bad thing. This is Red Dwarf as it should be; four blokes (Well, one bloke, a hologram, a cat person and an artificial intelligence) in space, with humour that comes not from an increasingly outlandish set of circumstances (There’s no dinosaurs on this ship) but from the characters themselves and how the situations they find themselves in affect them. It’s fun, it’s funny, and if we can have another five like this then Red Dwarf X (and beyond!) is going to be welcomed with open arms...
Its close now.
Its close now.
It's here. Where? Somewhere.
Just over ten minutes to go!
Yep it's back, very good!
That was a good episode. No Holly though.
Well I really enjoyed that.
Was excellent, started off a little dry but then I found myself laughing plenty throughout. Norman Lovett doesn't want to return to Red Dwarf after being 'mistreated' by Grant Naylor Productions, which is unfortunate. He might change his mind if the rest of series X remains as good as the first ep, I hope at least.
Started awkward, got better, became awesome. Really happy so far.
I absolutely loved it
fucking fabulous
Ok, I'm gonna post what I put up on the red dwarf forum earlier After first watching: Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, but not new to Red Dwarf. I've Been following the show for years now, and I've meditated on the dvd boxsets many, many times. I've been so excited for this series ever since I heard they were making it, and I've been hankering for an explanation ever since the end of series 8. I liked this first episode. If you think about it, it had to have been hard to write. You go away for a few years, and the audience are going to hone in on those old episodes so tightly, because it's all they have to watch. Everyone is going to develop their own very personal view of what should come next, so how are you going to please all for them? It felt like this episode was half way between a resurrection for the fans, and an open start for new viewers, which is probably exactly what they intended. But I had a few gripes with the actual plot that I wanted to mention here. Why no supply inventory? At the start of every other series, we've pretty much been told whatever smeggy situation the crew is in. This was done best at the start of series 4, when Lister woke up from cryo-sleep and had to cut his fingernails with a pencil sharpener. In this new ep, the situation wasn't really set up, so I was constantly looking for clues to explain what their situation was, making the jokes pass me by a little. I'm saying this is mainly my fault, but I think an opportunity was missed to get humour out of the crew making fun of each other for being in a bad situation (classic red dwarf). Imagine if, say, the episode had started out with Lister cat and Kryten having to re-boot Rimmer from an old backup, because he had blown out another light bee due to stress. Cat could have made some jokes about 'why do we want to turn him back on anyway?' Lister could have tried to explain why, then looked confused when he couldn't find an answer 'well... we... actually, why DO we have to, kryten?', then kryten could have explained why. They could have then explained their situation to us, the audience, in having to explain things to Rimmer. We would then have had at least for a small bearing on their situation. This more intense Rimmer focus could have lead them them to insultingly reminding him of what kind of person he is, making him once again focus on his self hate. explaining the freeze-screen better, and giving new viewers a better idea of why he really needed to fake being a captain in front of his brother (because he is such an utter Smeg-head). Another thing: stimulants. In Red Dwarf, stimulants have always been considered 'evil'. Now, I know there was a time in the past were stimulants served humans, then got fed up and rebelled, but the crew have always famously been fighting stimulants throughout the entire history of the show. Why are they so unaffected by Rimmers brother being accompanied by a sim? I mean, not even a 'OH SMEG, SHE'S GOING TO KILL US!' reaction when they find out she is a sim, then them being surprised when she doesn't attack. Imagine if the quantum rod had actually connected Rimmer and his brother over time and space, and brought Rimmer's brother and the sim from the past, before the sims turned evil. It would have been a good opoutunity for a joke when they had the gun pointed at them Lister: Kryten, what year did you say the stimulants turned against humans? Kryten: 18092, sir Lister: and what year did you say they had came from? Kryten: 1800.. and... ah, yes. I see what you're getting at, sir. are they in the past? how come red dwarf hasn't been eaten by the microbe? I mean, i'm ok with these questions being unanswered, as long as they are hinted at enough, just to pacify the people who'd like to know, until they're ready to explain them. Sorry for the text wall, I just wanted to get that out and see if anyone agreed/had other ideas or problems. A lot of these questions will probably be answered later in the series. After watching the ep three more times: It was fantastic. Anyone that read my first review earlier in this thread can take those negative thoughts as a result of excitement/nervousness. Watching the ep again a few times has made me come to appreciate it. The fact that they aren't alarmed there's a stimulant on board doesn't bother me as much, and the fact they don't explain anything doesn't bother me anymore either. On first watch, some of the jokes felt forced. Now i think this was just me forcing myself to enjoy the jokes, instead of just letting them be funny. The writing felt like it was getting back to old dwarf for me now. And I'm really looking forward to the coming episodes. If this first ep hasn't really made you smile, i suggest watching it another couple of times. One thing that does concern me is the ships computer in the next episode. Why are her head and shoulders on screen?? I mean, I'm all for some queeg throw back, but please no neck and shoulders.
I really enjoyed that episode, and how Lister is willing to die to answer the phone :v:
loved every second of it, i just hope it carries on like so.
