Why shouldn't I use gloves? They just prevent scratches on my hands.
which you won't get as your hands toughen up
deal w/ it
also
Also, most experienced traceurs will say that gloves are generally a bad thing because you lose the feeling of actual contact with the wall and it generally isn't as effective. So unless you have a condition in your hands where you need to where gloves(Which I actually do if it gets too cold...), then I reccommend training without gloves, sometimes it's also good to train barefoot on the occaision.
It's not like my skin is gonna become stone. I'd still get scratches if I try to climb up a wall.
Parkour, the art of making yourself move like you're 90 when you're 40. Knees aren't bloody trampolines you damn hooligans.
Yes, using your body the way it was intended (moving) is bad.

The skin on your hands build callouses and strengthen as you do it more and more. I'm sure you've heard of it, but the monks that train in China for Gung Fu use methods such as punching a stone wall, or rubbing their hands on spiked things.
Great thread, this has inspired me to get out there and do some neat jumps! Thanks man.

this. i never get scratches on my hands or anything any more
''Why make a another parkour thread''
And no, the whole point of free running is too look fancy. Parkour is actually some ''get to where you need to be as fast as possible'' kinda thing.
No. They way to get somewhere as fast as possible is to fly. Your excuse for being an attention whore fails.
And Mizzermike is wrong. The Vibram Five Fingers Flow is the best Parkour "shoe".

This is true. It's just like playing the guitar. The more you play, the harder and stranger your fingers become. My dad plays the guitar and his fingers are solid...well...very hard =D
EDIT: This thread mustn't die! It's great for those who are interested in it and we may have new members build a new thread about it. Best to keep this one then having two of them.
If I weren't a skinny white nerd I could do that.
Most of the people I know that do parkour are skinny white nerds.
Most of the people I know that do parkour are skinny white nerds.
Well...what a coincidence haha

planes
cost money, so fuck that.
I'm lucky- I'm near a large park with a playground, a skate park with everything, and a massive forest :))
and i live in england :D
protip- i have a river near me too, and i use that to practice jumps and it goes up a bit, so wallruns/jumps. so use the river to be pro :3:
I didn't mean to offend you, but this is pointed to the Facepunch audience, not the average joe.
As much as I respect your knowledge and advice at parkour, knowing what some people on facepunch would do, this is for their own good.
No matter what good intentions you had when posting that, you're still wrong. It seems like you're trying to give the members of FP an eliteist view of parkour.
You can be a fat white nerd and be able to pull of half the vaults you listed without any training and the only reason they wouldn't be able to do the others would be mental barriers. Starting parkour is the easiest thing ever, being good at parkour is really hard. Before you know how to completely control your body being able to do 100 push ups is useless, being able to suck your own dick is great for flexibility, but it can't help you before you know how to vault. You need to know how the movements feel, if you want to be seriously good at parkour you do need to go to gyms and condition at home, but for people wanting to try parkour your advise is b/s.

I think both of you are making good points.

Look, the op is changed.
The bad advice is gone.
Now let's just drop this.
after reading this my mates and I decided to try it for the laugh, you don't need any fancy training or preparation! just get out and give it a go. out of myself, my friend that works out and my asian friend I was the only one that could wall run (using the info from the OP) and I'm a skinny white nerdy kid!!
I've always thought Traceurs and Parkour as a whole seemed too flashy.
[editline]08:30PM[/editline]
Free running too.
I've been training a lot, getting in shape, hitting up the gym. I've been thinking about giving parkour a try, seems fun. Plus where I live the cops don't give a shit about it.

It's cool how this thread has inspired so many people to give this a go. Even I wanna give it a go but a crappy park isn't very good -_-
They should have Parkour parks.
One of the best threads on face punch right here.
They should have Parkour parks.
^This is an awesome idea^
I hate being in the country. God, not being able to do this is annoying me to no end.
I would love to take some photos of Parkour in action, but I don't think anyone in Washington does it.
They should have Parkour parks.
There's actually a Parkour park being built in Texas.

Washington as in Washington DC?
Where've you been living, under a rock?
DC has the first Parkour gym, Primal Fitness.

One thing I hate about San Francisco is that cops will either warn/arrest you for, "Danger to self and others."
A+ thread my freind, parkour is an awesome sport.
Strangley enough, the kid who's doing the speed vault looks like me, he even dresses like me :/
