How many cars do you have that don't have to sit a traffic lights while we run right past all of you, don't forget this is for an urban enviornment.
in the minute it takes for a light to change to green you will be at point B?
in the minute it takes for a light to change to green you will be at point B? Also people who are really in to this scare me
I can't really answer that, because I have no idea where point B is, but it could very well be. What do you consider really into it? And how do they scare you?
I wonder if David Belle ever went to jump from building to building and didn't make it.
Although I'm in bad shape, (7.5 on the beep test) I still attempt parkour/ish moves, a few vaults here, climbing a wall there, just to take a shortcut, I live in suburban area made up of housing estates, they're a bitch to walk around, so we try to climb around a bit. I haven't vaulted much stuff lately since I tried a speed vault with a bag on my back, but one of my feet got caught between the bars of the fence and I fell flat on my face.
I wonder if David Belle ever went to jump from building to building and didn't make it.
He once fucked up a simple vault and almost killed himself.
Parkour is neat but I dislike the parkour "scene" that surrounds the sports, ie. "flips are not parkour" and "parkour vs. free running/etc alternative names" and other stupid elitist views that cripple the atmosphere of the hobby with their omnipresent effect on almost every single traceur I've met. There's a few handful of those smart ones who don't care or are too tired of all that jazz. It's ridiculous how far people take the somewhat philosophic approach to the sport in order to seem smart. I did parkour for about three years, but have since started doing tricking as a full-time hobby. Not because of the parkour society's atmosphere in my town or in general, I think they'd be ignorable if I had some good company to parkour with, but because tricking fits me more, I like fancy tricks, flips and kicks etc.
I wonder if David Belle ever went to jump from building to building and didn't make it.
Oh come on, nobody makes every jump, i'm sure he's fallen plenty of times and isn't afraid to admit it.
I can't really answer that, because I have no idea where point B is, but it could very well be. What do you consider really into it? Parkour is really cool and I'd love to get started with it except everything around here is flat road and trees. Kinda boring.
Parkour is really cool and I'd love to get started with it except everything around here is flat road and trees. Kinda boring.
your a fucking dargon. just fly
(Psst. You missed Monkey Vault. :D And don't forget to show the difference between Monkey Vault and Kong Vault). I like how detailed this thread was. And I'm happy someone bothered to properly explain the difference between Freerunning and Le Parkour. I got confused between them alot. Only things I have to say are; I'm asthmatic. I can probably run about 2 miles before collapsing. I'm built to be stronger upper body than lower body (broad, long arms etc). So I'd be relatively good at this. I'm also flexable. The beep test thing (12-14) I disagree with. If I can run for 3/4 of an hour straight and only get 6 in a bleep test (More or less due to breathing rather than fitness) I don't quite 12-14 is nessicary. Last I heard 10 was for a cop. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.) And 15 was Marines (In England anyway.) Enough on the beep test. I mentioned earlier that I'm flexible. I'm not sure if you mentioned flexability (I don't think you did) in your Opening Post. You would have to relatively flexible to accomplish some of the tricks and jumps shown on this thread. Critisizm: - Monkey Vault. - Palm Spin. - I would explain in your thread the amount of time and practice it takes to be able to do some of those stunts, when I first heard of Parkour and Freerunning I jumped straight in. Twisted my ankle and broke a finger. Haha. Not wise. Also worth a mention would be filming. Everyone loves a good bit of filmed Parkour or Freerunning. But make sure it looks good. Don't try to do snazzy shit to impress the camera. Use parkour, not freerunning. Set up a course, not actually build it, I mean choose a starting posisition and a finishing posisiton. Grab a few people and make it a race. Throw in some rules like they can't run straight for more than "x" amount of time. (Judging on length of said course). (Would also be quite nice to see some of those old Japanese movies. With the awesome gravity defying effects. During fight scenes. Also the Matrix :P. May seem stupid but It would probably show the more media-istic side of Freerunning and Parkour) If I can think of anything else I'll give it a mention.
Oh yeah, Ashwee probably saved you all a bit of pain, before doing this, stretch and you'll be a lot better off, and everyone loves being more flexible.(Touch your toes baby....)
Ah yeah. Warm up and warm down, you'll regret it other wise :)
I know basic Parkour 101 but what I want is a trainer someone who knows it and I can practice with.
I'd practice with you, I know a fair bit. I just doubt you live anywhere near me :P
I'd practice with you, I know a fair bit. I just doubt you live anywhere near me :P
Calgary, Alberta Nah we aren't too close :(
God damnit, I thought those Xuvia's were for sale, but they're just a concept. FFfff.
Ah...We're.. Quite far:( Dammit. I have 2 mates on Facepunch (Krispy_Kunt and Pippeh) who are gonna practice with me in the summer. Gonna treat it more as a hobby and something to do rather than anything else, we'll see how it goes. :D
I wouldn't mind doing something like this, it looks rather fun. Too bad I just don't live in an Urban enviornment. I suppose I could jump from cow or cow or something.
Then there's the whole issue of sitting on your PC roleplaying all day Builds manly leg muscles I'm sure

But I stand behind my beep test score, because if you want to get there as FAST as possible using all the nessecary techniques you might get tired and make a fatal mistake if you aren't fit enough. However, I certainly agree on Flexibility, Warm ups/Cool Downs and Streching. I Learned a lot about that when I was taking Kung-Fu, and it makes a HUGE difference.
Same with my Karate man, it was pretty crap in terms of self diffence, but it taught me about breathing (ooh mention that too :D) and fitness. I'm off to bed. Class thread. G'night.
helicopters
i knew someone was gonna say that
Arm Jump is also known as the Cat Leap.
ok, so i JUST started doing this today. Today I climbed: on the roof of my house on to our deck. the deck was harder to get to, the roof was pretty simple, I ran up to the fence, did a muscle-up to get on top of it, walked across the top of it and jumped from there to a shed, using the arm-up or w/e it's called, then from there did another muscle up onto the roof of our house (PS it's an awesome view, it's like 3 stories up) The deck was a bit trickier, it was all about muscle ups. here's a reference picture while I explain: I started out by running up and jumping off of support 1 and grabbed onto support 2. Then I did a muscle up and had to grab onto the railing to keep people from falling off (number 3), then i had to pull myself up with just my arms and go over the railing, success! I just went up like 18 feet. Then i realized the door was locked leading to the second floor of our house and so i had to go back down the same way. Now my arms hurt cause i suck at this. I also jumped off the end of the roof of our house, it hurt quite a bit, need to work on landing, i was scared to jump the first time, but then i was like "fuck you mind" and i just jumped. Scared me shitless (not really though) scraped my hand on the pavement below because i didn't have gloves. I then measured how high i jumped from and it was 12 feet. all in all i'm pretty proud of myself.
am i saying the right terms i don't know them too well, i just looked at the pictures in the OP and said what i thought the picture was that i did
also, what's the tallest height you can jump from without risking severe injury? (onto concrete)
also, what's the tallest height you can jump from without risking severe injury? (onto concrete)
Depends on you + how you roll
am i saying the right terms i don't know them too well, i just looked at the pictures in the OP and said what i thought the picture was that i did
You were good. Nice way to start off. But forget, if in doubt, roll.
You were good. Nice way to start off. But forget, if in doubt, roll.
fuckin scared of trying to roll on concrete
This is cool shit, but I'd be worried about busting out some teeth.
