Buy those trainers, become Faith.
Mirror's Edge is actually what got me interested in this. :P
I'd probably need to hit the gym for 8 weeks before I could try even the most basic stuff, but that doesn't stop me from wanting a pair of red xuvias. *huge ass image*
Actually, those don't have a very good arch, so unless it's thin soled, it's not the best for landing jumps.
Why would you want thin soles for landing? So the shoe can curve?
Why would you want thin soles for landing? So the shoe can curve?
Yeah, if the shoe deosn't have an arch, the impact is spread badly. No arch is fine, It's just that one is recommended. And from what I've heard, you don't have to actually get Parkour shoes, just lightweight ones with good grip. But some things are better than others (thin soles, arches, sole is basically one piece, etc. )
Why would you want thin soles for landing? So the shoe can curve?
As well as being more flexible, a thin sole encourages you to learn good technique. A thick sole will generally give you more cuishioning and you won't feel the pain if you don't land right. This can have really bad consequences when you get to more dangerous movements.

i don't think this was asked but how would you recommend practicing flips on the ground? I was on the dive team so i kind of have some idea to start. i just don't know how to get over the fear of eating it/ landing properly since i'm only used to landing in water

You could also try to get your own. You could also try a crappy trampoline that doesn't bounce you high but is a soft(er) landing. That would get you used to flipping and hitting something solid.
http://www.youtube.com/user/AmericanParkour#play/user/E6C8E80F16748AAA APK's Practical Parkour contest, check some of these out if you're the type to sit there and think, "That's fucking useless."

It just freaks me the fuck out. I'll just have to man up i guess. Are front flips or back flips easier?
I love doing parkour, but the only problem is when you get hurt. Back when I first started doing this 3 years ago, I really got hurt by trying to do a dash vault over a pole. The fall was a bit scary, because I thought I'd break a bone.
I actually practice at a university so i already can do some fancy stuff on the trampoline and the mats. I don't know, man. It just freaks me the fuck out. Are front flips or back flips easier?
Well, your body falls backwards more naturally, so a backflip would be easier physically, but if you get paranoid about not seeing where your going or get in the "I'm gonna break my neck" mindset, you'll do horribly. Front flips are a bit harder, and you need more height and speed (at least for me), but most people don't freak out at the going forwards thing. I used to be great at backflips, for some reason now I'm scared to hurt myself and can't do them. Yet I can front flip high and fast, and even "sideflips" and twistflips. This is all on a trampoline though, I'm not gonna take it to the ground. One last thing, flips technically go into "freerunning", but it's okay, Parkour and freerunning are so similar, keeping them grouped together is simpler.
Yeah, back flips and reverse flips are a lot easier on diving as well. I just need to practice more on the mat and then maybe try it on grass. One of my friends is kind of into this stuff so i'll see if he can help too. Thanks for the help, man. Also, @ OP very well made thread.
Can anyone in this thread do a double-jump?
Whoa my thread came back from the dead.
Can anyone in this thread do a double-jump?
The tic-tac jump from one wall to another? I probably couldn't <_< Also, TC (Thread creator, Topic Creator ), And freerunning in the topic title.
Oh another parkour thread? Okay. My opinion though: I can sprint for a very long distance, but you know what? I'll just take a bike or bus. Enough of this ''oooh look at my FENCE JUMPING SKILLS''. Mirrors edge was great, so was assasins creed (sorta) but i'm getting the feeling it's starting a fad that will only end with broken bones. But hell, you put a lot of effort into this at least.
You cant sprint if theres shit in your way man Thats when parkor kicks in
The tic-tac jump from one wall to another? Once you've got that down, it's cake. [editline]03:34PM[/editline]
Oh another parkour thread? Okay. My opinion though: I can sprint for a very long distance, but you know what? Parkour is just another way of moving. You don't call stairs dumb just because you might slip and fall.
Goodbye cellphone! I wonder if he found it...
I'm told so :P
Anyone else notice the "A A" under each thtead?
If I weren't a skinny white nerd I could do that.
If I weren't a skinny white nerd I could do that.
I'm a skinny white nerd and I can do it.
Agh, I hate my friends on the subject of parkour, they think free running and parkour are the exact same thing and the only free running they do (They can't parkour because their mind can't seem to figure out the difference) is just jumping over bins and a jump off the wall, they jump over the same bin 50 times failing half the time and then jump off a wall once because they have no intention of going further than this and the fact they know nothing else. God I can't them when talking about parkour.
I'm a skinny white nerd and I can do it.
Wait, who rated me disagree? You don't have to be bulky to do this. I've got strong legs, I'm just lacking in the upper body.
The Art of Movement? I hate it when people go "The Art of X," where X will be something usually pathetic and easily learned. In this case, how is dicking around on rooftops and having no fear of being assfucked by gravity called art? It's called having decent balls and a non-shithouse body, but anybody with a right body can do it. Not everyone can draw. See the difference?

I just don't live in an urban area and have no where to do this D:
Wish I could do this, but I'm too fucking big :(
