I cut soda and lost 20 pounds over the course of 6 months with zero exercise. shits bad for your health yo.
Juice and squash (Cordial for Americans) are just as tasty so I drink that
Everything is bad for me, apparently.
I think most people know it's bad for them.
Same with booze. But that doesn't stop people from drinking till they die from poisoning.
No fucking way
i think you guys should drink soda a lot less
Its really unhealthy
three times a week is ok
but 3 cans every day?
I used to have 2L of boost (32mg/100g of caffeine) everyday, now I've stopped having caffeine altogether. I was stupid. I much prefer the occasional root beer or mountain dew now.

It rots your teeth. And makes them more sensitive. Why? Soda has the same pH level as Vinegar, 2.5. pH level measures acidity. Dr. Elson Haas, famous health author, says “Tooth loss, periodontal disease, and gingivitis can be problems, especially with a high phosphorus intake, particularly from soft drinks.” It also dissolves enamel.

Stop drinking this shit
So I'm now 320% more likely to become obese than I was yesterday? And 320% more likely than the day before ect.?
By friday, I'll have increased my risk of obesity by 1600% from monday.
And since I have two sodas a day monday to friday every week, I must be in the tens of thousands by now.
Oh wait, I'm severly underweight.
I'll stop drinking it when the world goes under.
ham stop shitposting
Are you seriously trying to deny the fact that pop is terrible for you?
I'm not fat at all, how is that possible.
how many damn times do I have to post this? You are not overweight because you are a teenager. By drinking lots of soda you are building up insulin resistance, so as soon as your youth disappears, you will gain a ton of weight.

it's a good thing I'm not older then huh
unless soda has some magical dimension-altering time-travelling side effects I sincerely doubt a soda I drink in the teens will affect me in my 20s but hey, you read it in a dentist magazine didn't you? guess that proves it
But dude...
Coke, man.
COKE

Can't fucking live without it.

It rots your teeth. And makes them more sensitive. Why? Soda has the same pH level as Vinegar, 2.5. pH level measures acidity.
Actually, I measured the acidity of red bull, kick, lucozade and other such drinks. They're all above 3.5
Dr. Elson Haas, famous health author, says “Tooth loss, periodontal disease, and gingivitis can be problems, especially with a high phosphorus intake, particularly from soft drinks.” It also dissolves enamel.

Cool, phosphorus. This should be interesting when I do a flame test on the residue later this year.

It takes calcium from your bones. Dr. Michael Murray, from the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, concluded, “It appears that increased soft drink consumption is a major factor that contributes to osteoporosis.” Your bones break more easily too.

I don't believe that for a second. Plus, drink milk to replenish the calcium if it is actually true?

It weakens your immune system.

This is the only credible claim so far. Ingesting simple sugars (mainly sucrose) does quickly lower the immune system.

Dr. Marion Nestle, also famous health author, states, “The relationship between soft drink consumption and body weight is so strong that researchers calculate that for each additional soda consumed, the risk of obesity increases 1.6 times.” You don't want that, do you?

I drink shitloads of such drinks, and am underweight. Though, the sugar intake from it can cause weight gain in the long term if you have an awful diet combined with it.

Diet soda is worse. The aspartame in them produces methanol in your bloodstream, and if you drink too much it's very dangerous.

I've never learned much about aspartame, but I think you'd need to drink a good 10-20 litres a day to get those effects.

Caffeine is addicting and has really bad withdrawal symptoms. Tests at John Hopkins university found that people suffering from withdrawal had not only headache, but also fatigue, mild depression, muscle pain and stiffness, flu-like feelings, nausea and vomiting.

In an average energy drink, there is around 300mg of caffeine. That's quite a lot. In other drinks (coke, fanta, irn bru) there's only tiny amounts. Not enough to get you hooked.
Stop drinking this shit
No. Instead I'll continue drinking it while analysing it for my advanced higher chemistry investigation.

you made this shitty post 3 pages back. Insulin resistance, which is what results from having a high-sugar diet (and pretty much any diet in which a person regularly drinks soda is a high-sugar diet), is a condition that persists in the body. When it's taken to the extreme it results in Type-2 Diabetes, which is incurable. It's true: people who have far too much sugar in their diets for an extended period of time can give themselves a medical condition that will stay with them for the rest of their life, even if they change their diet later. It's not "magic", it's established biology, something that you clearly don't know anything about. It's how the human body works.
[editline]12th January 2011[/editline]
i mean, I actually know what I am talking about because I have taken the time to gain a basic understanding of how the human body works. "You read it in a dentists magazine" isn't a rebuttal or a counter-argument; it's crap.
Soda is the only reason why I am still alive, fuck off.
Posting is bad for you and you should stop doing it.

so despite having a perfect BMI and running track AND cross country I'm just going to pop open a coke one day and BAM DIABETES
no, I don't think that is how the human body works

a several-soda-a-day habit, like many people in this thread have, will cause some significant degree of insulin resistance regardless of a person's physical activity level, yes. Don't reduce it down to "IF I DRINK A COKE I DIE, THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE SAYING", that's a childish way to argue.
Soda hurts my throat. :frown:

ITT No one has enough willpower to stop drinking soda. I agree it's tasty but I can control myself and force myself not to drink it even if someone offers me to.
Milk and Water is where it's at bitches. Healthy and pretty much essential for a bodybuilder.

I drink milk, water and soda every day and I have no ill side-effects from it, why should I bend over backwards for what someone on FP says when half of it is bullshit and the other half doesn't apply to me
