Facepunch is the first, only and probably last internet forum I will ever consider joining. There's nothing quite like it. (Besides SA, but that shit's expensive.)
also tons of elitism with post dates, post counts, gold/non-gold, reputation, etc.
This hasn't been the case since 2009.
It was already on its way out by the time I entered this forum
also tons of elitism with post dates, post counts, gold/non-gold, reputation, etc.
I feel like the date elitism has been heavily reduced last years. Facepunch has a lot of new members especially with Rust.
Although people all wanted to be gold to have access to a Rust key.
I know I haven't been here for long, but during my experiences here (as in; lurking and posting every so often) I have noticed that this forum seems pretty normal, for the most part.

Oh dear, it's one of these people, quarantine yourself, for the good of the rest of us.
If you stay out of SH, news mode, fast threads, the forum is pretty good. I kind of prefer something awful though because there's a lot more useful information on various hobbies and it's gotton me to try many different things.
edit: holy shit i started scrolling through /pol/ and I found

There's a different feel in these forums than other forums, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a good thing for sure.
Sure, people can be assholes and idiots, but assholes and idiots are everywhere no matter what.
Something Awful is too militant with the rules for me, it's like trying to memorize an entire legal code to avoid probations there. Granted, I haven't posted much there, and haven't even gotten probated yet, but some of their reasons for probations and bans should find a place in 'strangest forum rules of all time.'
I can't say anything about Facepunch at present, since I've only been a longtime lurker here.

I honestly expected date elitism to explode with all the new members.
Though I still wish gold was only given to those who have been here for X amount of years with Y amount of posts.
Garry changed it to where you can buy it a few weeks after I got it and it just killed my joy at being awarded it for being here for such a time.
Yeah I do agree with you. It was a nice touch earning the title instead of actually paying for it. I still remember when people bitched about 09'ers and so on. I seldom saw join date elistm that much except for Rust which is fairly normal because tons of people joined only wanting a key.

I wish there were a way to tell the difference between the three gold members, the ones who were earned it in the beginning, the ones who were awarded it for being veterans, and the dumbasses who actually paid money for it :v:
I earned it :v:

I haven't gotton any probations on SA, and I pretty much post the same as I do on facepunch.

Were you legitimately unable to figure out what he meant?
Yes clearly.

It kind of leans towards trolling, but the second sentence kind of makes me think it's not, because that is what someone in that mindset would legitimately say.
And are you sure, we've got justin bieber for example who said that rape is a message from god or something along the lines.
Facepunch seems to have a (slightly)higher standard than most other message boards. No retarded posts, memes, ect. Most people are used to the lower-standard chatroom-style forums.
Yeah, this is probably my favorite part about this forum. We're more neat and tidy than the average forum, which even though it still allows for a fair share of retards, for the most part makes people think things through before they post.
I must say I still miss the Smartness system a bit though. It dramatically improved my English grammar and spelling and made me always one of the top students in English class (In Sweden, not sure how well I'd fare in a natively English speaking country). That, and posts written in proper English rather than fast and sloppy are always far more pleasing on the eyes.
I still notice those cliché grammatical mistakes, such as putting an apostrophe before the s in a plural word.

Your English is probably better than mine, and it's certainly better than my Swedish. I wouldn't worry.

The worst one is improper use of it's. it's = it is, or a possessive. Even our constitution (USA) has this mistake.
No State shall, without the Consent of the Congress, lay any Imposts or Duties on Imports or Exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing it's inspection Laws: and the net Produce of all Duties and Imposts, laid by any State on Imports or Exports, shall be for the Use of the Treasury of the United States; and all such Laws shall be subject to the Revision and Controul of the Congress.
It baffles me how many people spell alot instead of a lot and noone instead of no one.
it's inspection Laws
The inspection laws belonging to it.
It's completely correct.
It baffles me how many people spell alot instead of a lot and noone instead of no one.
People who follow "no one" or "none" with a plural pronoun is something that's pretty common too.

"its" is the possessive form.
possessives don't have to have apostraphes, we don't say hi's do we?

Thinking this way about "alot" has helped me a lot :v:

Because you get banned or bombarded with dumb ratings if you put any sort of text emoticon like XD or :-), which makes people think that facepunch is full of uptight people with a stick up their ass. You can't make a random thread or post image macros without being banned either and there's people who like to act all "LEL SO RANDUMB" that end up talking down about the site to everyone they see when they're banned. I know there was one guy named 404 or something who got banned from facepunch and used to call it a shit-hole and had an anti-facepunch avatar on other sites after being banned. Not sure if it's that guy though, or someone else.
also here's an old video that's somewhat relevant

I don't understand the hate towards memes, they can be funny if used correctly. Yeah they get annoying if people overuse them but from what I've seen as soon as someone uses one they get a ton of dumbs.
Do people have a reason for hating memes besides them being banable?

They get overused within the month. Always,

One of my friends has a million doge gifs on his phone, and whenever I send him something I get one as a reply. The dog is cute though so I can't hate too much.
