For some reason this thing get's me filled up with child like wonder at the possibilities you could create using amatuer electronics/ programming.
Would several of these things hooked up together somehow be suitable for server hosting?
I'm not so linux savvy

Not really, given the limited resources and odd CPU architecture. It would work for a local server of some type (fileserver, seedbox, etc.), but you might run into some issues. Just get an old desktop/laptop or something off of someone and use that. Should be really cheap or even free given how people treat old hardware these days.
[editline]11th January 2012[/editline]
Heck, just by chance I have an old desktop sitting unused in the other room and a laptop with a broken screen in the closet. Aside from one issue with an easy workaround in each, I have no issues with either.
Everyone wondering about order limits, from the FAQ page:
How many can I buy in one go?
For the first batch we are limiting orders to one per person. This restriction will be relaxed as production gets in to full swing, and we can be sure of getting boards to all who want them. This should prevent (to some extent) Ebay scalping, and ensure as many different individuals as possible get their Raspberry Pi!

I'm not surprised, the CPU in this thing is only about half as fast as a 100Mhz 486, but playing H.264 video can use the hardware decoder, letting the CPU do nothing.
So, err, this looks all fine and dandy, but would there be any chance to install Steam on it so I could chat with my friends?
There might be ways to put steam on it, but I'm sure it would shit itself..

Your only hope:
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1057523
BUT you'll need to compile it for the platform (ARM) and distro of choice (probably Debian or Arch)

Well, steam worked on my 900 mhz PC, so I was wondering.

Well, that looks quite promising, but I don't know anything about Compiling.
Damn, paid 950 pounds for the beta Raspberry Pi and then donate it to the Museum of Computers.

Pretty sure there are some Steam chat clients for Linux you could use.

Can this awesome device be used as a USB device somehow? So it would appear as a memory stick/mouse/keyboard/joystick to another device it's plugged into.
He'll just have to pick a USB WiFi stick which has a chipset where the driver is incorporated into the kernel.
Meaning basically every USB WiFi adapter ever.
Even the BCM43XX shit has open-source drivers in mainline nowadays.
Since this can run andriod could it be possible to buy a replacement IPod 4 screen and attach it so that you have some sort of touch capable interface?
www.pocketsteam.com would work
I'm not saying that it's not legit or anything, but I don't think I would ever put my steam username and password into anything but steam itself...
There's too much at stake.

Can always just host your own version, as the code is @ https://github.com/azzymaster/pocketSteam

Me and my 12 other steam friends are using it since it was open for everyone
[editline]12th January 2012[/editline]
Also, SteamGuard
I have no idea what I'll use it for, but I'm gonna get a Raspberry Pi anyway, simply because it's really awesome. I'm toying with the idea of using it for writing + running audiovisual demoscene stuff.

When I try to login, it tells me something like "pockerSteam is offline".
[editline]12th January 2012[/editline]
It says "RETURN: pocketSteam offline TIM1" :ohdear:

Dohoho,
I logged in using my alt, and it shows my main as being offline although I'm currently logged in. :v:

And the fucking TIM error is back.

The wireless N D-Link adapter I own doesn't.
Not even on the latest kernel as of late December 2011 when I last checked.
Guess that's what I get for buying the cheapest brand-name non-draft adapter :saddowns:

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but this is exactly what I want one for.

this seals the deal for me, if it can play DVD quality videos, some music and show pictures it's the perfect media center.
I'm interested in if it can run Minecraft, but probably not due to RAM limitations

For a incredible price of 25$/35$ + when you get bored you can more fun shit with it
Jesus christ I'm getting one and plugging my Wireless USB thing into it
I'm interested in if it can run Minecraft, but probably not due to RAM limitations
Probably not due to RAM, CPU, GPU and anything else this device has. In other words, don't even think about it.
I'm sure the GPU would be fine, but the CPU and RAM would just be ruined by it.
Still can't wait. Maybe UT2K4 will work on it?

Welp, I know that Quake III works on it, but UT2004...? Don't really think so.

UT2004 may be pushing it a little. Maybe on low graphics.
UT99 will probably work fine.
