I was thinking of using this little beast as a server. Put Arch Linux on it and let it run on the corner of a shelf for the next five years.
Funny how you can add your own case, just like the Apple 1. I'm hoping this is as successful as everyone predicts and they make newer versions as technology progresses.
You mean, like the other ten million tiny portable computers that run linux and are currently on prototype/preorder phase. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] Also, could it run Windows XP?
ARM processor, so no.
Firefox's Private Browsing mode is enough.
Incognito.
ARM processor, so no.
Eh, linux is alright i guess. It could be used as a great media center or server, maybe even host a couple small minecraft boxes or something like that.
Eh, linux is alright i guess. The whole point of them putting Linux on it was to save RAM from DEs that would take a lot of RAM. If you look at one of their videos the GUI is pretty slow. (was an older video but new enough that I think it still applies to the finished product)
This would be perfect for setting up a server for a small amount of friends.
How powerful is this compared to something like an SGSII?
It has an ARMv6 700Mhz Single core whilst the SGSII has a ARM Cortex A9 Dual core 1.2GHz. Basically a lot :v: I believe I read somewhere that they plan on releasing a Cortex A8 version which would be a large step up putting it on par with an iPhone 4/Galaxy S.
Fuck, it's 35 bucks for an ethernet capable version, and it runs off USB power? I'm sold. Putting the money away right now, they better find some cheap shipping method. It'd be nice if they made a version with more RAM, or added an expansion slot, or something, though.
For its size its a real supercomputer, that tiny thing can play pretty good looking 3D games and play 1080p movies
It runs 1080p videos fine? Energy-efficient media centre here I come
So, do you need alot of hardware-experience for this thing, or can you just plug it in, install an OS, like Linux, and do shit with it?
So, do you need alot of hardware-experience for this thing, or can you just plug it in, install an OS, like Linux, and do shit with it?
It's an ARM processor, so I think you'd need a gnu/linux distro that can run on ARM, like Arch or Debian.
So, do you need alot of hardware-experience for this thing, or can you just plug it in, install an OS, like Linux, and do shit with it?
They sell SD card with OSes pre-installed I believe.
It can run Quake 3 with a smooth framerate. Good enough excuse to buy one.
But can it run Crysis?
Fuck, it's 35 bucks for an ethernet capable version, and it runs off USB power? I'm sold. Putting the money away right now, they better find some cheap shipping method. The expansion slot is GPIO this is meant for programmers.
But can it run Crysis?
Who cares about Crysis? Besides it can probably also run the original Unreal Tournament smoothly, if there's binaries that's compatible with the ARM platform (I didn't check for that). Since they're both from late 1999.
It's an ARM processor, so I think you'd need a gnu/linux distro that can run on ARM, like Arch or Debian.
But installing that won't be a huge problem, right? I mean, I know how to install OS'es from windows.
I will just buy 1-2 of those and play around with them Cardbox laptop here i come
But installing that won't be a huge problem, right? I mean, I know how to install OS'es from windows.
Windows is click 5 times and you're done, linux is more complicated.
Windows is click 5 times and you're done, linux is more complicated.
Linux still isn't that complicated. Not as much as people seem to think at least.
Linux still isn't that complicated. Not as much as people seem to think at least.
If you're going to use it as a every day OS you're going to want to know what everything does so you can use Linux without going to google every 10 minutes, pasting commands without actually knowing what those commands do. Windows is harder to break, and easier to use so to speak.
Linux still isn't that complicated. Not as much as people seem to think at least.
It depends on the distro really.
Will those computers be sold in Canada?
Will those computers be sold in Canada?
Yes they will be sold internationally.
If you're going to use it as a every day OS you're going to want to know what everything does so you can use Linux without going to google every 10 minutes, pasting commands without actually knowing what those commands do. Windows is harder to break, and easier to use so to speak.
Someone's only used shitty Desktop Environments. And the bolded part made me laugh, especially since you'll need to be root or have root privileges on Linux to fuck shit up royally.
Someone's only used shitty Desktop Environments. And the bolded part made me laugh.
I use XFCE, but use the shell more then anything else. Windows is harder to break, there is more automation, almost every configuration is the same. Its streamlined, kind of like Ubuntu.
Windows is click 5 times and you're done, linux is more complicated.
I ment from Windows to Linux
I ment from Windows to Linux
What?
I ment that you deleted windows then installed Linux, ugh, nevermind.
I ment that you deleted windows then installed Linux, ugh, nevermind.
Oh I thought you meant Wubi or something
