Could I run windows 98/95 on this?
It would run as a sweet game station that way.
DOSBox
Also, the Pi uses the same SoC as the Roku

DosBox on ARM is slow as hell, and also quite buggy.

Buy it, butcher it (it's broken) and shove a Pi/New screen in it? Been searching for one since September.

Could you disassemble the plastic housing around it to make it even smaller?

With a bit of brute force, though I'm not sure how much smaller you can get it by doing that.
I wonder if it's possible to put it in a case, with a screen, and buttons. Like a Gameboy Advanced type thing. But also external HDMI/USB support.
Does nobody knows about computers in this thread ?
I mean, I'm reading all sort of things I'd expect from the non tech savy people.
Can it download ram ? :pwn:
what

"Does nobody knows" :pwn:
This is a thread for questions, not everyone is as knowledgeable as you since you're so fucking smart and know everything.

Never claimed I knew everything holycrap.
I thought people knew more about computers and how they work around here, but then again it's not the same community as it was when Gmod was in it's golden years.
Sorry, really tired, though I doubt anyone is really 'unknowledgeable' here, most questions are simply people who have no experience with ARM or limitations OS/Software wise.
Oh well, I was kind of assholish too. Sorry
I know literally nil about linux, but would it be possible to run wine on this so you could use .exe programs?

There is absolutely no way you're gonna run stuff that's not designed for ARM processors on ARM processors
That has nothing to do with Wine, it's the way the processor's ARM architechture differs from the x86 (your usual windows app's) architechture.

There's a reason why no one bothered to post this thread in GD but in HS+W section instead originally. People there actually knows what's going on.
Right the only real way you are going to ~run~ windows on it is using something Like qemu to emulate it. This will be VERY slow and mostly useless.

windows 8 is coming out on ARM but I don't know how well the rpi will run it
windows 8 is coming out on ARM but I don't know how well the rpi will run it
We have gone over this more than 3 times now. Not enough ram.
We have gone over this more than 3 times now. Not enough ram.
as far off as Windows 8 is and considering that none of us even have a raspberry pi to base this conclusion off of, I wouldn't go that far yet. I haven't seen any papers for windows 8 arm but 256MB might very well be enough to run it.
That said, I strongly doubt that it will run, W8 probably needs at least twice the ram that the rpi has.

It doubt that Win8 for ARM will be sold to end users. Also it requires 1 GB of RAM and UEFI
Does anyone think this would work well as a cheaper alternative to Roku?
Is there some kind of international / Swedish version of this? I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
So wait.
If I can't run w95 on it what OS can.

Something ARM based.
It does quite clearly say Linux in the first post.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_architecture#Operating_systems
As you can see, a reasonably large list of Linux distros, but also, interestingly (although I doubt the RPi will have the required specs for it) Windows 8 -
Microsoft announced on 5 January 2011 that the next major version of the Windows NT family (now termed Windows 8)[60] will include support for ARM processors. Microsoft demonstrated a preliminary version of Windows (version 6.2.7867) running on an ARM-based computer at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.[61]
Because Windows is the only OS out there :downs:

Like I said before, Windows CE.
I know I probably sound really stupid but would it run DOS?
