Oh fuck. CoolCorky, I haven't listened to him in 3 years. I couldn't remember if he was 60's or 70's.
Another good Duran Duran song:
New moon on Monday

Before the rain (Made in 2010 but who gives a flying shit)

The video is custom. Not by me.
You haven't listened to David Bowie in 3 years?
What kind of a man are you?
Oh and although it isn't technically 80s, Duran Duran's new album is as good as any.
agreed. Even 80's is a pretty big genre.
80's is a genre?
There any "non-punk" things you don't lol at?

can someone tell me what this even means
oh god prog assault.
Listened to Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue today. Really good vibes from a Beach Boys solo record.
Definitely a classic of the 70s.

What'd you expect from me?

starless is a good track though so it's okay
Red never ceases to move me. True classic for sure.

Wow you actually like a prog song? This moment shall forever be burned in my mind.
Anyways, I've never gotten into 80's music, it just sounds so cheesy. It's like every band in the world simultaneously decided to start using the exact same synths, guitars and drums. It's amazing. Every song sounds like it's straight from some cheesy action series or something. Can anyone show me an 80's song that isn't cheesy?
This is pretty much what the whole 80's sound to me:

I can't say I like it.
Listen to Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins. They're part of the reason why the 80s are great in terms of making you feel.
But the cheesy stuff is uplifting too :v:
80's rush kicks ass.
and i personally thought 80's king crimson was better than the stuffy overblown nonsense they made in the 70's

sans red of course...

Larks Tongues in Aspic was sick, it's one of the few albums I'd call truly explosive.
yeah maybe part two but not part one.
yeah maybe part two but not part one.
damn right part 1.
It builds with clusters of sounds, then BOOM BANG, and funk thereafter.
I completely forgot about Discipline, it's pretty amazing. And I'm starting to like the song I posted, too :v:. Though, I still can't really get over the cheesyness.
it's called camp and it's what makes rush rush.
i vastly prefer it to Yes's awful attempts at humour. when bands try to be funny they end up being terrible.
yes this extends to frank zappa eat me.
kaboose, listen to Talking Heads, great 80s stuff.
the talking heads made five excellent albums in a row. not even radiohead or the beatles can match that record.
Brian Eno's production skill there was truly incredible.

doesn't get enough credit.

Probably my favourite song of the 80s - when Synthpop was good.

I don't think the 80's cheesiness is intentional, I bet it wasn't even considered cheesy at the time (this would be nice to know for sure). And I also don't think it's what makes Rush Rush because I prefer their 70's music as with any "70's prog" bands. That includes Yes, and I wouldn't know about their attempted humour because I haven't really listened to their post 70's stuff.
I just like my music super serious because it's serious business, and that's why I can't listen to a lot of 80's music.
And by the way, why is this 80's and 70's music thread when they have practically nothing in common?
