What dyou mean 80s cheesiness wasn't intentional?
It's only now that people are too bitter and cynical to like that kind of stuff. Genesis' pop years are win and you know it.
if i wasn't bitter or cynical what would i be AK'z???
if i wasn't bitter or cynical what would i be AK'z???
Bjork.
I can't imagine why people would wan't to make their music intentionally cheesy ("bad"), and that's why I don't think it's intentional. Maybe I'm just too stuck-up or maybe I'd have to have lived in the 80's to understand it, but I just don't. And I really don't know about Genesis' pop years since I haven't listened to them :v:. Dammit, it just isn't serious enough!
Explain how being cheesy is bad. You must obtain a sense of humour!
bjork has plenty of bitterness and cynicism, it's all over homogenic.

Ah, I remember. Maybe I can't take her "being angry" serious enough.

last.fm says you are a tool fan. you can't seriously tell me that hooker with a penis is serious. i mean i googled that once and found out it shares an album with a song called Pushit.
poo-shit
You can't really talk about good and bad when it comes to music, but isn't cheesiness generally something you want to avoid in art or whatever? And if you make something camp, it's basically intentionally bad and that's the whole point. And I don't get it. Maybe I don't want to have a sense of humour, JUST LET ME BE SUPER SERIOUS ALONE! :v:
Tool does have plenty of humour but it's pretty different kind of humour, not the cheesy kind. And mostly they're just super serious and pretentious, just the way I like it, though that could just be more of their "humour", I can't tell.

I'll tell you what to do.
Get yourself Genesis' Duke album. Headphones. Sit back and feel the greatness.

Why don't you be like Patrick Bateman, serious about cheesy stuff. Except without the blood-shed.

pff oh yeah you must have very delicate sensibilities.
I gathered that it's "ironically bad", all right, but "ironically bad" is just plain bad for me :v:. And I don't know how to be serious about "bad" stuff, how is that even bossible.
dude one of their songs is called pooshit
I know right, but it's still a super serious song if you listen to it. And I it's not just pooshit it's also push it, it's just their distinct humour that they like to shove in people's faces.
what im serious i just dont get it ):

"Fear of Music" is the reason for not needing drugs.

anyone who says they get Remain in Light is a liar. but it doesn't matter because the grooves are so sick.
if you say so, i mean i'm not gonna listen to it so i'll take your word for it.
Yes, I figured as much :v:.
Wow, I just realized tool might be intentionally pretentious, making it intentionally "bad" but I still listen to them. Maybe there's still a chance I might get into the whole 80's thing.
I can't explain Remain In Light to save my life. I just use it to refresh the brain :-]
if only i could have seen the heads live:

I still don't get how having a sense of humour makes music bad.
It's about personality bro, only you can realise that.
This is some definition from wikipedia: "Banality, artifice, mediocrity, and ostentation so extreme as to have perversely sophisticated appeal". Banality, artifice, mediocrity, and ostentation are all characteristics that usally make stuff bad, and because I don't get the "perversely sophisticated appeal", it just makes the stuff bad for me, sorry.
Talking heads sound pretty good, though.
Dude, just listen to the Duke album. Can't be that difficult to experience.
It is still very much a prog album anyway.

mm yeah
Jesus, 80's had some great stuff in it, I dont get why people seem to think it was dry of music
80s is majorly underrated because people think that anything obviously outlandish, is bad.
80s had some damn good pop music
ie
lots of post punk

I also find it hard to make a broad sweeping statement that all people think that anything obviously outlandish is bad

like this was a single that hit #5 and its hardly a normal song

Duke's hardly even an 80's album.
Christ, I forgot Moving Pictures was released in -81, that must be one of the best 80's albums.
What do you mean? It screams 80s.
It wasn't even recorded in the 80's so it doesn't count.
Duke's hardly even an 80's album.

Maybe not as much as Invisible Touch, but still.

This was a great album.
Wow you actually like a prog song? This moment shall forever be burned in my mind.
Anyways, I've never gotten into 80's music, it just sounds so cheesy. It's like every band in the world simultaneously decided to start using the exact same synths, guitars and drums. It's amazing. Every song sounds like it's straight from some cheesy action series or something. Can anyone show me an 80's song that isn't cheesy?
This is pretty much what the whole 80's sound to me:
