Can someone describe the taste of seaweed? I'm fine with the fish and veggies but the idea of eating seaweed is a bit sickening.
To be honest, it's not that gross. I used to think it was, but then I tried my first sushi and it was awesome. It's a bit sweet, but not like sugary. To be honest it's something you just have to try for yourself. It's not bad at all, and it's dry, not like wet, soggy kind you'd find in the ocean.
Seaweed is in ice cream.
It's probably diluted by the other ingredients though, in sushi it holds the whole thing together.
Now I want california rolls. God damn you. (because I can't get any until tomorrow :crying:) Also, I've looked everywhere for some short-grain rice, but I can't seem to find any in my area.
Can you make a guide on making Ebi, I love them but their like $3 each :-(

Google image 海苔 for a view. It doesn't have much of a taste and it goes along with the sushi like the candy coating of an m'n'm.

It should come off easily.

I'll look it up though.
Did automerge just break on me or is it just my iPod
Did automerge just break on me or is it just my iPod
Not sure, they're 2 separate posts. Hey, me and my dad are going shrimping sometime this month (we live on the East Coast, Atlantic Ocean) and I was wondering if I could use these same shrimp we catch for sushi like my man earlier mentioned? I think he called it Ebi?

Immah making a roll right now.
Immah making a roll right now.
If you can I'd like to see a picture? Did the guide inspire you to make it or have you done it before?
How are wild fish likely to have parasites that frozen or farm raised? If anything, I would think it to be the opposite.
Where is the Wasabi dude?
Now i'm hungry.
Sushi for the win.
Sushi is icky.
OP, congrats on doing your first sushi, but you REALLY need to work on the presentation of it, it looks quite sloppy and "thrown togeather" there should be perferations on your seaweed to show you where to cut. You need to have a batshit sharp knife, and after each cut run it under cold water, as this helps to stop it sticking. Otherwise, good job.
Last time I went to Japan some family friends took us to some metro area where there was this awesome sushi house. At 8pm at night in winter the line for it was around the corner, but still there were heaps of businessmen that'd just gotten off work, plenty of couples and a few families going out for dinner. My fondest memory was the Eel (Unagi?) sushi, it wasn't like a normal sized sushi, where they give you a little slice of eel, I swear to god it was a whole fillet of Unagi (it was a good 12-15 cm long) placed on a little sushi sized cushion of rice. Fucking delish.
Where is the Wasabi dude?
Wasabi is normally a radish-like plant with big leaves that is ground up on a rough stone tablet to make fresh wasabi paste. I would actually really like to learn how to make sushi properly, the bad thing is it has to be like a career. Are there any books I could read to better my sushi knowledge, and aid me in making it?
btw you look gay just saying
btw you look gay just saying
By the way, you're a piece of shit who doesn't contribute to posts, just saying.
Sushi? :barf:
I hear plenty rave about sushi, how about some delicious steak tar-tar. You can very easily make this at home with some experience and most importantly the proper ingredients. Imo it's a thousand times better.
Not gonna lie, that looks disgusting. I'm sure it probably tastes amazing, but looking at it is nasty.
