As I said to B-hazard in PM, I would love to come (and bring a friend of mine, we both live in Surrey) but we have GCSEs until June.
Maybe next time? :)
Smithfield has no harmful materials. It was built 100 years before they started using it as a building material.
at least you aren't bringing those stilts nobody cares about

What about bird shit? I'm pretty sure you can get some nasty stuff from contact with that stuff/inhaling too much of the fumes from decades old piles of it. A normal surgical mask/dust mask would probably protect from that though.

There isn't actually any in smithfield apart from one small area near the entrance, it's nothing to worry about. We're being provided with p1 masks because the dust in the basement is very unpleasant to breathe (it's all age old wood chippings and stuff)
Damn, i would love to come but i'm not from U.K. :smith:
Sounds good, but I live in Scotland and probably too young to go anyway :v:

There is no age limit, as long as your mature and your not so fat you can't haul your ass around.

It's a good site, but it has asbestos so for FP meetups it would be best to stick to sites that don't contain asbestos.

It was only abandoned a few years ago and a company has been given planning permission to turn it into a hotel. Any asbestos, if there is any, is most likely undisturbed.

I remember reading a news article about a builder giving Mesothelioma to his wife (killing her) because he did some drilling work in the factory and gave his clothes for his wife to wash (derp). I'm guessing since it was in the wall it was brown asbestos which is dangerous shit.
Cannae go this time, sarry.
Due to complications with my order of face masks, I am considering delaying the meet, unless someone can bring extra P1 masks for everyone.
EDIT: Actually, since there is no asbestos, we could go unmasked as long as you guys don't mind asbestos.
I didn't need a mask when I went, all I got was black bogies for a day or two.
Are you going to come?
I've ordered the masks anyway, it's just I'm not sure they will deliver them on time.
Nah, I don't really enjoy exploring abandoned buildings, maybe after September though.
But yeah, I don't see much need for a mask, unless you're rolling around old stuff.
Is Bengley gonna show you guys the weird modern bit?
So, is this happening this saturday?
So anoying, cant go this time :(
snipedysnipsnip do
Awesome, have we agreed where to meet yet? I think farringdon station is the best place. I have one problem and that's money. I have £4.80 on my oyster card and that isn't enough to get to London and back.
I have 73p in the bank and that isn't enough to top my oyster card up with. I will more than likely come up with some way of getting money before saturday, so it shouldn't be a problem.
come to think of it, i think i will have to skip this. i have an exam on monday and need to spend the weekend revising. damn and blast these exams!
This is only gonna be for a couple of hours on saturday, surely you can spare that
Why not spread your revision out so you can come?
Yeah, revision isn't meant to completely take up all of your time.
Yeah, revision isn't meant to completely take up all of your time.
I did that on my last exams and it probably made the results worse.

I didn't revise at all (I mean not at all) and I did pretty well in the exams. The bit I failed on was the coursework (because I didn't do it)
You need to do revision in moderation, and also have fun to relieve the stress of revision and exams.
UPDATE:
For all who are coming, get to Farringdon station by 1pm.
Bring some spare change to pay for your dust mask, and bring a cloth you can breathe through in-case the dust masks don't arrive on-time(because the worst you can worry about it dust).
