Lord Skellig Oh god. What the hell. I think I can count the number of words that were actually used correctly in context in this rap on one hand. Hard to judge the lyrics since they're pretty much gibberish.
*Technically* its all in context, some of it is quite heavily metaphor-ed though :P [editline]08:52AM[/editline]
Perhaps our genius is better utilized in a team?
Perhaps it is, yeah
*Technically* its all in context, some of it is quite heavily metaphor-ed though :P

Forsooth, yea I nay contrair what you declare
This is just the first line, but contrair isn't a word. Do you mean "contraire" as in the French word? If so, it's an adjective and a noun, not a verb. You can't "contraire" something. Even if it was a verb (maybe you wanted to use it like "contradict?), "I nay contraire" doesn't make sense, because nay means no. "I no contradict" is pidgin at best. Another line:
TH89 your lyics may align in the past antecedant, are they alas.
You have a contradiction in tenses. If you're talking in the past tense you have to say "may have" not "may." More importantly, though, this is so vague and cryptic that, while you could try to ascribe meaning to it, it doesn't really mean anything. An exercise: let's replace some of these words with synonyms and see what we get:
TH89 your lyics may fall into line in the past preceding, are they unfortunately.
What are my lyrics falling into line with? Why would they fall into line in the past, but not now? What is the significance of this? "Antecedent" means either coming before or preceding (verb) or something that comes before or precedes (noun). Neither of these makes sense. If you're using it as a verb, what is preceding? My lyrics? What are they preceding? If it's a noun we have the same problem. The most reasonable explanation I can think of is that you're saying the lyrics are old, played out, or antiquated. But if that's the intent then your misuse of words and fragmented grammar completely obscures the meaning. An easy one:
Meader you convey yourself a rap battle leader but you can't periphrasticate, colloquial reader
That's not how you use "convey." To convey means to transport, transfer, or transmit something from one place or person to another. And periphrasticating is a bad thing. It's what you're doing (which I'm sure you know). Why would he want to do that? Another:
mephistophelian endeavors galvanise the enumerate
You're doing okay (despite the fact that your reason for using such archaic and convoluted language is very unclear) until the last word in this line. Enumerate is a verb. You can't galvanize a verb. You galvanize a noun. And so on and so forth. The net effect is akin to that of a 5-year-old with access to a military arsenal. Some of these words are so obscure that I had to look them up, and I'm left wondering how you could even know they existed and yet still not know how to use "convey."
Why hello Thesaurus.
Well I've got to take an exam now but I'll go over it all when I get back, but I'll just say that another definition of convey is "To communicate or make known; impart". Thus he is portraying himself as a rap battle leader.
duckboy link is not working
probably not worth it :nyd:
Lord_Skellig was pretty crazy with the lyrics... But I prefered Pyrofiliac's rap. I loved his voice and flow ahhaha Also I laughed very hard when I saw The Wall of Pussies
First thing you should be doing is compressing your vocals. You've got a compressor effect, right?
I'm not really sure what that is. Let's start there. [editline]08:07AM[/editline] Also, DisasterButton wishes to be taken off the wall. Technically, I signed her up without her permission. D: [editline]08:07AM[/editline] She is working with me on a rebuttal rap, though.
pyrofiliac and meader/pipin were the only ones really worth listening to honestly. The rest had crappy voices.. skellig sounded like he was reading his way through a thesaurus. as a poet I'd like to advise you that the main focus of writing is making sure your reader (or listener in this case) understands you. Not only is your voice really hard to understand, but I don't think anyone here has the time to look up your whole poem in a dictionary. TU154M/Shogunner wasn't terrible aside from the god awful autotune. The lyrics were sort of cute.
Voted for SHoGuNNeR and Tu154M Because Penis. [editline]03:19PM[/editline] No Homo

Me and Lord_Skellig are going to kill Pyro softly with our words.
I'm not really sure what that is. Let's start there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression A compressor is an effect that normalizes the volume. This is an oversimplification but for our purposes what it does is take the parts of the vocals that are too quiet and make them louder. This has two benefits: one, it makes your voice sound bigger. Two, more importantly, it allows you to turn up your vocals fairly loud without having to worry about the two or three extra-loud spots in your recording distorting and hurting people's ears. As an example, here's part of the vocals for the song I made for ItchyBarracuda, in their raw recorded form: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3677532/ib_raw01.mp3 And here's the waveform: Now, here's the compressed version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3677532/ib_compressed.mp3 And the waveform: The difference in sound should be pretty obvious. Also note that I went kind of overboard with the compression there, but it was a joke song and in rap music it's usually better to have too much compression than too little. The other thing that will help your vocals is EQing (equalizing). EQing is when you adjust various high, low, and medium-range frequencies in order to fine-tune the timbre of a sound. If you need more bass, you turn up the lower frequencies. If you need your vocals to sound crisper (which you do) you give a little boost to the very high frequencies. Crisp and sharp high frequencies are good to have relatively loud in rap songs because they form the consonants of words, which makes them easier to understand. One of the compressor presets I used did some EQing already, so I didn't have that much more work to do, but here's my vocals again with an equalizer. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3677532/ib_eq.mp3 Now, to recap, here's what my vocals sound like mixed in the track without Compression or EQing: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3677532/ib_muffledvox.mp3 Not pretty. With them, here's the final track: Keep in mind I'm by no means an expert, so don't take this as gospel or anything. I just know enough to keep my vocals from sounding like total ass nuggets.
1. Yeah it is fudging the grammar a bit, "I no contradict" is what I intended. 2. "TH89 your lyrics may align in the past antecedent, are they alas." 3. Convey is definitely in the right context. 4. It is saying that they aligned with each other, i.e., were well put together. I was under the impression antecedent meant antiquated, I got quite a few of these words from my co-rapper. And "are they alas" is leading onto the next line. 5. Periphrasticate was intended to be a good thing, which it could be interpreted as being so. We certainly tried to do so. 6. I was under the false impression that enumerate was a noun also, meaning a lot. Lastly, "despite the fact that your reason for using such archaic and convoluted language is very unclear" I have intended it to be very convoluted as you say. Barring the one or two misuses of words you have shown, it does make sense, but a lot of it has to be explained it how its supposed to be interpreted :P
Pyrofiliac was the best. Tu154M was the funniest.
Convey is definitely in the right context.
Trust me, it's not. My dad is an English professor. I can have him tell you if it'll make you happy.
Barring the one or two misuses of words you have shown, it does make sense
Those were just examples. I could probably go through it line by line and find similar problems with most of them.
I have intended it to be very convoluted as you say.
But why? Using big words eloquently is impressive, but just mashing them together with little or no sense of grammar, meaning, or narrative just makes you look pretentious. The goal in a rap battle is both to demonstrate your mastery of rapping, and win over the audience. If you demonstrate a lack of mastery by misusing words and speaking in pidgin in order to make your words fit, that doesn't help. If the audience can't understand you, that doesn't help either. It seems like the assumption is "oh, I'll use big words and they won't understand my raps, therefore they will assume I am way smarter than them and be impressed."
Many of them used lyrics from other songs, just a few words, but they did.
Many of them used lyrics from other songs, just a few words, but they did.
Speaking of that, someone just sent me a link to a song by Jay-Z called "On to The Next One." I shat brix. [editline]01:28PM[/editline]
Keep in mind I'm by no means an expert, so don't take this as gospel or anything. I just know enough to keep my vocals from sounding like total ass nuggets.
No, you're not an expert, but you're very good. I started fiddling with things in Adobe Audition and I found that a limiter works well for my voice. I tend to yell on certain words/consonants and it definitely levels it out. Compression worked nicely too. Now, all I need to work on is EQing. I'm guessing that it's a bit of a hit and miss procedure?
Pyro took it by storm. Also: Here's all of the songs (except for Duckboy's instrumental)in a pack for easy downloading.

Th89 could you like get in contact with myf and tell him I am willing to exchange sexual favors in exchange for the instrumental of that song you guys did "top secret".
I'll ask him but it's been years, I doubt he still has it
TH89, can I PM you some of my work?
Pyro sounds like Will Smith. Hhahahah, still voted for him tho.
TH89, can I PM you some of my work?
Sure.
And here is how I make my comeback.
When the fuck did you get a fantastic mic?
When the fuck did you get a fantastic mic?
I had it for my entry, I just didn't know how to mix.
Raptor song wins automatically.
