so it's not really possible to get a dslr that shoots 1080p at at least 60fps for about 500$?
my sony nex 5 takes 1080i video at 60fps, they're like $600 now.
lol interlaced [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] 1080p60 =/= 1080i60 1080i60 is, when deinterlaced, just 30p
well i know it's not 1080p, that's why i said 1080i. That's pretty close, and it's still quality video.
well i know it's not 1080p, that's why i said 1080i. That's pretty close, and it's still quality video.
but it's not 60p which is what he wants. it's not close. btw can an nex-5 do 60/50p at 720?
I don't think the NEX-5 has 720p at all. NEX-3 only has 720p. The new NEX-C3 or C5 or whatever might.
Not sure if this is the right thread to post this question in but ill post it here anyway. Does anyone know if the sony a200 is any good for a entry level DSLR? Its got some good reviews from what Ive seen I just wanted an opinion from someone who has used it or has previously owned it.

Don't go Sony.
Invest in a Canon, Nikon, or perhaps a Pentax system. Don't go Sony.
I agree, but for the sake of debate, why? Sony's take some great shots.
I agree, but for the sake of debate, why? Sony's take some great shots.
as does any camera. this is more than about quality of images, it's about a system you buy into with your first body
Yeah - the Sony will be competitive in terms of features, image quality etc. but if you come to buy a lens or accessories in future, the big two - Canon and Nikon, along with the third biggest Pentax have a far larger and more common range of lenses for every situation at lower prices, compared to being stuck with tiny amount of lenses that Sony sell expensively (don't know the exact figure, but it will be pretty low :) ).
but for your first body/system how many of those accessories are you actually going for?
I am still saving up for a DSLR camera but just today I saw a Pentax MZ-M at a carboot sale and I think they are going to sell it for cheap. I checked on the internet and they sell for 100-200 dollars.
This is the Pentax ZX-M, also known as the MZ-M, a manual focus 35mm SLR camera that was announced in 1997, and the spiritual successor to the legendary K1000. It's a "student" version of the autofocus Pentax ZX/MZ series cameras; Pentax ripped out the autofocus, added manual focus aids, and replaced the pentaprism of its more expensive AF stablemates with a pentamirror. It is is a marvelously light, very usable manual focus film camera that I take almost everywhere when I don't feel like hauling around digital bricks or my Canon A-1.
more about it http://lewiscollard.com/cameras/pentax-zx-m-mz-m/ photo examples http://lewiscollard.com/img/medium/yellow.jpg http://lewiscollard.com/img/medium/cnv00031.jpg Nothing really special about it. The photo quality looks alright (assuming the one I'm looking at is in decent condition) but as for learning the basics of aperture and shutter speed I think it'd be a great tool! what do you guys think?
Oh also you might want to consider a more expensive but better built camera from the 70's or 80's. But really, with film bodies it doesn't matter that much. It's a reliable, basic camera and it holds film. Nothing else will matter.
I can't decide on getting a 35mm prime lens with as wide an aperture as I can afford, or a 70+ zoom lens Normally I like shooting with a long focal length so a zoom lens makes sense, but I am also really into using my camera for filming, which is why it would make sense to get the 35mm lens.
Depends. If your kit lens or other lens(es) are decent enough for video and you don't already have a telephoto, I'd go for that. If you do already have a telephoto, if you think it's sufficient for the work you do with it, and if you are really enjoying your video work but want to step it up, then get the prime.
Any opinions? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800792821-USE/Canon_8861A001_EOS_Digital_Rebel_Digital.html I'm just starting out, but this is going to be a VERY serious hobby for me. Maybe not my career, but I do want to take a lot of photos and I'm learning alot about the aperture, ISO, f-stop and all the other mechanics.
If you're just starting out how do you know how serious you are about it?

However the kit lens is a decent lens, so I wouldn't worry about to much.
Hey guys, I've been looking at getting a dslr for a while now and I'm looking to spend around NZ$700-1000 on a canon or nikon. I'd be using it a lot for car photography, and being able to take decent night shots would be a plus as well. Any recommendations? [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] NZ$700-1000 is US$605-864.
When I have the money, I am going to be upgrading from my D40 to the D7000 Kit (with the 18-105mm lens). I'm meeting the limitations of my D40, with image quality, and the unreliability of its AF system, as well as the fact the D7000 has great quality video (when manually focused). Will this upgrade be worth it?
So I was originally saving up for a Pentax K-5 because it's awesome, but now that I think about it I'm still a beginner in photography, and the k-r would probably more than suit my needs. Any advice? I would love the K-5, but I just think I won't use it to it's full potential.

The K-5 will last you an awful lot longer, though. For stills, it's one of the best consumer cameras for it's price. The K-r is good, but I wouldn't recommend it over competitors.

Sheeeit cracka waiting a little longer is totally worth it, and if you buy the k-r you'll spend more on the long run. I'd kill for a k-5, and I know a lot of people around here would, too.
Personally I would buy the K-r and spend the $600 you save on glass.
