I am looking to get a camera for around $250.. this leaves DSLRs out of the question.
I've been looking at these two cameras because I'm interested in superzoom cameras: Kodak Z990 Max ($260ish) or a Nikon L120 ($250ish)
I want to do everything with it.. from shooting pictures of people, to shooting pictures of sporting events,to shooting picture of nature like all the flowers that are planted in my garden, to shooting pictures at awesome places that I go every now and then like Niagara Falls or the local zoo
Cheers!

Just save ~$100 more and get a rebel, you will struggle to do some of that stuff with a superzoom (superzooms are horrible).

If you look around you could probably get one of the older rebels or a 350/400d for $250-$350 used.

Are they digital or film? And do they also include the lenses?
Are they digital or film? And do they also include the lenses?
Digital, and yes they are usually sold with the kit lens.
The cheapest I could find with a lens is $400 in the XS

I'm talking about on places like craigslist and ebay. Christ you have no initiative :v:

I looked on both Craigslist and ebay and I can't find anything
Personally I would just save up and go for a prothusiast DSLR. You'll spend a decent amount of money but you'll know you're getting a REAL entry-level DSLR. I saved up for a while to get a Nikon D5100 and haven't regretted it yet. Besides, honestly if you're gonna fork out a lot of money, you might as well go for the best bang for your buck instead of just being in a hurry to get a camera without saving up for a really good one.
But that's just me.
Okay so back to my original question:

Snapsort is great for comparing cameras, also have you taken a look at film cameras?
Snapsort is great for comparing cameras, also have you taken a look at film cameras?
What are film cameras?
What are film cameras?
hahaa it's one of the old fashioned ones in which you insert a roll of film and then get it developed
they're really good quality and are pretty cheap to start off with as compared to a DSLR or even one of those superzooms
you can get a good one on ebay for £30 with a nice lens
What are film cameras?
He's joking right? Please tell me he's joking :suicide:
He's joking right? Please tell me he's joking :suicide:
given his past posts here I don't think he is joking
but come on, everyone starts somewhere
But, I mean, everyone's used a disposable point-and-shoot film at some point in their life, right? Maybe not an SLR, but at least a disposable? I mean it was eight years back that I last used one, but still everyone on here should be old enough to have used or seen or at least HEARD of one?
OH.. sorry I wasn't thinking film as in those films.. I was thinking film as in movies I thought it was a special kind of video camera or something.
Yeah I've used film cameras back in the day -- or at least watched my dad use them.
Film costs too much and developing it costs even more compared to basically free digital. With digital I can take unlimited photos (you know after backing them up and deleting them) and I can edit them and such as well.
Digital all the way for me.

Nah. I'm passing on film.

I remember the days I used to take disposable cameras on school trips :v:
^My dad just recently found and got developed the rolls from my sixth grade science camp. Good memories, man.
@Cueball, no need to hate on digital. Film's got great quality and the startup cost is lower, but over time the graph starts to look like this:

I agree, film is great and has many benefits, and the equipment costs are far cheaper. But given time you're going to be paying more, and if you don't have a steady income (i.e. most of the unemployed teens on this forum) it's not the most viable option.

Wouldn't the cost of digital decrease since last year 4GB cost like $20, and this year it costs $10, etc?

Eh, technically they should both be going up and shouldn't be linear because it's referring to the total cost to you, but I didn't want to factor in cost of accessories because that's highly variable depending on how you shoot, what you want, when you need it etc. But yeah, things like that for digital do go down over time.
it has been done
