The "Which camera is right for me?" thread V2 - Get a used Rebel

I've got a 16GB Transcend class 10 card. It doesn't reach class 10 when writing, so I can't shoot 1080p on my 550D without it stopping automatically :(
I'm trying to decide between getting a new camera (probably canon 7D) or a new lens. The camera I own now is a Canon 30D and lenses I've got are Canon 55-250mm, Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and Sigma 8-16mm 4.5-5.6. I also own a 430EX II.
I mostly do Event photography for example corporate, charity events, parties. A lot of the time I struggle for light if I can't find a pale surface to bounce my flash off and ISO 3200 is pretty noisy on my 30D. I probably use my Tamron 17-50 the most since it's got the widest aperture and I quite like the range of it. The focus seems to hunt a lot, although that's probably down to lens more than the camera.
So I'm wondering if it's better in invest in a new camera for better ISO, focusing system, viewfinder, screen and video would be an added plus or I could go for a new lens probaly a prime since they usually have better optics and aperture. Lens would probably be a cheaper option or might work out the same depending on the lens.
got a 16gb lexar class 10 here

Sounds like you've got the lenses covered unless you're looking at a 70-200/2.8 or something. I'd go for the body upgrade, and then maybe an 85/1.8 or 35/2(or Sigma 30mm 1.4) depending on which end you'd use more.

Stopping when? I can record 1080p just fine..
it's more to do with overheating than the cache filling
[editline]10th September 2011[/editline]
thats why shooting video I always have to have a spare card and take it out between scenes to cool it
I have a class 10 16GB play.com brand one, oh yeah
it records 1080p 24fps fine
8gig c10 and a 4gig c4 in my d7000
use main for writing and 4 for overflow. Usually have time during writing to the 4 to copy things off of the camera, it's just when I stop and go "oh crap gotta hit a computer".
Hopefully my 3x8GB will be enough for 12 days of fieldwork. Will shoot fieldwork photos in JPEG I guess and any stuff I think I'll really have to edit in RAW from time to time.
I have a 16gb Class 4, getting a 16gb class 10 for recording videos.

It records for a short time and then stops with the "recording has been stopped automatically" message.

What are you talking about? The SD card doesn't overheat it will continue working well beyond the temperatures that the camera will turn itself off at. It is the buffer filling and the SD card not being able to keep up with the amount of data being written. The only thing that heats up when recording video is the sensor, and even if that causes the card to heat up it will not stop working until around 80C.

Not all cards are created equal.
how come the amount of time it says it can record is like 7 mins, then when it's taken out and cooled and put back in it's got over 20?

are you running low on space? For me that's usually what starts ticking down the max video time, which there's no space for more in there.
Got a 550D for my birthday
but it won't arrive until 2-4 days :(
What do you guys mean by "16gb class 4" etc. etc. ?

it's the giant C-circle with a number in the middle-

it represents the speed the card can write/read, this sums it up pretty well- http://camcorders.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=camcorders&cdn=gadgets&tm=39&f=00&su=p284.12.336.ip_p504.1.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&st=10&zu=http%3A//www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/

The higher the class the better, right?

yeah, upper class only in here please
no proles allowed
bourgeoisie only
Apparently I have a SanDisk class 4 card (15 MB/s). Still I can record 1080p just fine as I said...
It records for a short time and then stops with the "recording has been stopped automatically" message.
Define short time. A few seconds/minutes?
weirdly my class 2 SD card can record 1080p 25fps on a 550D just fine, but a borrowed class 4 couldn't handle it.
Is a wide angle lens adapter actually worth it?
http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/wide-angle-macro-lens/
No.
I believe not all classes are created equal. I think there is a minimum standard, but a lot of quality manufacturers under-rate their classes. I think a SanDisk Class 6 is typically closer to a Class 10 or something like that.
Right I went and bought a used 7D, for £850 hopefully that's a good price.

That seems pretty good. Do you happen to know the shutter condition though? Hopefully the guy didn't set it on burst and just hold it down every time he shot.

He said around 3000 so it was pretty low, I'll check it when I get it on Tuesday.
I'm saving some cash for a Panasonic G3. I was originally eyeing off an Olympus E-PL1, but then a Panasonic rep came in one day and showed us all the new Lumix micro four thirds range and I was quite impressed.
2x Sandisk class 6 8 GB And a 4 GB that is currently in my moms point and shoot.
