[QUOTE=B-hazard;32443316]I laughed at the book. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] If you earned it yes. But you might get snide comments from jealous people in your class saying that your photos are only good because of your camera or something.[/QUOTE] I got the book because I like things to read, plus why not. People can be jealous all they want, doesn't matter to me at all. Even my tutor was really interested today when I told him, he has a 450D.
So as mentioned to me earlier in the thread, I'm going to buy the Nikon D3100. Now that i've been paid I'll buy it before my trip to the scottish mountains. I just wanted to ask will the standard lens it comes with be ok for landscape pictures or do i need to look at buying another one.
the canon one is better [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] i lied. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] they're very similar [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] [url]http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/11-16mm.htm[/url] is good
Not sure this is the right thread, but I'm looking for a camera. I'm trying to find a Video Camera like the [URL="http://www.theflip.com/en-us/products/Ultra.aspx"]Flip UltraHD[/URL], except that takes pictures as well as video.

[QUOTE=Alcapwne;32523965]what's your budget?[/QUOTE] I don't really know, I'll look at the product and see if I think it's worth the price. I'm looking to use this for casual filming/photography.
[QUOTE=Zedicus Mann;32532712]I don't really know, I'll look at the product and see if I think it's worth the price. I'm looking to use this for casual filming/photography.[/QUOTE] Then just get like a canon powershot model or something.
Okay, this probably wasn't the right section to post for the answers I'm looking for. I appreciate you all trying, but I'm just looking for a simple video camera that takes pictures as well, and this is the professional photography area. :v:
im not a pro nobody here is except brian storey but he doesn't post round these parts any more
[QUOTE=cueballv2themax;32534590]im not a pro nobody here is except brian storey but he doesn't post round these parts any more[/QUOTE] But you guys are telling me all the photography cameras, that's what my problem is. I might end up getting a Flip though, and maybe a better point-and-shoot eventually... [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Hell, maybe I'll get into some Photography.
but if you have a P&S which does good quality video, whats the problem? [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] you wanted something which takes photos too, this takes photos and makes video
[QUOTE=cueballv2themax;32534634]but if you have a P&S which does good quality video, whats the problem? [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] you wanted something which takes photos too, this takes photos and makes video[/QUOTE] Modern Point and shoots can take videos as good as the Flip or whatever, right? No stupid time limits or anything? [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Or maybe even better?
pretty much any non-shit one can
check the specifications on cameras when looking around the store. Honestly a good point and click these days will do everything a 'cheap' camcorder like the flip does, though I don't know how high of resolution things can compare with. [QUOTE=cueballv2themax;32534590]im not a pro nobody here is except brian storey but he doesn't post round these parts any more[/QUOTE] heh

[editline]29th September 2011[/editline] I just haven't looked at cameras in so long. I have an old [URL="http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_archived_product_details.asp?fl=&id=1190"]Olympus Stylus 600[/URL] sitting around though... [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Examples of it's work: [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655356/Public%20Photos/Photography/P9290002.JPG[/thumb] [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655356/Public%20Photos/Photography/P9290003.JPG[/thumb] [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] So much dust! [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Then, my dad has a newer Sony CyberShot... It's all nice with it's fancy stabilization and stuff. [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Oh, and of course there's my phone's camera... [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] But that's only 1.3 Megapixel, and the Olympus is 6.0 Megapixel and I'm sure modern cameras are even better.
The flip does do 720p but my friend has a flip. And it's some shittty 720p, man. Since the sensor is so small, it's low light performance is garbage and sometimes under shadows, there is a lot of grain. IMO, don't get a flip. [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Megapixels don't Matter too much when it comes to image quality though. Btw [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Or if you want to spend 800 CAD for a Canon 550D/T2i, that thing has excellent video and takes very good images. I have one. :3
Get any point and and shoot with video. The cheapest compact John Lewis sell has HD video and takes pictures! Save yourself a few hundred dollars and don't get some super deluxe compact with features and specifications you'll never use or need.
Like I said, gonna look at cameras in Wal-Mart next time I'm there and see what I find. [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Thanks for the advice, thread.

[editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Thanks for the advice, thread.[/QUOTE] i'll post some samples from a flip compared with a d7000 consider though that the smaller bitrate from the flip will produce lower quality video but also smaller file sizes. the smaller sensor also means deeper DOF, whether or not that's a good or bad thing is up to you and your purposes but keep in mind this means that it should be easier to catch things in focus ~$100 for 720p/60 who's going to deny that even if it's from a tiny 1/4.5in sensor dag that's small
My friend is looking for a point and shoot for family holidays etc. he doesn't need manual controls or anything - he just wants to get nice pictures by pressing the button budget: £130 what should he get? thanks
Can't think of anything which gives nice pictures by just the press of a button. Without any photographic knowledge, you may as well tell him to get any point and shoot, it barely matters at all which one he gets.
I think the sony cybershot series give a decent picture on auto. Well they did in an urbex scenario. It was the Sony DSC-W350 I used it was quite nice, light and easy to use. Canon IXUS 220 HS Would be my recommendation. However, if he simply wants a point and shoot for holidays, he might as well just go into jessops, find one that feels and looks nice and then buy it on Amazon since anything for the P&S in the £150 bracket won't differ much outside of aesthetics for the uninterested.
What's a good "High End Casual" camera on the low end of that price range? I've been getting into photography, but I don't want to go all out just yet.
Has anyone here got a shaved Samyang 8mm on a full-frame body? I've been thinking of getting one with a 5d mkII, but so far all the pictures I've seen taken with it still have a little of the top and bottom cut off, instead of being a complete circle. I'm looking to use it for taking mostly hdri panoramas used in 3d modeling, so I'm not sure it even matters if the top and bottom are cut off, but it'd be nice to get confirmation anyway.
My 50mm 1.8 has just been collecting dust. It's kind of useless for what I take photos of now anyway. I've been mostly shooting abandoned buildings and skating photos. But the 50mm is just too zoomed in for what I want to do, (with the whole crop sensor it turns out to be like 80mm)

If you want to really LEARN about photography, there are better cameras in that price range.
is it worth getting a manual adapter for a om-10?
