Some of the best bodies in the world only go to 1/800

I got it, I was just adding to your point.
anyone use a lc-a/lc-wide? would you recommend it? i was looking for a canon super sure shot/AF35ML as well because of its 40mm f1.9 lens but it isnt the easiest camera to get hold of, theres a couple on ebay but they are a bit overpriced, if i wait there is a local camera shop that will probably get one in soon enough
i've found myself limited by 1/1000 or 1/2000 on my ME Super
neutral density filter
shooting what? sports maybe everything else 1/1000 is more than enough, just make sure your using slow film and a fast lens

Also, I don't get your point - sure slow film with a fast lens, but otherwise that seems a bit redundant.

£20 for 49mm one that i will only use occasionally
why does noone answer my question about the lc-a its the second time i asked now :(
to save you looking for my first post i want/need a 35mm automatic that is small enough to fit in a cycling jersey canon super sure shot or yashica t series seem the sensible option, lc-a seems slightly more interesting was wondering if people think its generally a good camera and if film advance and focusing is automated?
[release]
Wikipedia

The only automatic function offered by the LC-A is exposure. Film loading, winding, rewinding, focus are accomplished manually. Aperture can also be set manually, the shutter speed being fixed at 1/60s (this ability was removed from the LC-A+).
Exposure is completely automatic when the camera is set to "A"; the shutter speeds range from 2 minutes to 1/500 of a second. The aperture range is f/2.8 to f/16. The automatic exposure system compensates for changes in light levels after the shutter is opened by increasing or decreasing the shutter speed. This, in conjunction with the rear-curtain flash-sync, [1] results in interesting effects with flash photography in low ambient light levels.
The lens is focused by selecting one of four zones (0.8m, 1.5m, 3m & ). Older versions of the camera feature viewfinder icons showing the currently selected focus zone, a feature omitted from later models.
A battery checking feature uses a LED inside the viewfinder; if there is sufficient power this illuminates whenever the shutter release button is lightly depressed. Another viewfinder LED illuminates whenever the camera's chosen shutter speed is below 1/30s.
[/release]
bopie again, new avataring it up
Shit ain't designed to shoot wide open in broad daylight.
But yeah I'm mostly with cueball on this one: you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a picture taken with CaNikonTax's current entry levels but you'd feel the difference taking a picture with each of them. Point in case: I bought a perfectly fine 50 1.8; the cornerstone of a system's lens selection, but thanks to Nikon I depend on manual focusing with a blinking green dot on my viewfinder despite the lens having autofocus and I have to do a lot more menu surfin than I'd like. Shit's not nice and it's also blatantly unnecesary considering it's done to ''lower the prices''. Just keep that in mind.
what lenses do you recommend for the d5100?
I'm really not sure if I want to get a short fast lens, or go for a longer and/or zoom lens

Get a 35mm f/1.8
keep in mind that although the 35mm 1.8 would be better, the 50mm 1.8 is half the price

They're pretty much the same price, and the 35mm f/1.8 loves being shot wide open.

ah I was comparing the 50mm non-G one with the 35mm G one, is there a 35mm non-G one?
no
because the 50mm non g doesn't af on d5100 it's not worth comparing
D lenses won't autofocus on a D5100, it doesn't have the focus motor built into the body.
Nikon's almost got all the D lenses replaced with G lenses (with built in AF motors).
didn't you say image quality didn't matter ages ago? idk it was someone here
[editline]18th December 2011[/editline]
i mean, you are a nikon fanboy
you just try disguise it
If it's any consolation, I'm more of a Canon guy myself but I have a D5100 and I must say, it's a fantastic camera for both photo and video. It's no 5D Mark II though.
If I wanna get a canon 50mm, should I save up for the f1.4 or get the f1.8 because its a tad cheaper?
If you already have the Nikon lenses and you like how their cameras handle the d7000 is a thing of beauty (but if you don't have enough dosh you could always get a d90- not very good with video but awesome none the less).
Video would just be a nice addition, as long as it functions alright. Does the D90 hit the other points?
The d90 is a sick camera. Can pump out some great results.
Son of a bitch, I was going to get the D5100 at the end of November but I decided to wait until December. Stupid idea, prices on the camera went up by £120 in some places. So I'm going to wait until the January sales to get it.
Yeah I saw that too, Buddy. It's ridiculous isn't it!? I must have got one of the last in stock from amazon. Checked prices Wednesday and they were insane! Unlucky for not getting in on it. Amazon says they have them on back order.
I hope for you that places start selling them at a decent price again.
Tesco had them on sale for £549.99 (body + lens kit) then it went to £649.99 but luckily my friend works at Tesco so when they go down in price he will order one in for me and I can use his 20% discount.
