No not really
You are right, is not frowned upon
Thomas Paine and Montesquieu and John Locke three examples (of which there are many more) of Enlightenment philosophers that had a large influence on the American independence movement, montesquieu. Liberty, Religious Tolerance, Democracy, Republicanism all a large role in the American sphere of the enlightenment The colonists left europe to escape the social issues of Europe, such as absolutism, monarchy in general, and lack of freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, are undeniably Enlightenment ideals, and both play a key function in the constitution. Nowhere in the constitution does it mention christianity, jesus, god, or religion except to exclude it from playing a role in the government which is Secularism. All these were radical ideals of that day, an off-springs of the scientific revolution, the age of reason, the enlightenment. Separation of Church is State, is constitutional. This country was founded on the freedom of religion, but not on Christianity, nor any religion specifically.
:golfclap:
No not really
It should be incredibly obvious to the average person that the morality taught within a piece of holy scripture was most likely based upon the morality of the time it was written on. For example, the old testament was written thousands of years ago, and just by skimming through it you can see how morally corrupt it is by today's standards. There are lines within it that say women who are raped should be forced to marry their rapists, and many instances of gender inequality as well as racism.
Holy crap, what's with all the obvious trolling here? The second someone mentions religion on Facepunch a whole shitfest starts.
Holy crap, what's with all the obvious trolling here? The second someone mentions religion on Facepunch a whole shitfest starts.
Which brings us to post #44.
It's a debate. Go to a different thread if you don't like it. If you stay here and bitch about people arguing, you're missing the point of having a forum rather than a chatroom.
:golfclap:
I take that as a sign of your approval :madmax:
Holy crap, what's with all the obvious trolling here? The second someone mentions religion on Facepunch a whole shitfest starts.
Welcome to facepunch ;(
hahaha a debate....

Fuck off.

King James wanted everyone to go into his own church. And if they couldn't attend, and they were persecuted. People went into Jamestown because they want to seek fame and fortune. Years later, the settlers were doing fine then King George the Third wanted to be a dick by making acts that no one liked.
USA wasn't founded on god, it was founded on FREEDOM. :patriot:

Yeah, it is. I gave you the definition of a word that you're obviously too stupid to grasp.
hahaha mature [editline]08:41PM[/editline] Pilgrims founded it
They didn't found America, they've founded a place to stay away from King James, I don't even think that it was on America, it was in the Americas. They made the Mayflower Compact.
USA wasn't founded on god, it was founded on FREEDOM. :patriot:
Indeed.
sorry to burst your bubble but it is at least most of the laws afterwords are leaning to Christianity
Pretty much this.
Let me read to you the pledge of allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
There is a difference between colonial america, and The United States of America. Pilgrims founded colonial America. I wouldn't say that have a direct role in founding the United States of America.
without colonial america, USA wouldn't exist
They didn't found America, they've founded a place to stay away from King James, I don't even think that it was on America, it was in the Americas. They made the Mayflower Compact. Indeed.
It was on present-day Massachusetts.
Let me read to you the pledge of allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
They already clarified that.
Let me read to you the pledge of allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
That is not a legitimate piece of evidence towards that. The pledge of allegiance is not constitutional and has no bearing on the government or foundation of the country. It was written over a 100 years after the nation was founded. So just because it says "under god", doesn't mean anything. Furthermore, the words "under god" were added in 1954. The fact that is it says "under god" has no relevance, nor bearing in the argument.
without colonial america, USA wouldn't exist
Which is why I said they didn't have a direct role.
Someone on my facebook friends just said that Obama is really worse than Hitler, I'm scared [editline]06:51PM[/editline]
without colonial america, USA wouldn't exist
so?
I joined, along with a couple of my friends.
It was on present-day Massachusetts.
Scratch that incorrect statement from my sentence.
Someone on my facebook friends just said that Obama is really worse than Hitler, I'm scared [editline]06:51PM[/editline] so?
Lol, until Obama is directly responsible for the death of 6 million jews, and the cause for a war that caused the deaths of ~50 million people otherwise, I'd say he is nowhere close.
American laws are based off of the Judeo-Christian 10 commandments, thats as close to being founded on it as I can see. [editline]09:55PM[/editline]
There is a difference between colonial america, and The United States of America. Pilgrims founded colonial America. I wouldn't say that have a direct role in founding the United States of America.
They set the United States up to be made, that's pretty direct.
