Apparently they essentially threw away 2 games worth of buildup and made a really stupid, easy cop-out. I haven't played it though, that's just what my friends say.

Hard to explain if you haven't played the game(s). But in short it was full of plotholes and it didn't really reward you for the work you put into the last part.
