I haven't watched the endings, but I am guessing massive hype + minor letdown at end = extreme dissapointment.
Happens with all games if they are too overhyped.

From what I read, apparently (MAJOR SPOILER) [sp] if you aren't completely paragon you don't get the choice to make the illusive man kill himself, forcing you to either die or go renegade at the end, shooting the illusive man and saving the day. Thus taking away the player's choice, because if you try to be completely paragon but do some renegade shit (likepunching the reporter in the face) you don't get the option to completely save the day.[/sp]

But on the other hand, people also bitch at games like BioShock 2 because it gives you a bit of leeway with your choices/their consequences.
Wasn't it more about the endings being more or less rip-offs? I saw some pretty... polarizing YouTube videos that were titled "Mass Effect 3: Ending #1" or something but showed the ending cutscene of a certain very different game. :v:
I don't understand why people are freaking out. I enjoyed all three Mass Effect games and I enjoyed the ending as well.
