With a site that shitty he'll never get a case
Lets hope of no case. If he sues me then ill be fucked up
This is the most obvious troll ever and I have no idea how you managed to fall for it
I remember when someone tried going after me because I am running a corporation with several spinoff organizations under the names CelGen, CelGen Studios, CelNet, and CelGen Research (the last one being a joke name I was running where we made those little rings that shower curtains used but he mentioned it anyways to show how stupid he was). Anyways, after an initial "go fuck yourself", their fly-by-night cheap chinese asses never bothered to get back to me in regards of a lawsuit.
Look i dont want legal action against you. If i can somehow keep my league running please tell me of a NON copyrighted name.
My reply. Lets hope he is just a troll. If he drops it then he was serious. If he still goes at me then A He is serious or most common B a troll
Check to see if the copyright is registered, and for what. If it isn't registered, no lawyer would even try to represent him. If it isn't registered for something related to gaming at all, you're also in the clear (for instance, there's the Linux operating system, which is copyrighted, and Linux brand detergent, which is completely different, and isn't infringement). Odds are, one of those two applies. If not, you can probably fall under "innocent infringement", where you honestly didn't know it was copyrighted and you weren't trying to damage them, in which case the most you would get is a slap-on-the-wrist fine.
I don't think the OP's opponent here knows what he's talking about - QHCL does not appear in Wikipedia or Acronym Finder - the chances of a copyright actually meaning something here are practically nil.
That site was awful. At the bottom, the copyright line tells me to "Back off" because the site is copyrighted. The site is a joke, and it's also got tons of layout problems, I shouldn't worry Bobby, because he can't afford a good web designer, let alone a good lawyer.
ignore him, I doubt there's anything he can really do
Even if he owns the name, which he doesnt, the way he told was really dickish.

It's funny because you can't copyright words, phrases, acronyms etc... You can trademark them, but it has to be marked as trademark (And he would need to ask you to change the name of your website first as far as I know, but I'm not 100% sure on this). Either way "QHCL" is not registered as a trademark in the US.

Also for something to be copyrighted, it has to be something that's been created which has a basic idea lying behind it. A simple acronym won't do and this guy got no case in court either way. [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline]
So he cant sue me? Looks like i have a way to send him a Fuck You from england!
I'm 99% sure he can't sue you.
Guys an idiot. Ignore him or look into shooting him down by proving he doesn't have a solid case. I'd do number 2 to just show how much of a twit he is.
i copyrighted the word "the" you are all fucked
nope.avi They couldn't even copyright Blue-ray so they made it Blu-ray. And if he really wanted to sue you, all lawyer had already send you a letter by now.
I'd suggest against that, if he takes it to court, that wouldn't look good.
I waived the white flag at him. One guy who co owns this league said that changing it to OCFL- Online college football league will certainly put this behind us unless he already got the lawyers on this. but then he wouldnt win cause its an acronym and im out of country. But like garry its can be an overseas sue cause the server IS hosted in america [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] I wanna end it. I mean one false turn and im fucked. But i wanna tell this guy how much of an idiot this dumbass is
If he doesn't have the name copy righted he can't do shit.
he is just trollin you, He probably has no copyright or any rights to that name... is it a domain or something?
ignore him, he doesnt own anything. that website is a .webs.com, which is a free webhosting service. he doesnt own anything. also, qhcl.com doesnt exist.
Just went ahead and did a search for you. There are NO records of "QHCL" being registered as a trademark, and no records of it being registered as a copyright. No lawyer, even one not in his right mind, would take their case. Feel free to tell them to go fuck themselves. Actually, try registering a trademark on it yourself. Then YOU could sue THEM for infringement.
you can't copyright acronyms afaik
Oh god his site is hilariously bad. What a douche.
Actually, try registering a trademark on it yourself. Then YOU could sue THEM for infringement.
DO IT.
Hes a troll. Tagged for size.
Seriously register the trademark and sue his ass.
A "corporation" with a deviantart page? lol
AND youtube I should point out.
Its copyrighted. But i never knew about it. I just joined and already im slapped with legal issues
First off, you can't copyright "QHCL". You can copyright a WORK (book, song, etc.) with that title, or a sculpture of those letters, but you cannot claim copyright on the acronym. What he may have is a trademark. Even if he does have it (I searched the US trademark registry, it isn't trademarked), he still might not be able to sue you. It depends on what he's trademarked - if it's not being used in the same area of business, he's shit out of luck. For instance, Microsoft didn't win in it's suit against Vista Windows, inc. because computer operating systems are not in the same industry as panes of glass. Unless he has a video game or game company under the name "QHCL", he doesn't have a leg to stand on. Finally, no judge would actually award him money, even if he did win, because there's no damages. The most you would get is a court order to stop using that name.
AND youtube I should point out.
Tiger Direct has a youtube, what's your point?
He trollin you good
