• PCS: Pain in left side of chest

I have had this before. It went so bad I couldn't lay down without feeling like someone was wringing a knife into my side, I couldn't laugh because that felt horrible, and I couldn't breathe in all the way like you. I went to the doctor and did a scan but they reacted with the same frustrating confusion as everyone else. For me it lasts 2 weeks before going away, not 9 hours so consider yourself lucky. When it comes I have to sleep in my chair which is a bit awkward to my wife though :v:
Sounds a lot like something I have. Before anyone says anything, I've been to my GP and a heart specialist, and although they discovered a benign heart condition, they gave me a clean bill of health. Nevertheless, I sometimes experience a sharp pain in the left side of my chest, though it usually only lasts seconds, never more than half a minute or so. Maybe once every few weeks. It's not so terrible. Nine hours sounds like hell, though.
I don't know why this wouldn't be PCS which to my knowledge is completely harmless..
I had PCS when I was 14-18 or so. Very uncomfortable. In the less intense cases though I could take in one deep breath and feel a painful crack/pop and then the pain would disappear, but in the more severe cases it would be too excruciating to take that breath and I would have to do the usual short breaths until it stopped.
Holy jesus, I've finally found out what it is. I've had this since I was in primary school, I was a depressed little shit who never told anyone about it though. I still get it every now and then. Feels like a weight has been lifted off me
I get something similar to this every now and then, it only lasts for seconds though. Worsens when you breath in, very sharp stabbing pains in the chest / lung kind of area. No idea what it is though, never caused me too much trouble as it doesn't occur very often.
I used to get these quite often from as early as I can remember up until a couple of years ago. Being a typical man, I just ignored it and it seems to have gone away, but I may just be lucky. Dr Facepunch has it's limits, go see a (Second) real doctor.
It happened to me once or twice, from what I can gather, and from a doctor, it's cardiac muscles "cramping". More precisely, it's the chest muscles around your heart that strains. It's usually not dangerous if it happens once, but if it repeats for several days, you have to go see a doctor to check if it cannot worsen.
For quite a while now I've been experiencing random episodes of a stabbing pain in my chest at the left side. The pain comes suddenly, and makes it hard to breathe as the pain gets more and more intense the deeper you breathe. For me this pain lasts from everything between half an hour to nine hours (The longest experience I've had). In this condition I'm unable to move or reposition myself without the pain intensifying, I am also unable to breathe more than a set depth. I've had this condition for probably five years now coming and going as it wants, and I have no idea what started it. From what I've gathered of information, then the name of this condition is most likely "Precordial catch syndrome". Wikipedia lists this under symptoms: Its symptoms begin with a sudden onset of anterior chest pain on the left side of the chest. The pain is localized and does not radiate like heart attack pain typically does. Breathing in, and sometimes breathing out, often intensifies the pain. Moving also intensifies the pain. Typically this causes the patient to freeze in place and breathe shallowly until the episode passes. Episodes typically last a couple of seconds to three minutes. Which fits the description perfectly for me, except the part where it lasts often several hours for me. I do however believe it is the same condition that I have, just intensified. I looked around on the internet, and found out that alot of people are experiencing the same type of pain, but no-one seems to know what causing it, or what you could do to fix it. I'm making this thread because I'm sure more people here on Facepunch have experienced the same thing, and I would like to exchange experiences and know if any of you know something more than me about it.
pretty sure this was a thread once already and everyone was all "oh god i have this too" (that's how I know about it) it's completely harmless and everyone gets it, nothing to worry about
You have been hit by an orbital strike in the chest. Use medikit x2 to revive. On a real note, I have had the same thing since 1995 when I was five. Now at 24 I don't get it more than once a month, and sometimes once every 4 to 6 months. It's nothing to worry about IF and ONLY IF it is the condition that you mentioned, Precordial catch syndrome. If you have any doubts, do continue to look for professional evaluation until you can find some solid results.
I just had one of these today. Lasted 3 hours, came on suddenly, then eventually went away as quickly as it came. I was able to take maybe 75% of a normal breath, so I was able to continue what I was doing. But it's really quite scary, it is definitely related to the movements of breathing and skeletal movement.
I get this too, as someone said previously mine only lasts a few seconds and disappears after a deep breath is taken at the cost of pain.. I don't get it often, been happening since I was about 18
sounds like severe chronic PCS. Just because its common for people to grow out of it, and it may not be severe as yours, doesn't mean its still not PCS. Go see a doctor though if you got free health care. But theres no real red flags here to suggest it is cardiac, or a respiratory issues. Unless you're getting dizzy, confused, anxious, sweating a lot, feeling cold, or anything else outside of some minor left side pain I wouldn't be too concerned. But hey, still go to your doctor though, get an echo done, EKG done, Stress test done, and some labs. If your doctors still says its PCS, its probably PCS.
I've had this for the past 9 months or so. I get these mild sharp pains on the left side of my chest lasting a few seconds at least 5 times a day.
i've had this happen. i had it for a couple of days last year, i ended up waking up at 3am unable to breathe, the deeper my breaths the worse the pain. i started getting dizzy and panic mode was activated, i felt like i wasn't getting enough air. drove myself to the hospital, they did x-rays, jacked me all up on heart monitors, took my blood, they found nothing. did some research once i got out of the hospital 6 hours later and found out it may have been a precordial catch. relatively harmless but scary when you don't know what's happening to you.
