What do you guys think about an actual pixel wars game?

I have complete confidence in the idea, however, I suck at that kind of stuff so I can do nothing more than support you. Good luck
It would need freedom and lots of it, i dont just want to have infantry that have primary and secondary weapons, i want a lone ranger with a cuckoo clock that allows him to spawn mutant chickens to attack his enemy while he throws sausages at people while hitting people with a spoon.
That is essentially the freedom people should have.
The way your going about is just a men with guns
You need to make sure there can be medivial etc etc
Agreed with Livewire
(In like 10 mins I'll be off to the park to train with my mates so don't wait for a reply very soon if you ask me anything :v: )
it would be cool to have a pw game.

An example of what the HUD could be like, on the side is a scrollable panel of all your units, clicking on one reveals the sprites and animations, all armies are viewable on the site and ingame the same goes for maps, if an army is free it can be labelled so, and downloaded into another players library, you yourself have a maps library and an armies library maps can be your own or someone elses, before matches start the players can enter the database and discuss through chat or over mic which match to play on, other things could be implemented such as top army of the week and top match of the year etc.
That would seem ok
I still think pw should stay as it is now, theres no changing that
Even if a full pw game was made, people would still play the normal version.
That sounds good live
Also why woukld you want to make the bodies dissapear? its not like were playing an fps here, its just a picture im sure any engine can handle a few extra pixels.

We could still play both, no one is forcing us.
Hes not changing it, hes coding it into a real time game.
I believe, personally, Pixel/Picture Wars is only good because you decide the fate and create the battle yourself. With a game like this, you won't have the pencil tool to do this. :frown:
jeeze I thought this thread was dead because it was near the bottom of the page. Some troll just posted in every thread than deleted his account.
I still think this is a great Idea. you should post some updates like screenshots on this thread :D
I like the idea, but in reality this would be very hard to make and make work.
its just a side scrolling shooter that you can switch between troops/squads.
Seems pretty easy if you know how to code something like that.
although the customizing part would be hard to make....

Well making a side scrolling shooter is basic, and easy. Making it custom for users, however, and their own specifications, is a whole different project.
like I said in my post :v:
like I said in my post :v:
I'm enforcing your point here, I doubt this game will ever become anywhere near as good as speculated, but meh.
yeah.
I still look forward to it, even if it isn't as good as expected, at least it is a great idea and has good potential.
Just wanted to thank you guys for considering the idea and taking an interest in it. I appreciate the skepticism as much as I appreciate the optimism because both must be in balance in order to make sound assessments.
From what I can see in general you seem to like the idea of advancing pixel wars into a live experience and that inspires me because I share the same vision.
Wouldn't work that well really. You're better off making just another 2d rts.
What you are doing is essentially taking the most boring armies (the men with guns kind) and shoving them into a game.
If you had somehow managed to allow the players to make different armies, like, an army of butterflies that simply suck the juices out of you, or a giant archanid that spawns smaller spiders.
IF you somehow managed to capture the spirit of pw in an .exe or similar, then I salute you.
Interesting mindset, so you find it more interesting when the armies are unpredictable and weld any sort of weapon. I want to bring up that this is entirely possible with careful planning and layout. There are many avenues I could explore to make what you say possible, but we must also take into consideration order amongst the chaos. By that I mean there must be a way to create a structured system while still making it appear structureless. I'll think more on this and come back with the results.
Elf;21502036']I don't believe you have enough experience to do this, especially on your own. However, go ahead and I will support you as much as everyone else. I'll attempt to read your thread when time isn't throttling me.
I understand your skepticism from being on the outside, but this isn't the most challenging thing I've done by far. Making your own raytracer, now that's hard.

I really like that idea, something to definitely consider when the core engine is done.

I'll make a new thread when I start making visible progress for sure. I may even throw up a web page on my server where you can make comments.
I liked Lives HUD as well, though I think the side with your units should be a biiit smaller, that way more of the screen is shown on both sides. Maybe make it transparent and a darker more "relaxed" color.
This is going to be great once you start :D
Looks awesome!
How will it automatically make collisions? Its all pixels, what stops it from making the sky a collision, or back grounds?
Uh, ever heard of layers?

Coding.
Isn't it obvious?
Just wanted to let you guys know that tomorrow will mark the first day of development :D.
I'm just going to be laying out some of the basic framework for networking, rendering, and gui base.
Alright.
this will be sweet.
I dont support this idea
Reason why?
Well, i think that if its succesful, it would attract loads and, well, itd be different from here because everyone knows each other, whereas if theres a game like this, it would kinda be, a game, and thats it.

/Agree.
If you can actually get this working, then im up for it, maybe create accounts and be able to save armys ?
