ONE WAYWARD PINCH
Just think of me as a white American... erm... Biclops?
I'm not igniting it near anything flammable. I'm not that stupid. Most likely I'll wait until A) it cools off and B) I can get to a large patch of concrete and burn it over a bucket of sand. By griding it I was also referring to the individual components, not the end product. Fairly certain aluminum powder won't ignite and neither will rust.
Ah, but grinding it does increase the chance for it to spontaonously combust, which thermite has been known to do!
So sparklers are illegal, but the stuff that can burn through an engine block in seconds isn't?
Uh, no. You're not going to get that kind of heat out of Potassium Permanganate/Glycerin.
So sparklers are illegal, but the stuff that can burn through an engine block in seconds isn't?
Sparklers are illegal because the average idiot knows how to use it. Thermite requires immense heat to start combusting.
Use a strip of magnesium, it's very cheap off of ebay. But you may need a blowtorch to ignite the Mg Ooh I just thought, maybe if you had some VERY fine thermite, you might be able to ignite with a turbo lighter which reaches very high temps.
You can buy both Thermite and special Thermite igniting powder from United Nuclear. Edit: You can also get Potassium Permanganate, but no glycerol.
Where did you get the Thermite!? I want some Try water and metalic sodium Maybe burning magnesium? Put it on your mom's oven.
I suggest you not to play with thermite.
Do you know that thermite burns at 3000K? They find that in your house or you burning it or whatever and you might spend a while in jail.
Where did you get the Thermite!? I want some Try water and metalic sodium Maybe burning magnesium? Put it on your mom's oven.
You make it, it's not that hard.
You make it, it's not that hard. [editline]01:39PM[/editline] You're a stupid person.
I ment if he was burning it.
Whatever you do, do NOT put thermite on ice and then light it, it will fucking explode and rain down molten fire in the surrounding area.
It does in Dead Space so I would guess so.
Where did you get the Thermite!? I want some Try water and metalic sodium Maybe burning magnesium? Put it on your mom's oven.
Whadda' ya mean where did he get the Thermite? Rust and Aluminum Powder.
It wont create enough heat. Unfortunately
To clear this up Glycerin and Potassium Permanganate will not light thermite. I've tried using that and it simply doesn't get hot enough. Magnesium ribbon usually works. But the best way to do it I've discovered is to use the flash bomb fireworks. if you don't have those then the Magnesium ribbon would be your best choice. look something like this:
http://secure.sciencecompany.com/Magnesium-Ribbon-Roll-125-grams-P16144C0.aspx By sparklers, do you mean 4th of july sparklers? Those wouldn't ignite thermite....
You could also just use a blowtorch....
You could also just use a blowtorch....
No, i'm fairly certain it doesn't burn hot enough.

You could just buy some Thermite Ignition Mixture from United Nuclear. That's what I always do. Edit: Thermite is legal in the U.S.A. I got some off of United Nuclear last year. And about the Glycerin and Potassium Permanganate, That reaction is reasonably slow. You should have PLENTY of time to run away
You could move out of California.
You could move out of California.
That's a cheap and reasonable proposition for an unemployed high school senior. [editline]05:23PM[/editline]
I suggest you not to play with thermite.
Thanks for assuming I'm totally unaware of the risk, mom. [editline]05:25PM[/editline]
Do you know that thermite burns at 3000K? They find that in your house or you burning it or whatever and you might spend a while in jail.
You are aware that Thermite is used frequently in metalworking and is completely legal to use? I mean, you seem like a logical enough person not to talk out of your ass like that, right? :rolleye: [editline]05:26PM[/editline]
You could just buy some Thermite Ignition Mixture from United Nuclear. Trust me when the thermite flies up in the air your gonna wish you had some kind of delay. Its like little coals that never go out you would be fucked. Also you could try glycerin/potassium, it would work if you have it already. I don't think you'd have any metals like sodium so thats out of the question. One guy said a matchhead would be good enough. I'd just go on ebay and get some magnesium ribbon light it with a torch and it'll slow burn up to the mixture. Also if you have any left its freaking awesome when you get a bunch of it and go outside in the middle of the night and run around. Everything around you just lights up. But don't look at it or it'll fuck you up and then it will feel like there is sand in your eyes for awhile. May not sound bad, but it is probably what hell feels like. Well I'm guessing all I know it a pain you can't fix you feel helpless and blind.
No, i'm fairly certain it doesn't burn hot enough.
A blowtorch can cut threw metal. Your not very intelligent are you. Thermite is simply a mixture of a few metals namely aluminum.
Using a blow torch is a very VERY bad idea. Unless you want your arms, legs and face covered in molten metal pieces
Thanks for assuming I'm totally unaware of the risk, mom.
If you really were that intelligent, you would probably already have found it out by yourself than asking FP. Answering your question, yes Glycerin and Potassium Permanganate can ignite Thermite. But if you already can obtain Glycerin and Potassium Permanganate why not just get some Magnesium ribbons or a sparkler? They are much more easier to get if you ask me and much more "stable" Anyhow, the reaction between Glycerin and Potassium Permanganate can exceed 1000C, which makes it possible to light Thermite. Just cover it with the Potassium and drip some Glycerin. [editline]12:42AM[/editline] By the way, this is a sparkler. Maybe you thought it was something else.
How much Celsius do you need to ignite Thermite anyway?
