Okay, VAC goes by engine, so if you cheat in CS:S, you can't play any other source game in multiplayer(Does not include Gmod). If you cheat in Gmod and get banned, then your banned from Gmod, not any other Source game. If you cheat in Goldsrc then you are banned from all Goldsrc games. Also, there's a 50/50 chance you will be banned and you won't be banned. Most of the time, if you hack twice, you will be banned. So if you hacked once, and never again, you most likely won't get banned, but if you hacked more than once than VAC is most likely absolutely sure that you were cheating.
Except you cant get banned from Gmod...
If you cheat in Gmod and get banned, then your banned from Gmod, not any other Source game.
Going to keep posting this until people realise the truth:
This does not happen. Refer to Chrisaster's post for greater detail.
thank you some news i accually want to hear! :D

GMod doesn't have its own engine version anymore. If you were somehow banned then it would (I assume) apply to all Source games.
I was saying that in the position that you were banned from Gmod, even though you can't, you would still be able to play other source games, It was just for emphasis. I could be wrong here, maybe you do get banned from all Source games, its just never happened so no one would know. Just my 2 cents.
Hey, I used cheat engine for about 2 minutes on a dod server with speedhacks about 3 weeks ago will I get banned?
using a public hack? yeah you will, you have 2 weeks left of being unbanned if it was detected, and all it takes to get detected is connecting to a server
also vac can never ban you for material exploits, transparent wall textures for example
VAC detects ANYTHING
I played around with speedhacking in Pirates, Vikings and Knights 2 (VAC/Source) over half a year ago. I did it for a full week. Still no ban.
VAC isn't amazing nor is it accurate. You're probably fine, OP. If you get banned a lot from servers/do it all day/have a Valve employee catch you, you're fucked.
thank you doom. And i know for a fact PVK uses the same engine becuase it is a HL2 mod.

Its actually been 5 weeks. He corrected himself. He most likely will not be banned.
no about 3 1/2 to 4

vac bans have been known to occur even months after being used, if op used a very new hack maybe he didn't get detected. or if he used it in garrysmod which doesnt detect or count bans
Yes, but at this rate, I doubt he will be banned. He used it for such a short period, and only once, and its been about a month since he's done this, and no news.
it was cheat engine, well ill have fun playing tf2 for the next 2 weeks, man it feels like im squidward waiting for spongebob to blow up :(
One other thing that should be mentioned; if you are VAC banned from other Source games, I'm assuming you are still able to play GMod due to its lack of handling for backend->server callbacks.
haha WRONG
Over time the hacks will be found, if they say it is undetectable, odds are it has been found out. Happened to me once, also if you are VAC banned from say CSS or DODS you are VAC banned from ALL games, except for GMOD. For some reason, I can still get on VAC servers with my old account.
VAC bans are per engine, per developer.
Meaning (theoretically) you could get VAC banned on GMod and it would not affect Valve's games. Keep in mind, however, you cannot be VAC banned in GMod.
Nevertheless, everyone in this thread (except Chrisaster) needs to stop posting. None of you understand the internals of how detection and processing works, in addition to if VAC is even enabled.
VAC is simply a detection and flagging system. VAC does not ban players. The game's developers do. Additionally, VAC is an op-int system through Steamworks. Developers have the option of controlling how VAC behaves for their game.
VAC's detection methods range through quite a few methods: engine file manip, memory editing, vtable hooks, detours, and then some other "super sneaky" things that are unknown.
VAC has never been a fully automated system. It simply reports to the Valve back-end when something has been detected, and most likely flags the account for review with the Steamworks/Source engine licensee.
In the case of GMod, it's not fully enabled, or fully disabled. Servers can report as VAC secure, but this doesn't mean anything. This is probably a consequence of the fact that lua modules exist. You cannot be VAC banned in GMod. It's physically impossible at the current moment. The connection to the VAC backend that is responsible for denying connections to VAC secure servers is never handled correctly.
thank you VoiDeD. Finally an expert... so i still might not get banned i think my chances are pretty good i flipped a coin AND im going to church. VALVe cannot compete with the power of God!!! MUAHHAHAHA

So, if you report hacking to a Valve employee, does this mean that they will actually read the report? As people said before, apparently reporting does nothing.
thank you VoiDeD. Finally an expert... so i still might not get banned i think my chances are pretty good i flipped a coin AND im going to church. VALVe cannot compete with the power of God!!! MUAHHAHAHA
Basing on what VoiDeD said above, it's possible they'll look at the evidence and notice that you quit the game after a few seconds. Though, there's also the large possibility they'll just make sure it was a valid infraction and then click the "approve" button.

VAC is evidence based. A Valve employee will be able to approve a ban, but they can't create bans.

Ah okay thanks for clarifying.

Doesn't mean anything for your case.
Hey, I used cheat engine for about 2 minutes on a dod server with speedhacks about 3 weeks ago will I get banned?
If you meant DoD:S, your account has probably already been flagged.
Cheat Engine's speedhack is simply a detour over GetTickCount. Best bet is that VAC easily flags this.
So, if you report hacking to a Valve employee, does this mean that they will actually read the report? As people said before, apparently reporting does nothing.
Valve has stated before that they won't take reports from other players. "My word vs. Your word" doesn't play well.
The more I read your frantic and incoherent replies, the more I think you deserve a VAC ban.
well maybe this will help me i always try to find out ways to hack/mod/glitch games or life.
well maybe this will help me i always try to find out ways to hack/mod/glitch games or life.
That's depressing.
well maybe this will help me i always try to find out ways to hack/mod/glitch games or life.
But you realize you're not even hacking. You're just using a GUI... it's nothing special...

Nah you are super fucked.
VAC is enabled, it just doesn't ban for anything - all infringements are simply logged. You can even get away with not connecting to VAC on GMod.
:ssh: It's funny to see all the rems talk about something they know nothing about.
So I can make a new account? But I paid $75 for valve pack :(
That's what you get.
I smell a troll.
Anything it's been programmed to detect. There's these people who constantly use bleeding edge technology to stay a step ahead of VAC when Valve updates it to detect new shit.
bleeding edge? hah. you can edit memory without vac detecting it by causing an exception and altering memory via eip then returning empty context on getthreadcontext. this has worked since 05.
