Today, in German class the teacher gave us a goddamn hard job to do.
I was swearing and said to my friend "Goddamn this is imbossible"
He said to me "Don't believe in you, believe in me that believes in you!"
For a moment I was dumbfounded, then I replied back "ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH"
Then we brofisted
Goddamn, last week I told him about TTGL and that bastard had watched it in under a week without telling me :v:
A beginner being someone who has never used a computer.
The only thing Windows has that Unix-like operating systems don't is games. And even then you can use Wine.
I don't see one single way a person would learn how to use Linux faster than Windows if they've never used a PC before.
Wine fucking sucks in all possible ways. Also the fact that Linux will never get it's hands on DirectX ruins all reason to play games on a Linux. I played CS: S at 200-300FPS on my pc with everything on high and 2x antialiasing back in the days, and when I played on Linux I had to use OpenGL causing everything to be on the lowest settings possible... And it LAGGED!
Wine needs to be updated all the time to support new versions of stuff. Back when Photoshop CS3 was new (a couple of months old) I was stuck with CS2, which didn't have a flawless installation going on either.
To install stuff you need to do research on it on the net instead of just downloading one simple installer that does all the job your you and asks if you want some extra stuff or not or simply manually pick out things. On Linux you need to find someone that has been kind enough to give you the text you have to copy paste into the whatever-it-was-called-again to get it working.
You think anyone completely new to a PC would find out how to use a net browser? And then on top of that search for what he/she needs? I see people all the time in this thread and generally on the forums and real life going around asking for the simplest things that is COMPLETELY OBVIOUS to find by spending 5 seconds typing a search into google. "Photoshop download".
But nooooo.
They spend 5 days waiting for answers from people telling them to google it. This goes for people that have been on the net and been using a PC for over 5-15 years!
So don't give me no bullshit about Linux being easier to use for someone new. Windows is as simple and user friendly as it can get. It gives you warnings and pop up boxes asking you for everything, which means your average newbie can feel more safe (and become paranoid) when doing stuff. They don't just hope for the best or asking everyone else for answers. They get it explained... Too well. Luckily you can turn off most of them of course.
Well, it would be a very rare case, but just imagine someone who has never used a computer before starts off with, say, Ubuntu. It's his/her first OS ever so they'd get used to it. That's extremely rare, though.
DUH! Everyone will get used to what they use. Thanks captain obvious!
Most is a stretch. It does run most games, just doesn't run them all well.
Also, Linux works with most hardware out of the box. And if it doesn't have hardware specific drivers then at very least it will have generic drivers.
Support is all over the place, there are tons of forums, IRC channels, etc.
And I'd say ease of use and accessibility depends on what the person in question is used to. Imo Windows is terribly organized.
osu runs fine in Wine. Touhou runs even better, and imo Touhou is a much better game.
Doesn't run them well AT ALL. Becuase it lacks COMPATIBILITY/SUPPORT to run them well.
Windows and MAC works with all hardware out of the box. Unless you're thinking about minimum requirements. But that really just depends on what version of windows you're going to use.
XP and Windows 7 will work with all hardware that is sold these days, right out of the box. Vista has higher requirements.
I don't understand why people use something other than Windows. It's like using a search engine that isn't Google.
Preference.
There is nothing wrong with using Linux or MAC, it just comes up to what you prefer.
I would have stuck myself with Linux had it just had more support for stuff. MAC is really just a matter of design.

Oh awesome, I wish I could do that with someone awesome and capable to handle the manlyness of TTGL.
I don't know if some of you have read this, but this one made me cry a bit (in sadness). And, much to unusual, it involves Cirno.
It gives a new light to the meaning of the phrase 'Cirno is the strongest'. After reading this, I feel that this is one of the epics (with the true meaning of the word) that I will cherish throughout my days as a writer.

Linux does have games.
Yeah, I'm sure a beginner would understand how to use the command line to install a program better than just clicking an icon and following instructions.
It's much easier to install software on Linux, since most distributions have utilities like aptitude or yum and often a gui with that.
Ease of use, accessibility, support, compatibility, etc.
Wine sucks and is unreliable. It can't play most games.
Ease of use: It's there.
Accessibility: It's there.
Support: Have you ever heard of the Linux community?

Of course it lags if you're emulating it. OpenGL is actually better on DirectX with native code, and that's a fact.

What are you talking about? What distro did you use? As I said earlier, most distros have GUIs with centralized repositories where you can search and download applications at great speeds. It's way easier than wading through the pond of shitty malware on Windows.
Also, nitpicking, Macintosh is not an acronym, don't write "MAC".

Ubuntu.
Hi, I'm a MAC, and I'm a PC!
Apple wants their OS to be called MAC, I obey.

Ubuntu has a GUI frontend so you can easily search and install applications.
How about we shut the fuck up about stupid Linux already.
Everything else in linux is perfect (after you have spend the half day getting the drivers working) except the fact that it lacks Photoshop or even PSP or any acceptible photo editor. And don't give me "but it has GIMP" Even I can conclude that it fucking sucks.
Inkscape is the sex.
I rarely ever play any games nowadays.
