You could try and open it and see what the deal is.
I have a bad addiction of taking apart stuff that is broken just to see if it is fixable and how it got messed up in the first place... Help me!
the deal is oil, i don't have the means to get rid of the oil or take apart and reassemble the aperture. plus it's not a well documented lens.

Ouch, well in that case I would probably sell it, you might take less of a hit than getting it fixed. Of course you never know, I would get some estimates for getting it fixed.

Buddy of mine picked up one of these for $30 in 2008. I would say as long as the optics are good and everything works it seems like a good price.

If it's a AI lens it's a nice price.
But if it's non-AI it wont even fit your D3100(if you do try to mount it you will damage your camera!), so watch out.
In my scope it looks like a non-ai mount version, but i could be mistaken. I have a 35mm 2.0 non-ai which looked exactly like this version, but i've sanded down the aperture ring myself so it's useable on any nikon slr.
On how to determine if it's AI or not: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5366/~/what-is-the-difference-between-an-ai-lens,-an-ai-s-lens,-and-non-ai-lens%3F
looks like an AI lens, the max aperture is orange and the grip is the restyled kind.

I once put a lens with oily aperture on a central heating radiator for some time.
The aperture worked fine after a hour on it, but it got slow again when the lens got back to normal temperature.
But it's something worth the try, maybe it will work for you?
Just one note, don't let the lens make direct contact with the radiator itself (wrap it in something), because chances are that it could melt the plastic of the lens. But yeah it's kinda obvious.
i'll try it out! speed isn't an issue for me because i use it on my nex, i just need it to move at all lol (adapter only does DoF preview so oil is non-issue). right now it's just stuck widdeee open. the heat makes sense so i'll try that when i get home.

Put the mount up for $99.99. We'll see what happens there, as for the rest, I have no idea.

The Tamron 28-200 would go for about 35 usd without mount i would reckon.
As for the other lenses, i honestly don't know too.

I'm dumb and mentally ill, here's more pictures, you tell me if it's AI or not
[t]http://bimg2.mlstatic.com/s_MLA_v_F_f_137583226_9845.jpg[/t][t]http://bimg1.mlstatic.com/s_MLA_v_F_f_137583226_5428.jpg[/t]
Also I misread and it's an auction, what's the most I should pay for it
You can tell if a lens is AIS when:
The minimum aperture (both the main larger and smaller direct read out figures) are marked in orange i.e. F16,
yep it's AIS. don't know what to pay for it though.
also frag, if that aperture lens doesn't work, do you think i should get it fixed, or try and sell it and buy a 90mm 2.8 zeiss contax lens (same price).

It's not AI because It does not have the coupling ridge at the end of the aperture ring.
The first picture of my link showed a AI lens with it's ridge as you can see here:

The picture under that one is a NON-AI lens as shown here:

The difference between ai and ai-s is one really small thing on the mount that this lens does not have.
I quote from the site: "A notch has been taken off the rear bayonet mount, above the lens locking notch. This allows certain Nikon cameras to detect if an Ais lens is fitted or not. See images below."

Left one is a normal AI lens and the right one is a AI-S lens with the difference marked in the red circle.

Well i think that a CLA is not that expensive for these lenses. So i would try to get It fixed. I dont know a lot of shops that do that bit you could try contacting Jim buchanan. I don't know if he does CLA's but he does convert lenses and stuff so he should know someone i guess. Anyway, i think a CLA will cost you around 50 USD. Im on my phone so Im having a hard time pasting links here so ill do that when Im on my pc.
there's a camera shop my friend lives by, i tried to get a phone quote but they wouldn't have it, i'll have him bring in the lens though. just hoping it's not more than $50
Looks like a Lowepro backpack.

Holy crap that is one expensive bag.
Holy crap that is one expensive bag.
I was like, "Ha, it's a Lowepro, it'll be reasonably cheap. Someone should post a Billingham or something." Then I saw. :O
I'm happy that I don't do the type of photography that requires a backpack like that. I'd prefer a $250 Billingham to that bag.
My dad said that I should start researching for a camera store down in the states since we're going there in a few days.
I asked you guys before, but I don't think any stores down there will carry Pentax K-rs and K-xs.
Now what :(
Where are you going? Any city with more than 100,000 people will have at least one camera shop. I've seen plenty of photo stores, and pretty much everywhere I've been to has had at least the KX out on display.
in actual camera shops you should find pentax. but if you go to like an electronics store (stuff like best buy) you'll just find canon and nikon DSLRs, and a couple mirrorless cameras
I'm going to Washington, Seattle. I've visited many camera stores before, and I've only seen one Pentax K-r, ever.
[editline]18th March 2012[/editline]
Although, I just found a store in Seattle that mainly sells vintage cameras...
You can find some camera stores in Seattle that carry Pentax, then call them and order the cameras you want. They normally get there within a few days, so it should match up nicely, especially if you'll be there for a few days.
ETA: Actually, I'm gonna assume that you're looking for a film camera. Ignore that.
ETA: Oh, you mean K-r (plural) and K-x (plural)... Then my way works.
I'll see what I can do. If I can't get one of those, I'll try for a D5100 maybe.
Thanks
This nifty little lens arrived just on time. I've got the perfect gig for it tomorrow.

found a mint Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm 1.4 (55mm thread, so 2nd version) at goodwill for $12, wonder how much it'll go for on ebay
they had a shitload of gear today. There was one of these but with a 2.8 lens

canon fd 50mm f1.8, olympus film 50mm f1.8, a pentax m42 camera with a takumar 55mm f2, a 28mm f2.8 m42 lens with some m name, and a couple zooms. but i got the best value, hoping it'll flip for enough money to get my 24mm repaired
Just bought a Nikon 35mm f/2 and Canon 28mm f/2.8 off Keh for $100. I'll post some footage when I get a chance, but so far they've been great lenses. The focus rings are nice and smooth and the 35mm f/2 has nice bokeh.
I just bought a Nikon 35mm f/1.8, and it's my first lens after getting a nifty fifty, I hope it'll be useful to me. I always felt the 50mm was about to tight to work with sometimes.
Whats a good cheap camera lens? I've been living with a Canon 24-105 L for a while now, would love to get a little wider. I also have a budget of $1500 and under.

Depends on the camera you have.
If you have a crop sensor camera you might want to try the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 if you want a nice fast lens or a Sigma 8-16mm 4.5-5.6 if you want the widest thing you can get.
If you have a full frame camera perhaps a Samyang 14mm 2.8 (manual focus only but being a wide angle pretty much everything will always be in focus) is cheap and if you correct the somewhat weird distorsion is also quite a good lens considering the price, if you want the widest possible try the Sigma 12-24mm 4.5-5.6, wider than that you will only find fisheye lenses but they of course are not rectilinear.
Otherwise you have the Canon alternatives if you want to stick to Canon lenses only (10-22mm 3.5-4.5 and maybe the 14mm 2.8 if you find a used one in your price range).
Not really sure where to post this but does any one have any good recommendations for a vlogging camera?
well you could buy one of those zenitar lenses that jaanus bought and adapt it.
Not really sure where to post this but does any one have any good recommendations for a vlogging camera?
Do you mean something like a webcam, or a camera you can walk around with handheld?
Can anyone suggest any cheap, good alternatives to Pocket Wizards. There's loads of wireless flash shoes on Amazon but I don't know which one is the best to go for.
Help.
Thanks.
