Fujifilm are sending me an X-Pro 1 with all three primes for review next week, can't wait to get my hands on it, hopefully it'll make me want it less thus saving me money. [editline]29th May 2012[/editline] No merge.
How can you get things sent to you to review?
How can you get things sent to you to review?
I have a background in reviewing audio equipment (specifically headphones), they just asked for my website, a few of my reviews and my website traffic, Fuji PR are extremely nice, Olympus I had a few issues keeping in contact with (they seem to 'lose' emails often) but they're waiting on new stock to send me an OM-D E-M5 as they've had high demand apparently.
I think it would be quite interesting being a reviewer, that and the use of free tech.
I seldom get to keep some of the more expensive things though, but it is fun to have time with them, sometimes a shame to let them go if it's a specifically great item, but every so often I get lucky (Just recently been able to keep Audeze LCD-3s), it's more of a hobby and not a job as I only get paid in things I review as I have no advertisements on my website, I've been offered a little money on the side to host product specific advertisements (mostly Sony) but that's about it.
Anyone got any opinions on the Nikon 35mm 1.8G? I already have a Nikon 50mm 1.8D and it is awesome for portraits but it'd be nice to have a wider lens for group shots. I do have a Sigma 24-70mm, which I have used for some great group shots before, but it is very heavy. Is it worth going for the 35mm considering my current lenses or should I just stick with what I've got?
it's excellent.
The 35mm 1.8G is a very sharp lens even wide open. Distortion and CA are somewhat higher than the 50mm 1.8, but that's very easy to correct in post processing. I wish Canon would have such a lens.

We need more affordable Canon prime lenses imho; that's what i meant basicly.
Just got my third Olympus XA. The needle meter doesn't work and the shutterbutton was loose so the slightest bump made it trigger. I fixed that but the meter is still borked. Shutterspeeds seem fine though but it would be nice to have a functional meter. I'm having bad luck with Olympus XA purchases it seems

How do you guys feel about the Canon 16-35mm L lens? (First model.)
How do you guys feel about the Canon 16-35mm L lens? (First model.)
Decent lens and cheaper to get filters for than the second version (version 1 is 77mm while version 2 is 82mm). Optical performance is quite good, almost as good as the version II.
For anyone else wondering about the Nikon 35mm 1.8G it really is a cracking little lens I'm glad I bought it. It's a lens that is very fun to use.
How do you guys feel about the Canon 16-35mm L lens? (First model.)
Used the 2nd model but that on a 5D MKII is really nice, i love how wide it gets. It's really fun to use
Hey guys, I haven't posted in the photography forum in awhile, but I'm in need of some advice. I purchased a wireless trigger for my flash (and studio lights) that is to be used with my Canon T3i. The flash is synced up with camera properly and will go off whenever I take a picture. The problem I'm having is in all of the pictures there is a dark shadow line on the bottom of the picture. I've tried taking several different test photos, moving the separated flash unit in different locations, and yet it still is giving me this shadow bar. Here is an example of the shadow: http://i.imgur.com/d0MxW.jpg (excuse the terrible quality) Anyone know how to fix this?
Woo! So fuck my Cyber-shot, we got our Nikon FG working and I've decided I'm going to use that instead.

I believe it is 1/200 for your Canon T3i.

If you're over 1/200 or something that will happen
Hmm, I guess that's the same with any third party though. But even so, I'm sure they would recalibrate it for you if you contacted their support. I heard there was some backfocus problems with some of their older lenses but most of those are out of circulation now anyway.
Correct yes, send your camera body along with your lens. They will calibrate your lens to your body. That being said, I'm not sure if they'll keep your sensor clean or not. Maybe irrelevant, but some guys sent in bodies to Canon, and they came back twice as dirty.
What are you shooting at? If you're over 1/200 or something that will happen
Very useful information, thank you gaboer and wchan. edit: How would you go about using a faster shutter speed with flash? It would seem that the 1/200 is the fastest the T3i can go while using a flash unit, so thus I would have to have a camera that is capable of higher speeds? Do the lenses, flash units, or wireless remotes have anything to do with it?
So I got a "V2 LCD Viewfinder" via ebay today. (FYI, there is a V1 model for the Canon 5D / 7D / 500D, V2 is for T2i and Nikon D90. V3 is for 600D / T3i and 60D. I'm using mine on my T2i.) Heres my impressions! Pros: Its dirt cheap. The build quality of the item is actually pretty decent, though the eyecup could serve to be a bit more rigid however. Still, I can press my head against it a decent amount for some stabilization. The magnifying lens is focused correctly and looks good. The eyecup fits my normal sized head and it blocks all the light trying to get in. (Your mileage may vary.) Cons: The way it mounts. It comes with a metal mount you glue to your LCD with strips of adhesive preattached. Then the viewfinder itself clips to it via magnets. The metal mount they give you looks like it would scratch up the LCD in a second. It feels super cheap and has sharp edges on it. Even if the 550D / T2i is a relatively cheap body, I still wouldn't risk it. Thankfully all isn't lost because before I bought the V2 I also ordered a Glass LCD Screen Protector. This hasnt come in the mail yet but it should be soon. This LCD cover clips on via the eyecup. This wasnt my idea, but I picked it up from this guy on youtube! The cost together was roughly 30 dollars, a far cry from the 400 dollar Zacuto viewfinders. This allows you to protect your screen and gives you a great way to clip it to your camera. I'll post again once I receive the item and glue them together. PS: If you are in the US like I am make sure you find these items from an American seller. There are tons on ebay coming straight from China, and that takes FOREVER to get through the mail.
I found a D5100 on Ebay with a stuck shutter curtain for $299.99 (No lens). Is that an easy fix that I'd be able to do myself? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-D5100-Digital-SLR-16-2mp-Camera-Body-DSLR-AS-IS-stuck-shutter-curtain-/110891379814?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item19d1a42c66 I'd have to buy a separate kit lens, but those aren't so bad.

I mean a stuck shutter curtain on a 35mm film camera might be fixable with ease, but on a digital body, theres just too many things you can screw up. I'm not an expert though so maybe it's easily fixable in some magical way
Just got my 30mm 1.4 in the mail, seems to be working properly, autofocus works most the time, but I can understand there will be some hit and miss
hello everyone, I've just aquired a Minolta Dynax 300si which came with the kit lens but the previous owner had managed to shear off two of the bayonet points, so would anyone know if this would fit and work? But basically on a speedflash with it compatible on the camera hot-shoe you can shoot at faster speeds by having the flash fire a lot. There is less power but it's quite useful. I've been able to use flash at 1/4000 even.
We got some new gear: (Light reflector, holder, stand, three new background colors (gray, blue, brown) and a wireless flash/shutter trigger. The light isn't new.)
