Gear discussion thread v. "I own more nifty fifties than cameras they fit"

I need some advice if anyone has the time to offer it.
Someone has offered their GF1 m43 with kit lens, aswell as optical viewfinder and electronic viewfinder, along with four pentax SMC lenses (or so I can make out in the picture, one of them I have no idea), in trade for my Fujifilm X10, does anyone know if this will be a good deal for me or I should stick with the X10?
Here's a picture of what he's offering:
http://i.imgur.com/yCW01.jpg
SMC Pentax-M 100mm f2.8
SMC Pentax-A 50mm f1.7
SMC Pentax-M 35mm f2.8
SMC Pentax -M 28mm f2.8
GF1 body + 14-42 kit lens
Hotshoe EVF
Hotshoe OVF
And a snapsort of the cameras (price differences are very wrong).
http://snapsort.com/compare/Fujifilm-X10-vs-Panasonic_Lumix_DMC-GF1
What worries me is the image quality difference as the GF1 is quite a bit older than the X10, despite the bigger sensor, aswell as the X10 being much easier to use due to size and zoom lens compared to all the primes for the GF1, and the GF1 lenses are all manual focus which again, might get annoying.
Cheers.
I wouldn't do that.
The GF1 is a old camera, and it's value isn't that high anymore although it includes the 14mm lens and electronic viewfinder. The ISO performance of the GF1 is usable up to 800 ISO(the DXO Noise comparison on snapsort isn't correct). Noise performance of your X10 is better than that. Especially JPEG of the GF1 is also very dissapointing and the X10 is clearly better at this(this will be no problem if you shoot raw all the time).
That 14mm lens isn't that expensive too, being offered for about 130 usd on ebay new. Performance of the 14mm is okay, but not as good as the 20mm f/1.7 lens.
And the pantax lenses are nice lenses with their optical performance, but indeed not that convenient to use because they are not that compact. As far as i can see he is offering you the following pentax lenses:
Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8
Pentax-M 35mm f/2.8
Pentax-A 50mm f/2
Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8
All except the 100mm f/2.8 aren't that spectacular lenses, and can be obtained very cheap secondhand.
All in all I am thinking if you would really want to do this trade, the person wanting your X10 has to pay extra money to you because his set is just way more cheaper to get.
But as I said in my first sentence: I wouldn't do this trade.
Well SMC Pentax lenses are generally very good lenses with a rather high price tag (for old manual focus lenses)
Also I prefer the styling of the X10 so I wouldn't do the trade.

I don't know what you call high, but i can give you a list of prices that these lenses would go for:
Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 - 45 euro
Pentax-M 35mm f/2.8 - 35 euro
Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 - 45 euro (because of the Auto mode on it)
Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8 - 85 euro
Okay, not as cheap as the most usual no name shit, but it's not too expensive in my opinion because despite the lenses are not that spectacular they are still miles better than any other third party cheapo lens.

Well they are fairly expensive to me saying my most expensive lens was £15
Cheers for the replies lads, definitely helped, I think I'll stick with the X10 for now, might be easier than having to lug around the myriad of lenses, some of the newer features of the X10 would be hard to let go of too.

I picked up my Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 for my MX on eBay for ~$25 + P&H, and it takes lovely photos.

Was poking around the house last sunday, found my dad's 31-year-old Minolta XG-M, one of those good old 35mm SLRS.
Here it is, fitted with a 35-135mm f3.5/22 lens from Sigma, and to the left Minolta's own 50mm f1.7/22 lens.
(Please excuse the quality, these pictures were taken with an HTC Wildfire)
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/IMAG03793.jpg[/t]
My dad hasn't used it for over a decade so it's been gathering dust on top of a shelf in his study. I've already fitted it with new batteries, so all that's left to do is clean it up a bit and buy some film.
[t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/IMAG03782.jpg[/t]
Another picture with a better view of the top; you can see it's all manual. In the viewfinder, there's a list of shutter speeds at the right hand side, with a LED next to each. The only thing the camera does automatically (next to actually flipping the mirror up and down) is light up the LED next to the appropriate shutter speed; it will also use this shutter speed unless you manually designate one with the ring at the top right. The letter B (for "BULB" apparently) lets you control the shutter speed directly via the shutter release.
So, while saving up for my own true DSLR, I'll be toting around my dad's old buddy and see what pictures I manage to get.
(Sorry for eating your bandwith by the way!)
It'll be a good first SLR for you, it looks in pretty decent condition, as long as you have an idea of how to use it, it should get you some good photos
Thanks! I've been reading up on DSLR photography (including things that should also apply to SLRs) and I guess I could also ask my dad. But I hope to put that knowledge to the test and get some good photos doing it. :P
I'm thinking of swapping my Lumix G10 for a Canon 500D (Second hand + plus cash). No idea if I'm going to do it, but I was wondering what sort of cheap-ish lenses are good for the Canon, and if the Camera is worth considering in your opinions.

yeah um plump for the 550D you won't reget it
So there's going to be a Canon 40mm f/2.8 Pancake lens. Do want.
Hopefully it won't be too expensive.

I've been wanting a Canon pancake lens since I got my camera, I hope the keep the price under $300 so I don't have to divert to much money back to Camera equipment.
40mm f/2.8 vs 50mm f/1.8
i think, even despite the pancake factor, i'd go for the slightly tighter significantly faster one.

I already own a 50mm f/1.8, but still want this lens, if the price is right.
Plus that the AF should be less noisier on this lens than the 50mm f/1.8 grinding mill motor.
It's rumored the Canon pancake lens won't be anymore than $200! :)
What about holding on/saving up for the Nikon D3200? Have you considered that?
I have, but the grip is horrible. It's hard to hold with my hands.
DSLRs look very silly with pancake lenses
Hey guys. A mate of mine has 100-200 pounds to spend on a camera (Oh, and he's in India so you can expand that budget by about 100 pounds).
I don't know what to recommend him.
Do you guys know of something basic that isn't a piece of shit so that I can point him to?

T4i with the 40mm f/2.8. Doesn't look as disproportionate as I expected it to.

$200 on B&H, definitely picking one up. Continuous AF for video and being so cheap's got me sold.
Might be late, but i found it really spot on!

This is how I feel when I see everyone I know(except my Uncle) who has a nice camera.
edit: I'm referring to people who live in my area, and a lot of tourists. That sounded very broad.
So the new Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM pancake is for pre-order in the USA for 199 USD.
What do people in Europe get to pay for it: 279 Euro (~350USD).
Wow, what a fair price strategy Canon...

Lumix GF1.
Very capable, easy to use and has a lot of room to expand into as you get better.
Bruce Percy uses one and he adores it.
Also got interchangeable lenses, which is nifty.

Hey guys, if I can sell my Z990 for $200USD, I'll have around $500 to spend on a DSLR. Which one should I get? I'm looking at the D3100, but am hoping for either finding a 550D or D5100. I like the option of external microphone, but it isn't the end of the world if it doesn't have one.
Also, where should I sell my current camera?

Wait for the 3200.
How long will it take for those to hit the $500 mark?

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or don't know that the newly announced T4i/650D has video AF. Also, Canon will probably introduce the same thing in the 70D and maybe 7D MkII.
Also, quick question, do you think that video AF is a gimmick or just part of the evolution of DSLRs?
